I have not been on trail since 2014. It is still perfect from the 2014 resurfacing of new asphalt. I went from KCC circled around college down through CO Brown Stadium down along Wagner Drive which has had a lot work done, great breeze off the river, and waterfall, new Kayak launch area , new fishing pier, picnic tables, passed several port a johns, etc all the way downtown, circle around Under Ground Railroad and Dr. Kellogg’s house.

William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail State Park

Enjoyable trip

July, 2018 by gatorcritter

I rode the portion of the trail between Hart and Rothbury. It is a very pretty trail with a lot of variety. There are a lot of forested/shady sections north of Shelby. Further south the trail opens up some. There are many options for food in the small towns along the trail. Taqueria El Paisano in Shelby has very good and authentic Mexican fare. The surface was in very good shape. I wish the signage for finding the trailheads was better. There was nothing on M-20 or in Shelby telling where to find parking for the trail.

Nice Paved Trail

Good, flat riding. Lots of tree cover & shade. We started out at Hart and went to Shelby & bike. Good info on POI in Hart at the N trailhead.

Fred Meijer Flat River Valley Rail Trail

Rough

July, 2018 by central_pa_chris

I was riding from Alma to Greenville (FM Heartland), Greenville to Lowell (FM Flat River), Lowell to Ionia (FM Grand River), Ionia to Fowler (FM Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee), then roads back to Alma.

On the FM Flat River segment I made it about 5 miles from Greenville, almost to Belding, before bailing and using roads to cut over to Ionia and skipping the Grand River segment.

FM Flat River between Greenville and Belding is not recommended or fun on any bike I can think of, due to occasional pockets of deep loose basalt that cause tires to dig in and fishtail/skid suddenly. Anti-truck and ATV barriers are missing and surface has loose areas from vehicle traffic. As of 7/3/18 the cover photo blocking tree is still across the trail too, though enough branches are trimmed off to climb through with a bike.

Disappointing as I wanted to do the whole loop, but the potential for this to be epic in the future is high.

Plaster Creek Trail

Surprised

July, 2018 by joshuaodekirk

I found the trail just wandering around my mom's neighborhood. There is a nice, flat concrete path that is shaded and quiet. What's really cool though are the many dirt/sand trails that snake through the forest, mostly next to the creek. There must be a few miles, bc I haven't seen all of them yet.

Musketawa Trail

Nice, if a bit boring

June, 2018 by jckazoo

We did this very quiet trail yesterday from Marne to Ravenna and back, for a total of 26 miles. As a previous reviewer noted, it is in need of resurfacing, but we didn't find it to be that terrible. Granted, we only average about 10 mph - a road biker might be more sensitive to the buckling and pitting in places. Ravenna has little to nothing to offer; we went to the Dollar General and got Gatorades, but then discovered a grocery store, so we'll hit that next time. We stopped in Conklin on the way back and went to the Conklin Bar - looks like a dive, but what a friendly place! Had a really nice time talking with the locals. Try their local cider, "Pux". Overall a very nice day - looking forward to autumn when the scenery is at its best.

Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail

Connections

June, 2018 by joe maitner

Biked the Muskegon Lakeside trail....now connected to the Berry Junction Trail...a total of 30 miles. The connecting portion north of Muskegon was not officially opened (as of 6/25/18) as we found out from two trail construction workers who chided us lightly and cautioned us "the trail is not officially opened, but would be later this week." Great trail if taken all the way from Muskegon to Whitehall. In fact once in Whitehall you can continue on to Hart-Montague trail. Trail has it all, city, seashore, forest, curves, slight hills and nice paved surface.

Kal-Haven Trail Sesquicentennial State Park

Please pave!

June, 2018 by jckazoo

This is the closest trail to my home, but as I much prefer paved trails, I find myself driving an hour north to the White Pine and Musketawa trails, south to the Pumpkinvine, and east to Falling Waters. The Kal-Haven is a chore, but would be wonderful if paved.

Musketawa Trail

New Asphalt Needed Now

June, 2018 by tdnoe

As of June 2018, the trail's asphalt surface has become a minefield of cracks, potholes and sunken areas. I would recommend avoiding this aging and poorly maintained trail unless you have full suspension or fat tires.

Fred Meijer M-6 Trail

Its For The Birds!

June, 2018 by mffam

I really liked this trail. Very few people around. No dogs chasing after me. No kids. Can keep a high rate of speed throughout.Good hills for a little workout. However their was a bird who must be protecting a nest because it kept on dive bombing me. It did not hurt. It was persistent but I moved my arm above my head and would swat it away. Finally I was out of its perceived danger zone and it went on its way.

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

Beautiful and easy

June, 2018 by Pamelag

This asphalt trail is extremely well-maintained. We started in Alma and rode to Vestaburg and back (28 miles round trip). The scenery is gorgeous. There are no hills, a few roads to cross making this a very easy-going ride.

Paving is happening?

June, 2018 by stevej371

Trail is being graded and worked on north of Reed City.
I sure hope they are planning on paving it.

Meanwhile, the parking at Paris Park is no longer free for trail users.
Pulled in today and the Ranger stated the fee is $6 minimum for using the trail....the lot had no cars in it.
Ranger suggested another parking spot just north of Paris 1/4 mile.
Small lot...would work but the entry to the trail was gated and locked.
