Cypress Creek Greenway

Borderline Boring

January, 2019 by rwjoslyn

I enjoyed riding on the trail despite having to cross busy roads. There are pedestrian cross walks, though, and for the most part the motorists yielded to the bikers and walkers as they should.

I did find the trail rather boring as far as the scenery. And what can we say about those unkempt backyards full of debris/trash? But as far as the actual concrete trail goes, I found it to be very accommodating to both cyclists and pedestrians.

I would ride the trail again!

Black Creek Trail (Miami-Dade)

Good ride at the start but turned back early

January, 2019 by melody.n.wright

My boyfriend and I went out today and really enjoyed the first several miles. We spotted over 60 iguanas and tons of ducks and really enjoyed the ride. After about 5 miles though, trash starts becoming more and more prevalent, and the neighborhood starts getting worse. At one point the water was completely covered with sludge and trash. I think we’d do the nicer half again, but I don’t think this will be one that we use for a through ride.

Disappointed, went today with my daughter (in a wheelchair) to check on the trail because is not far from home, There’s construction in the Turnpike and there are machines in the trail, there’s some construcción in the street also and made difficult finding a spot to park. Hope this will get better in the near future

Noisy, dirty, little greenery, and downright dangerous

Palmetto Park Road Path

construction alert

Beautiful urban trail but currently lots of construction along the path at the I-95 junction and west of Military almost all the way to 441.

We wanted to take this trail at its northest point near Indian Beach Park, just north of 41st street and go southward. Not possible. Bikes are not allowed on the boardwalk. Large signs posted by the city of Miami Beach. We had to turn around.

Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail

Not For The Faint of Heart

November, 2018 by kmwhitta

With winter approaching and freezing temperatures at home it seemed like the ideal time to cycle the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. This 106.5 mile Rail-Trail offers a scenic tropical bicycling adventure without leaving the continental United States.

The trail runs on Henry Flagler’s old railroad from mile marker 106 in Key Largo to mile marker 0 in Key West, Florida parallel to US Route 1. While more than 75 miles of the rail-trail were paved, several large sections of the trail and bridges were recently damaged by hurricane Irma. Unfortunately, much of the damage has not been repaired yet. As a result, cyclists are forced on to the roadway on bike lanes or narrow shoulders with the usual road debris and hazards. I did experience a flat.

So, riders beware! Although this trail is classified as a rail trail, it is not for the faint of heart when it comes to riding on the road. Expect a lot of road cycling on a busy highway with cars and large trucks speeding by alongside of you. In addition, the trail continually changes from side to side along US Route 1 forcing cyclists to cross the highway.

Cypress Creek Greenway

Connecting Greenways?

November, 2018 by drjanajaffe

We took the trail at Markham Park (Sawgrass) yesterday to Hiatus and was hoping t pick up Plantation to Cypress Greenway. However, we need to turn around as the sun was beginning to set and didn’t want to ride in the dark. We live right near Fern Forest (Cypress Greenway). We are hoping to take Cypress Greenway to Plantation/Hiatus Greenway and then to New River Greenway. Hoping that works for a great ride that we plan to do often. I’ll revise and let you know.

M-Path Trail

not that bad

Good for exercise or commute / use the train. Not for “family fun”

El Rio Trail

Trail is complete

July, 2018 by rlautar_tl

All the sections of the trail are completed, the new section under Yamato Road is really nicely done and it makes the whole experience so much safer. I used to ride only the South half of the trail because of the busy Yamato Road crossing but now I see lots of people taking advantage of the full trail, including families with young riders. I like to ride El Rio when I don't want to deal with auto traffic and now I can enjoy a longer ride.

Nice Trail

July, 2018 by sequirah

For a city trail, this one is pretty good. I rode it on 7/22/18 .At first the scenery is just so-so but after the crossing at Oakland Park Blvd. it improves a lot. Very clean, with trees along the way if you need a break from the sun. Lots of large iguanas along the canal on the left going south, and there's no shortage of ducks. Some upscale homes to see on the right. The pavement is very smooth, very tight seams... you don't feel them at all. This is Florida, flat as a pancake... you won't get beautiful mountain scenery or anything like that, so my rating takes into consideration that this is a trail running through populated areas. The trail was not very heavily trafficked though. Very nice, all things considered.

Nicely paved path, parallel to a canal with decent view.
