Four Freedoms Trail

Bucolic Charmer

May, 2018 by k1ce

The trail begins in the gorgeous old town of Madison and courses north to the Withlacoochee River and the Georgia border. This is a trail to go slow on and savor every rolling hill, farm, stands of trees, a tiny town that time has passed by; in other words, a journey into the agricultural, rural past of the country. I loved this trail; there wasn’t another soul on it for the 24 miles round trip.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Palatka- Lake Butler

April, 2018 by nkstravelfl

The trail was fantastic! Parked at Twin Lake Road and headed toward Palatka. Some minimal debri but smooth cycling with plenty of wild life. I’m really looking forward to the trail being complete so I can cycle safely to St Augustine. April 20, 2018

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

Always worth the trip

April, 2018 by bikechopper

We have rode this trail many times but not lately. It is an 82 mile drive from our home. It is still worth the drive, You always have the feel of the old rail line as the trail sits atop a tram bed with the ditch on both sides, it reminds you of the work that went into building all our railroads. Bugs were only bad if you stopped for a long time. It was Easter Sunday and it was well used but not crowded, We saw two rattlesnakes and many birds. The description on the page says there is plenty of restaurants and stores at both ends, this is not true. In fact there is none. The construction of the US 301 bypass by Baldwin does not really affect your ride. If you are in North Florida this trail is always a good trip,

Four Freedoms Trail

Home trail

March, 2018 by bikechopper

We have completed many trails around the country and would not rate this as one worth a long trip just to ride it. However this is located in our home county and has been a pleasant break from riding on our country roads, Yes it has root heaves so if you come into town to speed on a road bike you will be disappointed. To us local riders the only disappointment is that more people in our community don't get off their butts and ride it. We always remove branches along the way. The north end should have signage because the pavement comes to an end with no view of the river, but if you walk your bike down to the left in about 50 feet you have a covered picnic area and a view of the Withlachoochee and the remains of the old railroad trestle. It is a shame if you ride to the end of the pavement and miss this,

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Very nice Trail but beware of vandals

March, 2018 by mschmidt55

Rode this trail yesterday, end to end. A great trail but... when I returned to my car at the Roberts Lane parking lot I discovered my car window shattered. Nothing was stolen, just pure vandalism. Park somewhere else.

Nature Coast State Trail

Lovely Trail

March, 2018 by lmscott65

I recently rode my bicycle on the part of the trail from Cross City to just past Old Town where the bridge across the Suwannee River is. It is a wonderful ride... an easy, scenic ride. Can't wait to do it again and ride on even more of the trail.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Great Ride

March, 2018 by powerfade

My buddy and I road the full length and back (40 miles) this month, 3/2018. Due to the length of this trail the number of bikers/walkers were spread out so was not at all croweded. The flooded area mentioned by previous review has subsided and is not an issue. We would love to see a timeline on when the east trailhead to Palatka portion will be completed. It appears work is in full swing and even on Saturday the crew was working. This is a great trail with only a few road crossings except for in Keystone Heights.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

18 years old and still awesome.

February, 2018 by jbrownphd

Much to my surprise, the Baldwin trail appears to be about 18 years old now. Not only has it been well kept up, they have continued to add amenities, such as bike pumps at Halsema and the Baldwin train station.
I've been frightened twice, once by a young steer that got lose near Halsema Rd. and was threatening random riders, and then once inadvertently riding over a 6 foot rattler.
Other than that - it continues to be an awesome bike trail. My best time from trailhead and back was 1 hour, 37 minutes and 38 seconds. I was much young [ and thinner ] then.

Ichetucknee to O'Leno Trail

Nice Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

We did enjoy the trail. We would not recommend it for road bikes. We could see that it might be a hot ride during the hot and humid summer months, but it was fine when we rode it (January). We didn't notice any real bad places in the pavement, but maybe a few "rough" spots. We would recommend riding into the Ichetucknee Park and riding to the river. There are also restrooms and a small store there.

Nature Coast State Trail

Great Scenic Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

We really enjoyed this trail! We took two days to complete the trail, there and back. Fanning Springs is a great place to base your ride. The trail to Chiefland is more covered by trees and might be a cooler ride during hotter weather or during the hotter part of the day. The trail to Trenton is more open to the sun, especially during the afternoon. The trail to Cross City is covered by trees for about half and some open the other half. We really enjoyed all sections of the trail. We also would highly recommend the Lighthouse Restaurant in Fanning Springs and the Taste of Dixie Diner in Cross City.

Suwannee River Greenway at Branford

Nice, but could be better maintained in places.

January, 2018 by dmckee622

This trail is rated 4 stars, but just barely. The northern section is very nice, but had some limbs and such on the trail. The eastern section has lots of rough spots and holes in the pavement, especially east of where US 129 crosses the trail. We rode recumbent trikes and it was hard not to hit the bad spots. This would not be a good trail for road bikes. Overall we did enjoy the trail.

Gainesville-Hawthorne State Park Trail

Great Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

This is a very nice trail. From the Gainesville side, it starts off a little hilly, but settles down after about 2 1/2 miles. The trail is very well maintained and nearly all has a nice canopy of trees. You have the impression of being in a nice forest. Even the portion that runs alongside the road, has trees between the road and the trail to give you the impression that you are surrounded by woods. Would highly recommend this trail to everyone!
