I absolutely love walking on the Pacific electric trail. I am on it several times a week.
BUT there are no restroom facilities! The only one is at the trail hub....and that's it! What are we suppose to do? Not drink water while exercise? Pee in a bush on the side of the trail? There absolutely NEEDS to be restroom facilities along the trail.
This is definitely one of my favorite trails. It’s well maintained, safe and easy to park.
The trail itself is as beautiful as ever, however, the place is infested with the homeless. I don't recommend anyone go there alone and at night. Not safe for women with children when the sun is low or gone. It's really unfortunate that the city can't really do anything about the homeless building communities alongside the trail border walls (the back of homes and businesses where all the greenery is), because of their legal human rights. Enjoy the trail, but be aware of your surrounding.
This is a great path to ride your bike fairly easy. my kids have done it from start to finish

As a lifelong resident of the Inland Empire and a Rancho Cucamonga homeowner, I've ridden this trail dozens of times over the years. It's extremely popular with locals and families for bicycling, walking, and jogging. For an urban area it has a great deal of good things going for it. There are also some not so great things.
THE GOOD: Off street, Class I trail following along the historic route of the extinct Pacific Electric Rail Line; some pretty views of the San Gabriel Mountains; historic, one hundred year old homes near downtown Upland; riding between Base Line Road in Fontana to Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga.
THE BAD: The trail is frequently intersected by major thoroughfares and other streets so there are lots of stops and starts; you're essentially riding your bike between the block walled backyards of neighborhoods for much of the time or behind businesses; going uphill between Route 66 and Base Line Road in Rancho Cucamonga (according to my wife); downtown Fontana homeless.
THE UGLY: When heading west, don't bother going beyond Euclid Avenue in Upland since for the most part there's nothing but some sketchy apartments, warehouses, and industrial complexes the rest of the way.
CONCLUSION: I've traveled thousands of miles in the United States to ride my bike on beautiful, historic, once in a lifetime, bucket list worthy trails. This ain't one of 'em. As a Rancho Cucamonga resident I was excited when they constructed this since it's great, local urban bike riding, and an opportunity for walkers to get in their ten thousand steps or joggers their miles. However, don't plan a big vacation around this one (unless you're coming to visit friends or family and you need to get a bit of exercise).
Looking through the preceding 47 reviews, a title from May of 2013 sums this trail up best: "Better Than Riding a Stationary Bike".
CONSIDER: Just west of Vineyard Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga is a connecting trail called Cucamonga Creek Trail which goes north about six miles into the foothills of Rancho Cucamonga. It's a Class I asphalt trail, and the first few miles are moderately difficult and not especially well maintained, but the last few miles travel diagonally across the foothills and are easy and well maintained as you travel through neighborhoods of million dollar homes and ranches full of horses. Eventually you get to the crown jewel park in our city, Heritage Park, where you can enjoy valley and mountain views and have a picnic lunch. (I've taken my kids when they were little and my 10 year old granddaughter in recent years up this trail). Best of all, you can coast almost all the way back to the Pacific Electric Trail!
This trail has two parallel sides. We parked at West Creek Park – a lovely park about a mile south of the northern most trailhead on the western section. This beautiful park had nice restrooms, water and plenty of parking. The trail is often lined with a white fence passing through some residential and some commercial areas. The western section is less scenic than the eastern section and passes through more commercial sections. One of the good things about the western section is that it passes a shopping center that has the best breakfast restaurant in Santa Clarita: Eggs N Things. The western section connects to the South Fork Trail and that connects to the eastern section of the San Francisquito Creek Trail so you can easily do a loop ride. The eastern section ends at the same road (Copper Hill Drive) as the western section. It is a short distance over a bridge to connect back to the western section. In between the two segments is dry river bed. The eastern section is much prettier passing through a residential area with greenery planted on the side. Going north on either section is slightly uphill, which means downhill going south! There is a separate pedestrian path and two-lane bike path. The path is smooth, well maintained and very good for running, walking, biking and rolling on anything.
This trail is one of the many beautifully maintained connected trails in Santa Clarita. It runs through basically residential areas with the dry river bed on one side. (At least it is dry in now, in February). I think this would be a more scenic trail in the summer when the trees have leaves. However, there is a certain beauty to the dry riverbed. It follows along the power lines and provides a flat, smooth surface perfect for easy biking, running and generally any kind of "rolling" be it skateboards or roller blades. There is usually a separate lane for pedestrians making it very safe for runners and walkers.
The family has taken up rollerblading and we came here for our first outing. It was a smooth ride (hard to find on skates) and the kids were delighted with the big hills on each side of the bridge that ended in nice long straightaways to allow them to safely come to a stop. We didn't make it past the bridge because they insisted on going up and down them over and over. :)
As of the date of this review, the Arroyo Seco is closed for repairs. Most of the entry gates have been chained up. I was able to get on the path and it can be dangerous to anyone riding a bike. The recent storms have caused large boulders to slide down the hill on to the path along with mud and debris. There are also pieces of concrete/steel plating missing which is a hazard. I will post again once it is open.
Overall this is a decent trail which is well maintained. I recommend that you start at the Pioneer Blvd entry point as this will provide a more enjoyable experience-the last third of this trail as you approach Mills Ave is a constant "start-stop" experience with traffic lights and crossroads. This is not the trail to use if you are looking to ride/run at a consistent pace/speed due to cross traffic....but certainly fine for a leisurely outing. A nice feature of this trail is that it's close to the San Gabriel River trail with directions on how to navigate to it from the Pioneer Blvd entry point.
The ride is pleasant and paved with few cracks. You are at the bottom of a wash with some garbage along the path.
There are many trees, and notable architecture in the bridges and homes.
Overall it is a decent outing.
