Chain of Lakes Trail

Room for improvement

Thru the worst parts of town. Room for improvement. I wouldn’t walk it after dark.

Fort Fraser Trail

Sunday Ride

October, 2023 by seashell_cottage

We live in Florida and have driven Hwy 98 for many years, always saying that we should ride this trail. Today was the day. We parked at the sheriffs station as someone had suggested. The trail is a very nice paved path for a very comfortable ride and well taken care of. Lots of shade and a chance to see the area at a slow pace. Lunch at Culver’s after our ride. A beautiful day.

Fort Fraser Trail

Nice Uncrowded 8 Miler

September, 2023 by bobm33567

I had a nice ride today at my first visit to the Fort Fraser Trail. Most of the trail parallels Hwy 98 so I wouldn't call this a deep in the woods nature trail but it is way off the highway so you feel safe. Trail was in excellent shape with only a few blind corners that encourage you to slow down. On this Friday afternoon there was very little pedestrian or bike traffic. Street crossings are well marked with stop signs and even the light poles have some cute motivational quotes printed on signs. Nice touch! I did find a diversion connector trail to the Circle B Bar Reserve. I will definitely go back there and explore some more.

Chain of Lakes Trail

for a local trail, it’s ok

August, 2023 by kuffs345

If you live in Polk Co and just want to ride without fear of getting hit by a car, then ok….although there are several areas where you have to cross streets and some of them being a little busy and questionable. We started at the south trailhead and once you get passed the homeless camps and run down industrial area, it’s a little better. I didn’t feel safe even though my husband was with me. I would never ride this trail alone. The bridges over the roadways are very steep and if you’re from Florida you might not be used to this kind of elevation. Glad it’s checked off our list but we won’t be back.

Auburndale TECO Trail

Ok for a short run or ride

August, 2023 by kuffs345

My husband and I were really looking forward to riding this trail. The parking area is nice and shaded which is nice to keep your vehicle cooler as opposed to sitting in the direct sun. There’s also restrooms here which is a plus…but if you’re looking to do more than 5 miles, this is not the trail for you. We hopped on our bikes and headed north. The tree canopy was great but just a couple miles up the path we’re huge power lines with NO trees or canopy and not scenic in the slighted.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

3 treks so far

May, 2023 by jrwemmons

The first time we rode the trail we started at Torrey Island campground & headed south for about 10 miles .. it is paved with several gates to go around. The second time we started at Canal Point & went north . The trail is gravel & some parts are very tough. I wouldn’t do it again . We went about 10 miles to Port Mayaca damn. The trail ended & we could see it on the other side of the damn but seemed the only way to get there was to go out onto the highway. We opted not to & turned back. The third time we started at the Port Mayaca trailhead & headed north for 13 miles . All paved & a very nice ride . There are no w port Mayac

Lake Jackson Trail

Nice ride

We had a nice leisurely ride around the lake on the sidewalk. Only saw one other person walking, and everybody was courteous enough to stand outside.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

Fantastic

We rode the Moore haven East section of the trail from Moore Haven to Clewiston on Sunday January 28, 2023. The 11.5 mile trail (23 mile round trip) is a smooth, very wide , paved trail which follows the top of the elevated dike and provides expansive views of the fields , canals and Lake. There are vehice gates at each end and two near the middle with pedestrian/ bike pass thrus to one side. We parked in a huge, paved parking lot at the Moore Haven damn, suitable for cars, trucks and RV's. What a great bike ride.

Auburndale TECO Trail

Relaxing and easy to walk!

Parked on the end where the dog park is so that was a plus! Super easy walk… will definitely be back.

Auburndale TECO Trail

Only good for adding miles to the General Van Fleet Trail

January, 2023 by malarkeycontainer

Unlike the wonderful General Van Fleet Trail, I don't know how this trail rates a 5 other than as a way for extreme enthusiasts to add mileage. Even so, turning around and doing another lap would be better!
Started from the Polk City trailhead that serves both the General Van Fleet Trail going north and the Aurburndale trail going south. just an FYI, the initial trailhead is signed as Polk City Trail. Aurburndale-Teco signage doesn't start for 2 or 3 miles to the south. Be ready for the first 4 miles to follow a massive power-line right-of-way out in the full sun. The trail is not pretty to say the least as it goes underneath busy I-4.
Granted the last 2 miles are quite pleasant as others have described. Trees, shade, massive athletic field complexes. Just not worth the ride to get there.

Auburndale TECO Trail

Great rural ride

January, 2023 by dan263

Landed at a nice parking area and rode along a vast athletic complex with at least a dozen soccer/lax fields. Continuing on the ride became more rural along a large power line. Get in before sunset as the bugs come out quickly!
