Allegheny River Trail

Foxburg to Parker-October 2024

October, 2024 by vicki1960

Foxburg to Parker section of the trail, 2.5 miles in length, paved, good condition. Follows the Allegheny River. We went to enjoy the Fall Foliage. Beautiful! Made an afternoon out of it: Bike ride, visited the winery and ate at the pizza shop. There is a hotel in Foxburg and noticed several cars parked in front of it with bike racks.

Butler-Freeport Community Trail

Go to trail and Derailleur Cafe!

October, 2024 by amybaron7

My husband and I ride this trail about 3-4x/month starting in Freeport. We always stop at the Derailleur Cafe which has great food—the most delicious grilled cheese (add the various relishes—you won’t be sorry!), roasted veggies over rice (add chicken or beans for a healthy lunch), fresh fruit smoothies and Leona’s Ice Cream sandwiches. It’s a darling cafe with good history (ask Dee about it—she loves to talk:-)). It’s opened daily in the summer, but due to lack of traffic, Fall has only weekend hours…11-3.
The trail itself is a nice workout—about 10 miles up a very gradual incline after the first 5 miles of flat, then down another 5 miles to Butler (we always turn around before town). We turn around to get back to Freeport all within about 3.5 hours. (If my husband is alone, he cranks it out in about 2.5). The views are along Buffalo Creek, Jones’ turkey farm (hold your nose during the heat of summer), and a cow pasture.
It’s a great, well maintained trail that’s well shaded in the summer months.

Meadville Connector is Paved

September, 2024 by vicki1960

The Meadville Connector which is at mile 0, Beans Trailhead, is now paved. It runs behind the bowling alley, Hoss', and comes out at the plaza (under the Smock Bridge) and continues to Kerrtown. Is one mile in length from Beans trailhead. Follows French Creek. This section has several small wooden bridges.

Fall on the trail

We are doing the trail now. It is beautiful with the colors changing. This trail is so well kept, with the surprise statues, just a joy to us and the dog.

Samuel Justus Recreation Trail

Would recommend to anyone. Make sure you check out the memorial for Marcy Suzette Nellis on the oil City end. Good idea to carry a firearm or a knife in case there are any Sickos like david bosley running around.

Cool weather ride on the Allegheny River Trail

September, 2024 by mcrad13

First time on this trail and the first bike packing trip for my daughter. The temps had dipped for the 2 days we were riding. We rode from Franklin to Emlenton and back. Camped near Franklin. The scenery is great, the trail grade is essentially flat. There are sections with tree root bumps that slows the pace a bit. The short gravel section is passable. There were a few branches on the trail that needed to be cleared to pass, most likely from the previous weather. All in all, a good ride.

What a gem!

Beautiful scenery with no hills. Would highly recommend starting out at Farmington Township Park heading North (left) on trail for about 13 miles to have lunch at Bettina’ Italian Restaurant in Marienville. Perfect stopping point and best Italian food ever!

I liked this trail. A little rough in spots. Had to take it slow. Views made it worth slowing down for.
