It's a nice little trail, or could be, but it's obvious that the town has just let it deteriorate - Watch out for broken down edges, and bad root heaves.
The bridge at the Sam Atkins park (north end) is permanently barricaded, and looks like it's been like that for a couple of years.
If you want to ride the trail, start at the Neal Landing (south) end, at the riverside park, and ride north a couple miles, to dead end at the closed bridge.
At this point, I think the trail is mostly just used by locals, as a shortcut through town.
I really enjoyed this trail. Lots of different entry points and nice wide trail. A few streets to cross but they are spaced out. Will be riding here more
Our first trail rode. Well designed path. Will ride again.
About a mile of sidewalk in Panacea. Trail proper picks up again at intersection with Division St (south bound), where there is "casual" parking across the street.
We really enjoyed riding this trail. Long spaces of curvy trail. I was confused in Panacea, FL, since there were several road crossings. Not much for shade. Plenty of gas stations on the route & a rest area when it intersects with St. Marks trail.
My wife has limited use of her left side but enjoys riding her e-trike. We stayed in Panama City Beach for 10 days and this was our go to trail to ride.
We parked at Frank Brown Recreation Complex with easy access to the trail. The surface is very smooth and well maintained. We would ride south to the colony, taking the side trail and two other paved paths that went along the highway. Traffic at the crossings was very courteous and stopped to let us cross each time. We could get nearly 10 miles in without retracing our side trails this way.
On one occasion we did ride to the other park, crossing the busy highway at the light. A note of caution however, I guided her trike halfway across the road before letting her go under her own power. I did not realize there was a sharp left turn on the other side. Just as she needed to make that turn, her e-trike surged, and she nearly lost control. She could have ended up going down an embankment and into the water. Thankfully she did not.
We sure appreciated the effort put into developing these trails. Although not crowded, lots of people were enjoying them.
This entire trail is about 6-7 miles. Completely gone to crap. Not maintained at all. The town takes great care of their little parks but the bike trail is garbage. Sides are collapsing and many heaves. Many crossing where you can get run over by people running the stop signs. On a special day you may find huge hogs standing you off. Bridge closed off for good. Parking is also very limited. Whoever runs this doesn’t care about it at all.
Parked at Lighthouse and went west. Instead of main road (with path), we traveled a mile or so on the road next to Blue Parrot (great grouper a sandwich and wings). Recommend visiting Nicks Hole. Great observation area. We were fortunate enough that guard opened the gate in the private community. There are paved bike trails, that go alimony the entire length thru the neighborhoods closest to the beach. We actually made it all the way down to the jetties. Lighthouse to the jetties and back was about 18 miles.
Park at Salinas Park as you come into the Cape. bathrooms, covered screened picnic tables. Easy 8-9 mile ride down to the state park. Stopped at Longbills restaurant about 7 miles down on the right next to the fire station. Blackened chicken tacos were amazing! Amazing gulf and bay views the entire ride. Less than a mile from Salinas Park, there is a trail to the right that takes you to an overview area of the bay and Black Island. Pretty awesome view around sunset.
Have to agree, not marked well. We parked at the nursing college hoping that it would not be a problem. Did enjoy our ride into town had a very nice lunch at Sisters restaurant. Would do it again
We rode the trail from Panacea at a closed shopping center all the way to St Marks trail. Nice 18 miles one way. The trail was asphalt, great shape and recently mowed edges. Wish Ga had these trails near us. Very impressed!
