It’s been awhile since riding this trail. I like it though it’s a bit short. Some of the pavement edges are in need of repair and the wooden bridge close to the park end of the trail is closed off because of unsafe conditions. This was also noted by a rider back in February. Maybe some repairs will be done in the near future. Hope so.
Rode in February. A bit busy even during off season. Noise from traffic is constant. But the trail was safe to ride. Many people rode with beach cruisers. Lots of places to rent them.
We started skating the Sam Atkins park FL trail and after a few hundred yards bridge was closed:(No way to go further. The "temporarily closed sign" looked pretty permanent.
Bridge closed just east of the 6 mile marker. No indication when it will reopen. A fun ride with a few small hills. Cross the road a few times but there is a traffic control at each crossing. Many shops and restaurants along the path.
My husband and I ride recumbent trikes, and I was looking forward to this trail. Our plan was to go from one end to the other and back to Topsail. The park we did was not trike friendly, and about 7 miles into the ride the trail was closed, so we were forced to turn around and cut our ride short- planned on 40 and got 14. The neighbor around are interesting, but many are gated.
Nice trail along the road. No shade at all so bring sunscreen. Was hoping for a few more options for snacks along the route, cafés, sports bar, something. There was a small gas station and one small restaurant that’s it. Lots of nice homes to look at while riding. Ends at a state park.
Rode the trail yesterday. Parked at the welcome center for Gulf County but signs for the trail were poorly marked. Had to ask a couple of people before we were able to find it. Some nice portions to the trail that ran through several neighborhoods but very disjointed. An average trail at best.
This is an outstanding trail. Smooth asphalt. Signals for road crossings. Discovered the conservatory and even more trails. They are compacted gravel and not for road bike. Will be back. Ended up with 30 miles and didn’t do all branches.
My husband and I walked the trail from the rail museum to the river and back today. Very nice trail to walk. We will be back to walk the north end very soon. Such a nice use of the old track. I wish we had one in our town.
