Okeechobee Trail wasNice Enough for Skates,Needs Porta Potties ...Bathroom has No Light,and NO Toilet Seat.SHAMEFUL.
Really nice ride from Moore Haven to Lake Harbor but you’re riding on top of an elevated dike so the winds are pretty strong. Also, you don’t see the lake until you almost get to Lake Harbor. That was a little disappointing. Tiki Bar and Grill in Clewiston a great place to stop for lunch
We parked on the north side of the Port Myaca dam and biked seven miles traveling north on the ridge of Lake Okeechobee. Then, we biked back. It was a wonderful ride on the paved trail. We saw one alligator, three racoons, caterpillars, birds and a beautiful view. We loved it and look forward to biking there again soon!
We were surprised to find no designated parking at either trailhead ends. We did discover a nice area at the Polk State College trailhead in Lakeland with picnic table. The trail was nicely paved except for a couple spots. Not very scenic but a decent ride.
This is a short city trail ride but well maintained. There are sections of it which are quite pretty. There are amenities along the way, and with a Dunkin Donuts, 7-11, and a Diner at the trail end.
This trail is a sidewalk around the island. It’s really about 10.3 miles according to my tracking. It’s scenic at points but also cuts through neighborhoods which is fine but eh. Super easy to do on in-line skates. Probably wouldn’t do it again
This is a very nice urban bicycle trail. The riding surface when we rode in January 2024 was excellent. We included the short spur trail, about 7/10 of a mile - following the sign for same - that is fairly close to the trail end on the Lakeland side, and about 85% of the way to the end from the Bartow side.
This was a fun ride, great riding surface and very well maintained. Thank you, local governments and Florida state government for providing this trail! The reason we gave it four stars instead of five is only because, as an urban trail, there are quite a few road crossings as well as a fairly busy highway in clear view of the trail for 70% to 80% of its length. The GOOD NEWS is that is usually about 30-40 feet or more of buffer (grass) between the bicycle trail and the highway.
We parked at Alvin Ward Park in Moore Haven. The trail is attached to the parking area. The park has a good parking lot with bathrooms and boat ramp. The trail is a nice flat asphalt on top of the dike. We saw a lot of wildlife on our ride including alligators, armadillos, quail, blue herons, 3 bobcats, seagulls, hawk, ducks and buzzards. We rode almost 12 miles to Clewiston Picnic Area at Herbert Hoover Dike and then turned around and return back to Moore Haven. The Clewiston picnic area has picnic tables along the water. I did not see any bathrooms December 2023
Thru the worst parts of town. Room for improvement. I wouldn’t walk it after dark.
We live in Florida and have driven Hwy 98 for many years, always saying that we should ride this trail. Today was the day. We parked at the sheriffs station as someone had suggested. The trail is a very nice paved path for a very comfortable ride and well taken care of. Lots of shade and a chance to see the area at a slow pace. Lunch at Culver’s after our ride. A beautiful day.
