Gold Hill Rail-Trail

Carol&Jack Eicher

July, 2017 by caroljeicher

We rode this trail and had a fun experience. It is not the typical rail trail. It is really 2 miles not 1 as stated in the info. I would highly recommend buying the book for $4.00 at the General Store. It has great info. We ran into the author of the book and had her autograph it for us. Gold Hill is a fascinating very old small town with captivating small shops. It is a great place to visit even if not riding/hiking the trail. I would ditto the review above that warns about the trail ending abruptly as it drops off into a ravine. That part of the trail has logs in front of the entrance as it really is not opened yet. However the explorers in us just went around them. Fortunately we were riding slowly and could stop. I assume there was a bridge there. Would be great if they could rebuild one as the trail continues on the other side.

Nantahala Bikeway

Loved it!

July, 2017 by ani.blair

This quaint ride through the forest is feet away from the Nantaha- yes the same one with rafters screaming down the rapids. Two bridges on one side where the kayaks and rafts pass under starts the trail from the Winding Stair side. I had only two complaints: there was no signage letting you know which place was correct, and if you have a road bike, beware of about 8- places where the roots have grown up into the pavement. Other than that, it was terrific- worth the drive over.

Made the trip while vacationing nearby to ride the Brevard Bike Path. Was disappointed that only 3 miles were asphalt. Also found the path along some of the roadways were littered with gravel. I had to check with a local bike shop to find where to park to start the ride. Still a nice ride.

French Broad River Greenway

Good trail but don't travel for it!

June, 2017 by marybeth3

I love this trail, I ride it almost weekly, but I also live less than a mile from it and would not travel long distances to experience it. Goes through a crowded park, there is a velodrome & river access tho and that's cool.

Shaded Ride Along the River - North Half

June, 2017 by ajw

We parked at Buffaloe Rd Park and headed north to US1. Then turned around and went south almost to I-495/Crabtree Trail. 28miles roundtrip. Trail was in good condition, and shaded most of the way. It runs along the river with lots of good scenery. Water and restrooms at Buffaloe Rd park. Tip: this is not a rail-trail, so there are lots of ups and downs, bridges and turns. Will return another day to do the southern half, Crabtree and Walnut trails. Raleigh is fortunate to have such a nice trail system.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway

Little Sugar Creek Greenway

June, 2017 by dougshaw2012

My wife and I have walked the 7th St. to Freedom Park portion of this Greenway many times (alone or with our dogs) and we love it. The scenery is great. Lots of walkers, bikers and runners on nice days. The Metropolitan is right on the route and has stores and restaurants. Alternates between sunny and shady, plenty of places to rest on benches or on the grass. Public restroom is available between The Metropolitan and Morehead St., and are clean and well maintained. We have also walked the 12th St. to Cordelia Park section of this Greenway and it is a hidden gem. Not nearly as busy as the section I reviewed above, and as such I wouldn't recommend for a woman walking or running solo. Nonetheless, we've never felt at all unsafe and it is a very pretty walk.

Little Tennessee River Greenway (Franklin)

April 2, 2017

April, 2017 by globalmarsha

The trail is mostly asphalt but there are several annoying, and potentially dangerous for cyclists, sections on of sand and gravel that could easily be paved by those in charge. A very nice restroom attached to a pavilion (up a few stairs) is not marked. Thankfully a trail walker told me about it. Lead ins to most bridges are rough with a lip too tall for bikes to tackle. Construction on the highway bridge in Franklin separates the trail making it difficult to navigate between the segments, but hopefully this will be fixed soon. marked and can easily be missed; I found it thanks to
