Lake Jackson Trail

Lake Jackson Trail

March, 2018 by careh63

You can park at Veteran's Park. This trail is a nice 10 mile ride, however, I will say that it is definitely all sidewalk. If you are planning on riding your "road bike" ...don't !! If you do, you can ride in the road for part of it but the roads are very busy and then there is about 3 miles of the trail running along Hwy 27 which is very noisy & not enjoyable. Because of this, I took my bike with hybrid tires instead. No clip in pedals because there is too much stopping/starting. On Hwy 27, cars are wizzing past. Definitely no way to ride your road bike on roadway there. The sidewalks are at times, uneven and blocked with tree trimmings, etc....There are many driveways and cross streets to watch for. Pay close attention here for moving vehicles. I was able to follow the trail just fine around the lake but there are no markers to keep you on track. Just follow the lake. I made two rounds in about 1.5 hrs.

Too short. Too ugly. Too bad, it could be better if it connected to something else.

Auburndale TECO Trail

Connects to General James Van Fleet

July, 2017 by brianleesawyer

I rated this as a 4 only because it connects to the Van Fleet trail. It in itself is nothing special but the fact that it connects makes the total length 35 miles. So if you're ready for Straight flat ride of 70 miles that is nice with about 40% shade this is a great ride. Bring lots of water. The trail end has awful water and it's a long way back to the water supply. The trailhead here is also safer than the Van Fleet trailhead in Polk city.

Fort Fraser Trail

My Home Trail

July, 2017 by brianleesawyer

I ride this trail 3-5 times a wk. Starting at the north end: the N trailhead is next to a sheriffs office so it is a little safer. No RR or water there. 1 mile into ride there's acovered bridge. .5 Mi. to spur to a nature preserve (Circle B Bar) The spur is nice for wildlife. One can continue into the reserve with mt bike for terrain. I just ride the .5 spur and then back. After 2.5 miles total there is a trail head (highlands city). RR and water. Across street is Bike shop. The trail goes another 3 mi. to another spur. This one is 2 mi. Then 2 more mi. to Bartow, fl. To trail head Another covered bridge. After bridge is major highway with no easy way to cross and only 100 feet of trail on across hwy. I'd stop at bridge. Good ride. 3.5 stars!

Enjoyable trail

Flat, slightly scenic, quiet. Rode from Myrtle Park to Vanfleet trailhead and back. About 13 miles round trip. Enjoyable ride.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

Stress the word "lost"

February, 2017 by dhotmire

There is no trail, where there once was a nice one. Years ago I traversed it successfully, but today only a few miles of it are open. Sections were to be worked in a bit at a time, originally. However, when a new section has begun construction other sections are not re-opened. 30 mile sections are shut down for two miles worth of construction. By the time the construction is finished most of us will not be around to enjoy the trail. I'm sure we will all be safer as a result of today's version of messing with nature to "improve" nature is complete. According to projections, the dike will be complete and reopened when sea level has risen above it.

Fort Fraser Trail

Fist time on the trail.

October, 2016 by Dnickell727

Yesterday was my first time riding on the Fort Fraser Trail. I must say besides the strong winds, it was an enjoyable ride. Going north there are some slight elevation changes, but nothing too difficult for a beginner. At the halfway point of the trail there is a restroom, water fountains, and adequate amount of parking. Overall I gave the trail a 4 out of 5 because it is very user friendly. However, I would like to see more water fountains added and it being expanded eventually.

Getting Outdoors

Has a fun adventure with my fiance and puppy this morning on Auburndale Trail. It was our first time checking out the trail. The scenery was beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed how shaded the trail was with trees. We will definitely be going back!

Agree with Puckett

We booked in at an rv park last winter near Moore Haven because of the Lake Okeechobbe trail. After much disappointment with all the closures and construction I wished we would have gone elsewhere. The most frustrating part was the signs that said trail was open when it wasn't and there are no proper maps to guide you through the maze of closures. I'm glad the rv park was nice. We were near Webster, Fl last year there were many more nicer trails close by and much safer back roads to travel.

A Nice Hidden Gem

June, 2016 by carolyng

I happened by this little gem while biking on Rt 33 It starts on 33 and University Blvd. I immediately investigated and was pleasantly surprised on how clean and scenic it is and the road is normally quiet compared to the surrounding ones. Best of all, it's two miles from my house so I can bike there.

I normally ride the Van Fleet or Withlacochee on the weekends but this may be a great find for quick weekday evening ride after work.

Fun family time

May, 2016 by sieshawright

Thank you so much TrailLink for providing the different bike trails in the area. I have visited Auburndale numerous of times and had no idea about this trail. The kids (6 & 10) and I went 2.5 miles down this trail on bikes and roller blades. The trail is smooth and clean! The scenery and atmosphere was wonderful too!! We can't wait to go back for riding and skating very soon. This is our new spot!
