Rollerskated this entire trail. The first mile was amazing asphalt quality. It’s gets a little rough, but never intolerable. Lots of amazing views and great nature. Saw iguanas & manatees by the fishing pier at the end. Just a few intersections but they aren’t too busy. A couple clean facilities along the trail with restrooms & water fountains. Very neat trail and would recommend!
We just finished about 14 miles (round trip) yesterday. We really enjoyed it even though we encountered a little rain. Trail is straight, smooth, and well kept. We also rode the Boca Grande, not a fan! If you want a nice ride, ride the Cape Haze.
We rode this trail yesterday, and really enjoyed it, there really isn’t any place to park at the beginning of trail on the north side. You really have to go to the southern end of the island and use one of the parking areas there. It worked out fine though as it allowed us to also stop over to the beach when we were done. Much of the trail runs through the center of the island and it is nice because it doesn’t immediately border the road. However, it is pretty heavy with golf cart traffic so you have to watch out for the. We saw many Iguanas and a couple of turtles. We also took a little side trip out to a fishing pier where there was an old railroad and lots of people were fishing and then we also took a side trip through one of the neighborhoods at the very north end of the island where there are some very beautiful andexpensive homes.
I travel the Florida rail-trails as a distance skater (I do quad & in-line). This trail is gorgeous ! Saw a bobcat on my way down to Venice. Started in downtown Sarasota and went the entire route to Venice’s Depot. Venice Depot is gorgeous …you cross over some water but it is amazing. Great trail surface. Beautiful scenery. Little elevation gain except two bridges near the Venice end. 10/10 recommend especially for fellow skaters

Beautiful southern end along the marsh. Well kept throughout with nice covered seating areas. The trail end wasn't clearly marked.
Nice peaceful ride to unwind after work ¿¿ very clean a couple benches along the way to stop ¿ and check your messages from my wife? Are you going to be home soon ¿¿¿
It is with very mixed feelings that I am leaving a negative review. We have been riding the Legacy Trail for 3 years, every April. In that time the danger has increased with the greater presence of fat tire ebikes ridden at top speed with no concern for safety or courtesy. The riders are using their ebike as a motorcycle and riding with no assist whatsoever at top speed. Many of the bikes are so quiet that they are upon a regular cyclist or walker/runner before you know it. There is NEVER a call out or signal with a bell or slowing . The lack of respect for other trail users is appalling as well as a huge safety issue. At the suggestion of a Legacy Trail maintenance person I have also written the Legacy Trail directors asking for them to look into this issue. I hope others will express their desire for implementation of the safety rules posted along the trail.
Beautiful relaxing ride along Charlotte Harbor
This is one of my favorite places to walk. Has a connection to the park which I love. There is also an outlet near the zoo.
Just did a ride down/up the trail, and happy to say the trail is open and asphalt in decent shape. I would guess that it took weeks and weeks to clear the trail of trees and debris after Hurricane Ian. You can still see stain tracks where trees were dragged away from the trail after being chain-sawed. Scores and scores of trees were snapped and cut. We saw several turtles along the way and another rider reported an ‘enormous’ gator down by the golf course on the south end. The chain link fence along the golf course got wiped-out too. They have installed a wrought iron fence in its place. They had to cut the beautiful honey-suckle vines that grew on the old fence. Come April, the fragrance was wonderful Hopefully, it will grow back. The restaurant at the south end of the trail fared very well and has been fully open for business for quite some time.
