South End Trail Extension

October, 2019 by jtwcallahan2

I was just down at the south end of the trail a few weeks ago and it looks like there’s construction in progress to extend the trail; not sure how far but it’s great to see! This was about September 7.

Wy Hit Tuk Park (PA) to Trauger's Farm Market - 8mi

October, 2019 by strategy

This was primarily a recon mission planning for a longer ride. The trail does not disappoint, with lovely views and a lot of interesting wooden bridges (they break up trail monotony), locks, spillways and a farm market.

I initially was going to park one access north from the park. However, there is a sewage processing plant there. Need I say more? I doubled back and parked at Wy Hit Tuk.

A couple of notes about Wy Hit Tuk: You have to enter the trail by crossing a small, wooden bridge. I had forgotten about this by the time I got back and blew right by it. The landmark of I-78 crossing overhead --- which I had NOT passed under on the way in --- tipped me off that I had overshot. Also, the gates to this park are closed at sunset. Your car will be locked in, or so the sign says. So if you are heading back, set your watch. I don't know if they go by astronomical sunset or just when it gets dark. Either way, play it safe.

I'll be back to do a lot more on this trail.

Henry Hudson Trail

rpc

Been on this trail many times! Will return!
Some sections are worse than others with tree roots under the pavement, signs are not located thru Matawan, (train station, etc.) need clean bathrooms along the route.
Recommend!
Beautiful scenery. (some points you can see NY!)

Trail Closed!

September, 2019 by jtwcallahan2

This trail is currently closed for PSEG construction until June 2020! I went there on Friday Sept. 20 for the relatively short ride it affords and was met with heavy construction equipment and signs. I don’t know if they’re making trail improvements as well but they were working on the section of right of way that goes through the park. Hopefully that will now be included as part of the trail.

Awesome ride!

September, 2019 by matt218

My wife and I rode the Switchback this past weekend for the first time, and it was her first time off-road on a bike. The only part she had difficulty with was the last stretch of the downhill rock garden. This was a very fun ride, and I don’t recommend riding the whole 18 miles unless you’re in a mountain bike.

Chester Valley Trail

Fully-paved, manageable # of road crossings, but ugly ends

September, 2019 by graphitepaddle

Because of all of the rain this, have ridden this & other paved trails more than I would like. Park at either Exton Park or the trailhead off of S. Warner Rd, and you can get a 28 mile ride; the former has a restroom, while the later has a port-a-john.

Lots of shade & nice suburban neighborhoods to ride through. Ironton Trail near Coplay PA & the southern Henry Hudson Trail near Freehold NJ are also paved & shady, but they are no where near as long.

Doubt that I'll do all 28 miles in the future: a) Riding west, the rt. 100 intersection is not worth crossing --> 3 crossings, plus the trail west of it is both short & ugly (1 mile round trip). Riding east, there is 2 miles round trip east of the trailhead off of S. Warner Rd; as w. the western end of the trail, it's ugly but at least more interesting.

The # of road crossings will bother some more than others, but they don't compare to the Barnegat Branch trail & northern section of the Henry Hudson trail near the NJ shore. (NJ drivers are less likely to stop than PA drivers.) Crossing rt. 29 near Wegmans is not as obnoxious as the rt. 100 crossing, but you need to be alert.

Since I recently moved to within walking distance of a trailhead, I’ve been on the D&L at least twice a week. To mix it up, I have started my routes at different points. Should I ever return to marathon training, I’ll probably run a point-to-point and have a friend drive me home. I can’t wait to see the trail in fall, along with the foliage all around me. It is a well-kept PA treasure.

French Creek Trail

The Dog LOVED it

I thought this trail was very nice for what we needed. My dog loves to walk along the water and be able to enter often to cool off. The water was easily accessible multiple places along the trail. It was an easy walk for someone that isn't looking for tough terrain. We walked just over a mile of it (one way) from Hares Hill to Rapps Damn and back (2.25 miles total).

Barnegat Branch Trail

Nice in Forked River "but"

August, 2019 by mary.m.teel

I have an electric trike I use to shop & ride due to mobility issues & was hoping to use the trail to avoid riding on Rt 9 to get from Sunrise to Walmart. What I found was the trail not only ended Musket Rd, which I expected, but it had a guard rail with a hard to navigate narrow mount to exit the trail. That necessitated me to get off & try to push my trike up around the mound & guard rail. The rest of the trail from Lacey Rd to the guard rail was nice.
