I hadn’t ridden this trail for 10-15 years; it has gotten cluttered with homeless camps, crowded with fast training groups crowding my lane, and aggravated with fast and slow ebikes and scooters- I’ll not ride it again.0
Beautiful, clean, well maintained, wide trail. Much of the way you have to option to be on a paved path or compact gravel. We went on a mild weathered Saturday afternoon and the trail was not busy at all. There are several intersections with lights you have to go through but it’s all very safe. Plenty of water fountains and rest break locations. Most of the trail abuts the backside of residential areas. Very little shade from sporadic trees. We felt super safe. Our GPS clocked in a little more that 18 miles (20).
I did this trail for the first time & decided to start in Downey. Heads up, if you’re not a resident of Downey they charge $5 for parking. It is a decent trail to ride. Very similar to the Los Angeles River Trail but much cleaner. I still would love to start in Azusa, ride to Seal Beach & back to complete a metric Century.
We started at Kaiser Permanente on Lakeview in Anaheim. Easy access to the trail, 19 miles to the ocean. Enter on the trail, this side of the River and head west. Cross the River at the Honda center, stay left to leave the trail and cross the street to enter the trail on the other side of the river. Follow the trail as it make a 360 turn to continue west. At the 1st wooden foot bridge, turn left to cross the bridge. Turn right as you exit the bridge. Follow the trail to the 2nd wooden foot bridge (trail on this side of the river ends, you must exit the trail), turn right to cross the bridge, as you come off the bridge turn left and continue the last 6 miles or so to the beach. You will go under the PCH, loop to the right, make a left just before getting to PCH. In about 1 block you will intersect with the Huntington Beach Trail which heads down the beach or PCH to Long Beach and beyond. Have fun

We started at Boca Chico star Park, rode down the beach trail 8 miles, then connected at this trail. We rode about about 10 miles then turned around. Clean, away from roads/traffic and not busy. I would ride this for exercise more than the scenery. We will be back to try the entire trail a
I love the path from Ruth Carruthers park south to Seal Beach. Decided to add some miles and started at Santa Fe Springs Park. Park wasn’t open at 9 as published but opened soon. I couldn’t find an access point to the trail from the park, but a short walk on Telegraph led to an entrance (thanks, neighbor!). Here’s the rub: there’s a super friendly man in a Dodgers jersey that cruises around chatting up women. It didn’t bother me south of Bellflower but the path is not as well used further north. I was glad I was riding with someone. I advise against women riding alone north of Ruth Carruthers park. Maybe he’s just a super friendly nice guy but ladies be cautious.
Nice ride, stared from riding up hill from Lancaster to Palmdale. The way back was Speeds up to 25 mph. Get to see a Joshua Trees and enjoyed the desert scenery.
My family and I are beginners and were looking for a safe and easier to ride trail to explore. This was perfect. We started at the park and went East. Though it wasn't very long, the tunnel, helicopter, and horses made it an adventure.
Used the this trail with friends to roller skate(quad) and it was a good ride! However, because of the dirt trail alongside the bike trail, there were many little pebbles and dirt debris. Also, the cement dividers are pretty deep making to feel the need to skate tense in order not to trip. Street crossing wasn’t too bad on this route, only 2 big streets with a few small streets. This route is probably not ideal for beginner skaters. I would love to come back on my bike and walking with my dog. Not too much uphill/downhill.
I took this route a couple Saturdays ago. I started in El Monte which had lots of parking and right onto the path you go. The trail was smooth and fun. You only have to cross the street in Montebello from Whittier Narrows. The trail was debris free all the way to Downey. I would take this ride again and want to continue it to Long Beach.
I caught a beautiful fall day. The trail is paved all the way. Easy ride. Good for getting in a workout. Scenery is an intercity canal system. Not much to rave about. What counts was the ability to ride!!! The riders ranged from families on bikes to road bikes getting in miles. People understood trail etiquette. If you are in the area, would recommend.
