Allegheny River Trail

Emlenton to Rockland

August, 2025 by vicki1960

While in the area, we rode the Foxburg to Parker section, we drove to nearby Emlenton and biked from there to Rockland (tunnel) and back. There is a missing link of trail between Foxburg and Emlenton that has been under development for a few years and they are getting closer but not as of yet. This entire trail section is 27.5 miles in length, flat and paved. Some rooty sections but to be expected with all the shade you will get in return. We did not ride the tunnels due to we forgot our lights. A nice day on the trail enjoying the shade and views of the Allegheny River. Trail services in Emlenton a pizza shop, ice cream shop, Dollar store and convenience store.

Allegheny River Trail

Foxburg to Parker

August, 2025 by vicki1960

Foxburg to Parker detached section is paved and 2.5 miles in length. Parking at each end. This section is very well shaded, trail conditions: a few roots sprouting up in the asphalt. Trail services in Foxburg include places to eat. Trail services in Parker which is a commute by road across the bridge, there is a place to eat. Enjoy the shade!

Allegheny River Trail

Always a great ride

Franklin to Brandon and back, always an enjoyable ride on this trail. Beautiful views of the Allegheny River. Water levels are down from last month when we had so much rain. Trail gates recently painted look great!

Brady Tunnel Open, Trail Closure at Mahoning, Great Trail

July, 2025 by vicki1960

The Brady Tunnel opened Fall 2024 following renovation. Very dark inside (due to its doors) so you need a light. Trail closure at mile marker 55 at Mahoning Creek (since April 2025) You can detour by using nearby road, road bridge and grass path to reconnect to the trail. We parked at the Redbank trailhead on Redbank Road, just past St. Marys Redbank church. This is the intersection of Redbank Tr mile 0 and the Armstrong Tr approx mile 63. Trail surface is crushed limestone. Some of it very well packed down, some of it washed away leaving nothing but packed dirt, and some of the trail is double tracked. We didn't have any trouble on our hybrids. We went South to Mahoning and turned around and up to the Brady Tunnel passing the Redbank Coaling Tower. We went though the tunnel and continued approx 5 miles through the Sarah Furnace area. We also went towards East Brady passed the Phillipston turntable. Nearest trail services are in East Brady, otherwise you're on your own. Trail mostly shaded, follows the Allegheny River. Very peaceful., scenic and historic. See photos. Our next plan is to ride another segment of the trail.

Allegheny River Trail

We biked from Emlenton northerly for just under an hour. Going through the tunnel was cool. Make sure you have a light. A little bumpy due to tree roots bulging the pavement but really enjoyed it. Follows the river. Saw deer and rabbits.

Allegheny River Trail

One of my favorite trails in this region I start the trail at the trails northern most end point, south of US 322 bridge.Along the trail there are some camp sites along the Allegheny River near the ending parking lot .The entire trail is paved but be aware of crossing wildlife and bumps along the trail surface.Depending how far you plan on riding plan accordingly pack snacks, drinks and knowledge of changing a inner tube if you get a flat tire wouldn’t hurt either. Be more AWARE of people on E Bicycles they don’t seem to pay attention to regular bicycles on the trail …Matt¿¿¿¿

Franklin to Sunnyslope and back

River flowing good since recent rains. Biked from Franklin to Sunnyslope and back, 12.5 miles each way for a 25 mile round trip. Not much shade.

Nice Trail- has some deep water holes

July, 2025 by carebare552

This trail goes through state game lands, is mostly shady and parallels an active railway. The active railway portion has some deep mudholes. It would be wise to start at Ridgeway as it is uphill to Brockway.

A shady path for a heat intensive day!

Knox & Kane Rail Trail

Started at Kane. The trail was unmaintained after mile 4.7. I then went to the Kinzua bridge state park and rode to 219. A nice trail

Trail closed north of Templeton

July, 2025 by tedb

Surprised to find the closure over the Mahoning Creek just north of Templeton. Looks like it has been that way for a while despite a recent review not mentioning it. No detour posted.
