Mahoning Shadow Trail

Some road riding

August, 2020 by dcsnyder

A few short areas that are on road but well marked. Started west at Winslow.... about 4% down so coming back, the finish was a challenge for the last 4 miles. Seems that part is not used much. Neat to go into Punxsy and see Phil. Just go off the trail for a few blocks in town. Punsxy Pizza was good.

Redbank Valley Rail Trail

Nice Trail

August, 2020 by dcsnyder

Very nice trail, we started in Brookville and went to mile 6 at the junction with the spur. Tougher ride back once you hit Hawthorn as it is a long gradual climb. It's railroad grade but very long. Neat tunnels, short but not lit so bring a strong light. In New Bethlehem there are several places to grab a bite to eat. We stopped at a Subway on the trail and it is the nicest Subway I've ever seen. Surface was good as it held up even in the pouring rain.

Rail 66 Country Trail

July 2020 Ride, Great trail, still being developed.

July, 2020 by vicki1960

Main section of the trail, from Marianne to Leeper is completed . Asphalt paved in 2018. The mid section, for a few miles, which includes Lucinda, is old tar and chipped in rough condition.
Plans to extend the trail from Leeper and to the North are in the makings. Surface is grated and rideable for the time being if you'd like to attempt it.
The trail goes though open fields of farmlands and shaded wooded areas.
Along the trail in the mid section is Chris & Reds Variety store which is neat to go into....everything from flea market items, antiques, and new merchandise. Something interesting to stop for. Also along the trail there is a farm market which is open seasonal. The train station in Lucinda has a new deck put out on the front.
In Leeper there is a restaurant / ice cream stand and a Dollar Store.
We travel over an hour to get to this trail and enjoy it every time we ride there.

Shenango Trail-July 22, 2020

July, 2020 by joseph_torok

The Shenango Trail is nearly completely weed free and brush cut. Two small sections must still be cleared. Maintenance is behind due to COVID-19 work restrictions. The southern section from Big Bend to New Hamburg, 4 miles, is the best it has ever been. The section bordering the beaver pond is still a concern. The swinging bridge bypass is clear and is regularly used by equestrians.

Redbank Valley Rail Trail

Wow....scenic & historic!

July, 2020 by vicki1960

So much to see and a great trail to experience. I can see why this was voted Pennsylvania's Trail of the Year in 2014.
Parked at the Lawsonham Road trailhead at mile 5.9. You can reach this parking lot easily it's just a few miles from Rimersburg.
Trail surface is packed crushed limestone in very good condition. We biked from Lawsonham to New Bethlehem and back and also a section towards the Armstrong Trail split and as an added bonus and workout, part of the Sligo Spur. Ended up with 35 miles for the day.
If you bike from Lawsonham to New Bethlehem, it's a 28 mile roundtrip. There are trail services, shops and eateries in New Bethlehem.
The section between Lawsonham and New Bethlehem is very scenic and serene. Quiet and peaceful with virtually no cell phone service.
Some of the beautiful sights you will come across are the Long Point Tunnel and rest stop. You will also pass an old brick factory. Mile 17 is the beautiful Climax tunnel having been refurbished in August 2018. At mile 19 is the old Coke Ovens. Also at mile 19, the trail is washed out. It was washed out following a terrible heavy rainstorm in July 2019. Thanks to the trail volunteers for constructing a temporary wooden bridge near the wash out so you can continue your journey safely along the trail.
We had lunch in New Bethlehem. Got our water bottles refilled and returned back to the parking area.
I am always up for a challenge so I pedaled up the Sligo Spur. I only went a few miles since I already had in 30 for the day and was quite tired. It's a struggle pedaling uphill with that grade but a lovely fast downhill ride back to the car at the bottom.
Next up in the other section of the trail, New Bethlehem to Brookville.
This trail is an absolute hidden gem.

Corry Junction Greenway Trail

nice trail to hike or bike

July, 2020 by rapecina

Flat, well maintained, and some me nice woods and wildlife.

Allegheny River Trail

60 Mile Ride

July, 2020 by vicki1960

Beautiful 60 mile ride. Franklin to Emlenton, and back for a 55 mile round trip, then went up the Justus Trail for a few more miles to round off to 60.
Traveling South near Brandon we saw a deer swimming across the Allegheny River and he ran up the bank and across the trail. We saw it was a small buck with antlers in velvet.
Trail is very well shaded for the most part on a hot summer day.
Batteries were old in the bike light which made it dim, but managed through the two tunnels, so in Emlenton went to the Dollar store for fresh batteries which did the trick on the return trip.
This is a great trail for a nice long ride.

Pymatuning State Park Spillway Trail

July update

July, 2020 by chadley109_tl

No recent reviews so I thought it was time. Yes the trail could use some tlc, but it’s not that bad. Rode the whole length, yes lots of grass but very level and no traffic. Lots of shade few bugs and found two side trails that you can walk and explore. First time to see the fish very unusual.

Ernst Bike Trail

Nice June 2020 Ride

July, 2020 by vicki1960

Biked the 5 mile completed paved middle section. They are constructing adding on to the trail in the city of Meadville. It's still rough but passable. The bridge near Beans trailhead that was washed out in the Fall of 2018 has been replaced recently. Always a nice trail to ride. Saw one person roller skating!

Stavich Bicycle Trail

A nice trail

July, 2020 by timmy0728

Thanks to Trail Link, got to experience another nice trail.
Started on the Pennsylvania side, New Castle area.
First mile is pretty shaded, the next 2 out are not. To say the least I got to work on my tan (burn) on a 95 degree day.
The paved trail is mostly flat, a couple spots slanted off to the left or side but nothing terrible. There are a couple small inclines for a challenge.
The scenary is nothing of note unless a possible train or a big ole swamp is your thing (which I'm very much ok with)
So as always, if you are looking for a place to get a couple miles in, give this nice trail a try.

Volunteers recently began reinstallation of a puncheon boardwalk approximately 1.25 miles from Kidds Mill trailhead. This effort opens up about 2.5 miles of trail which were previously difficult to access. Many thanks to R. Knight and B. Frazier! More boardwalk to follow in the same area.
