coyote sightings

June, 2020 by jlhendricks1965

Just wanted to make people aware that the last 2 times I biked this trail I saw a coyote. Please be aware of your surroundings. The first time it bolted when it saw me but the second time it ran parallel to me for abt 40 feet. I was just abt to do a u-turn and it ran into the woods. I just want to remind everyone you are in what is left of the woods in these areas so please keep your eyes open as these animals don’t have a lot of places to go. I also saw one on the Montour Trail this year near mile marker 5 and last night there was a wounded raccoon lying in the middle of the Montour Trail near mile marker 15.

Nicely shaded walk with a gradual grade. It's well-maintained and offers beautiful views of the river. Easy walk with the stroller and our huskies had plenty of trees to sniff!

Ghost Town Trail

Felt like I was in Colorado for the first 20 miles

June, 2020 by pauldiegelman

Biked from Black Lick to Nanty Glo, then north, regained the trail, rode back west thru Rexis and completed the "lollipop" back to the start. 58 miles. Excellent trail, nice things to check out on the way, and the scenery for much of the trail feels like Colorado - spectacular !

Butler-Freeport Community Trail

Very nice trail

June, 2020 by pauldiegelman

I biked Freeport to Butler, round-trip. Very friendly people on the trail, and the trail is well-maintained. The first 14 miles toward Butler are fairly shady, scenic and verdant with wider, more "double-track" trails, the remaining 7 are less shady and a bit thinner trail bed (plenty wide though). Climbed approx 500 feet total over the first 14 miles, then descended approx 300 feet across the last 7 miles to Butler. Never really felt "like a climb" as (if I did the math) I doubt the elevation gain was ever more than 1-2%.

Rock Furnace Trail

Great trail

June, 2020 by phallenk

Nice trail. Gravel walkway without obstructions and not muddy. Easy with 2 little kids. Nice length with little ones. Plenty of places off trail to explore and wade in the water.

Montour Trail

Great first experience

June, 2020 by daringdirk1

I rode Montour Trail from mile 0.0 to 11.4 as my first Rail Trail experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The trail was in great condition with lots of interesting scenery and cool bridges and tunnels. There is a slight, but steady, uphill grade from about Mile 8-11, which I considered to be a nice challenge without being too taxing. As other note, there are some industrial sections of the trail.
