Nature Coast State Trail

Start in Fanning Springs

December, 2020 by rdavies

As others suggested, we started in the middle and went down each direction until it went by busy highways. Stay in the cabins in Fanning Springs cabins if you can- really cute.

Ichetucknee to O'Leno Trail

Easy ride for cruising bikes

December, 2020 by terry117

Easy parking just north of the O'Leno entrance. The trail is alongside a county road with a few rolling hills through the Florida countryside. We found the trail easy to ride but there are a lot of root bumps and a few sandy areas and broken glass from broken beer bottles, and because of that, I would not recommend riding a road/race bike on the trail. My wife rode her E-trail bike and I rode my gravel bike which were perfect for this trail. For the gravel bikers, there is a lot of nice dirt and gravel roads to explore. We will ride it again and explore Ichetucknee State Park.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

Easy & carefree

Pro flat, shaded, not too many road crossings, well maintained. Con Not a lot of scenery, isolated, no food or drinks anywhere around.

Nature Coast State Trail

quiet mid week, shady

November, 2020 by dlonzo

We rode in Oct 2020 with only 1 encounter with another rider. 75% of the trail was shaded. The trestle over the Suwannee River was pretty but the surface is rough. We tent camped in the Otter Springs RV park with an easy 2.4 mile ride to the trailhead along a road with little traffic.

Nature Coast State Trail

Election Day getaway

November, 2020 by rrahrig007

Started at Fanning Springs, rode to Old Town, turned around went to Trenton, and back to Fanning Springs. There are no restrooms at any of these 3 trailheads. Rail trail is flat and fast. Very little scenery. Some canopy but not full shade. Overall an OK trail.

Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail

Perfect luck for a late Oct ride

October, 2020 by wallbaumt

Weather was unusually perfect at 70F for our ride, a small cool window. I could imagine the cooling of the forest canopies on much hotter days. Trail was exactly as described and suited me and my wife very well. I think we had more Fall debris on the road than expected. Four stars from us. Started at trailhead Twin Lakes and headed both ways eventually to put on the miles.

Extremely peaceful; despite the many people enjoying the trail.

Nature Coast State Trail

Nice Rural Out and Back

September, 2020 by vickitaylor1

We parked in Old Towne which had parking along the trail— some of our group parked at the Subway/Hardees/Marathon a block away with rest rooms. By starting in middle, we did one option towards Trenton which was over the Swanee and then we went towards Cross City which had a few restaurant choices (Dairy Queen, Carriage House Best of Dixie Diner) for lunch in the opposite direction. OK rural trail—not quite as scenic as Reem Wilson or Courtney Campbell.

Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail

Keystone - Palatka - great trail

September, 2020 by jimbocollins3

Great trail, we started from Twin Lakes parking area in Lake Geneva. Bathroom and lots of parking. Excellent surface, half shaded. We went the 20 miles east to end of trail (the mile markers are incorrect at this point, the trail ends at the "6" mile marker, eventually it will go into Palatka - hopefully). Presently you would have to jump on the highway (100) to go into Palatka. We rode back through Keystone to the end of the trail a few miles the other side of Keystone Heights. Did not find the Hometown Restaurant, but a nice lunch at Clydes (only open until 2 pm).
