This was a nice 27.5 mile ride along the Allegheny River. The section that reverses N Kent road through the small subdivision of homes makes it interesting. Unchanging terrain becomes boring after a while. We enjoyed the historical markers which provide a better understanding of the area. It is a shame vandals live amongst us and are driven to destroy things like Indian God Rock. The northern section is very nice. The section south of the Woodland tunnel is a bit bumpy, but still better than other trails out there. The southern section could stand a little trimming of bushes etc. Toilets at both ends were atrocious.
Love using this trail when I wan to ride from Youngstown to Warren. So peaceful, quiet and safe to use.
September, 2026. Nice end of the Summer bike ride. Parked at Oakfield, biked to Orwell for lunch, then a little North and back plus to Bristolville. Most of the trail well shaded and beyond that farmlands. Open areas of the trail very windy. There are some drainage / speed bumps between Oakfield and Bristol heading South.
September, 2026. End of the month bike ride on a nice sunny day. Trail is just a few miles long but a nice place to ride instead of roads. Sharpsville end is well shaded and the Northern end is more open. Some of the pavement is starting to become bumpy.
September, 2026. We ride this trail a few times a year, try to hit it every season. End of Summer ride. On a hot sunny day this trail provides plenty of shade. Paved trail encircles Lake Wilhelm within the park on rolling Pennsylvania terrain. Lots of wildlife and bird watching at this State Park. One short section of the bike trail is along the causeway within the park. The causeway goes through the park and not much traffic. Maurice K. Goddard State Park offers boating, fishing, and picnic areas.
Nice trail. Mostly shaded. A little narrow for bikes but not bad. Smooth and well maintained. You have to cut through Quail Hollow to get to the other part of the trail.
September, 2026. We subjected ourselves to our annual ride on this bumpy section of the trail. Parked in Emlenton and made it 7 miles to just North of the Rockland tunnel. It's gotten worse since last year. More roots have pushed up the asphalt pavement. Bump after bump after bump then smooth for a very short distance, then more bumps. And it repeats itself over and over. Doesn't appear the grass along side of the trail had been mowed in a while, had to be a foot tall. Rockland Tunnel is lengthy, you need a light. The doors at the South entrance were installed a few years ago since the tunnel leaks and it would freeze in there and long dangerous icicles would form. Even in the Summer there's a trickling of water. This summer was very rainy so there's gonna be a leaky ceiling in there! On the plus side, the trail offers beautiful scenery, and views of the Allegheny River and plenty of shade.
Very nice trail, only downside is to complete the loop you have to ride from the parking area to the Marina on a roadway.
Parked at the trailhead parking lot in Emlenton. You must drive down the bike trail about 500 feet and parking is on the right. The actual trail starts at Main Street and 8th Street at the Post Office Parking lot but trail parking is down the trail a bit. We rode 11 miles out and 11 miles back and I would say that 10 of the 11 miles are very bumpy. I ride an all steel Surly with 29x2 tires and this ride was rough. I would not recommend riding this part of the trail on a road bike with narrow tires. Although it was early September a lot a leaves covered the trail so seeing bumps and root-heaves was impossible, even going less than 10mph. Two downed trees were across the trail but easily rode around them. On a positive note, the trail is easy to find, there is ample parking, the trail is flat and very scenic as it parallels the Allegheny River the entire time. There are many nice private properties along the way and some benches occasionally, but those could be private as well. There were two porta-john toilets at the trailhead parking lot. Had the trail been smooth it would have been a great ride but this was one that I was glad when it was done. Oh yeah, the tunnel, about 4 miles from trailhead, is long and dark and at the very beginning, had a lot of water coming in from the ceiling, even though it was a very sunny day. Make sure to take a light with you. We only encountered one tunnel in the first 11 miles but there are more further on.
It's been a few months so we thought we'd bike ride the Foxburg to Parker section of the trail. This section is 2.5 miles in length and detached from the remainder of the trail. Since our last visit the roots pushing up the asphalt pavement have really increased and it was a lot worse than our last ride. It was mostly a rough ride.
September, 2026. Labor Day weekend ride. Beautiful holiday weekend out on the trail. Always enjoyable ride on this trail. We rode from end to end and extra. Trail does not go through Andover town but follow the signs and take the streets. There are a few places to eat nearby.
