VERY Pretty Trail providing a good workout on a bike

July, 2019 by wwwknapp

I biked this trail eastward from RT54 to its eastern terminus at RT42 on 6/22/2019. This is NOT a flat trail as both Google and some other reviews describe. It is a roller coaster of a trail. There are places that I slowed down to 8MPH ascending the hills and then hit over 22MPH descending the hills. At approximately mile 4.1, I encountered the western edge of the McWilliams Reservoir and paralleled this for a while to its eastern edge. Near the eastern end of the trail, I encountered Kline's Reservoir. Absolutely gorgeous! If you are one that likes to have an easier return trip versus the outbound ride, then I suggest you start from RT54; the western end. I averaged 12.19 MPH on the outbound trip and averaged 12.87 MPH overall; i.e. I moved a lot faster on my eastbound return trip. The surface of the trail is NOT your typical crushed limestone but rather a very hard pressed stone & dirt trail. There were times that one was biking right next to the edge of the reservoirs. Worth the trip. If you don't have the time to do the entire trail but want to catch the awesome vistas, I suggest that you start at the eastern end @RT42 and travel westward about 3.69 miles to the western bank of the McWilliams Reservoir.

bear population

July, 2019 by sadkins

I loved this trail, but have had too many run-ins with the bear, at least 2 every few days. I make noise and do what they say to stay safe but they still follow us,I no longer feel safe and will be finding a new place to walk my dog.I hope there is something they can do, maybe relocate them

Pine Creek Rail Trail

Wonderful views and wildlife

June, 2019 by mstempka

I rode the "lower" portion of the Pine Creek Trail in mid-June 2019. I rode from Jersey Shore to Waterville and back, approximately 25 miles round trip.

In addition to parking at the Jersey Shore trailhead lot off of Railroad Street, there is parking in town in the YMCA parking lot where the trail ends.

I recommend beginning your ride in Jersey Shore, as you'll go mostly up hill to start into Waterville.

There are a number of wonderful old railroad bridges you'll cross making your way to Waterville. The mountain views are spectacular along this section, as are the views of the creek below. Expect to see a number of people kayaking and making their way down the creek.

One thing to note, do pay attention to wildlife. I did spot a large black snake sprawled across the trail and a black bear in the distance in the area of the comfort station just south of Waterville.

Overall, this trail is great and worth the drive to Jersey Shore for a ride.

Pine Creek Rail Trail

A fantastic resource

June, 2019 by craigs24

It's a beautiful ride through one of the most scenic areas in the Northeast. The State of Pennsylvania deserves a medal for its work building and maintaining this trail. For all of its 62 miles the trail is consistent, very rideable and well maintained. Campgrounds and access areas along the trail are similarly immaculate - they have a strict carry-in, carry-out policy. There are also several villages along the way and general stores where food and water is available.

Buffalo Valley Rail Trail

Wonderful time experiencing farm land and rural area on a beautiful day

June, 2019 by keeperbordner

My husband and I enjoyed the beautiful weather and rural landscape. Passed many friendly people along the way. Bathroom facilities at each end of the 9 mile Trail. Shaded by tree lined trail broken up with sunny open field areas along the way. Great places for a snack/meal either in Mifflinburg or Lewisburg. Also an Amish "serve yourself" stand midway to pick up some lemonade or a whoopie pie. A country treat.
We are very fortunate to have this great local RTT.
I did not give a 5 star rating because the restroom facilities in Lewisburg were in poor condition and the facilities in Mifflinburg were locked but replaced with a "port-a-potty".

Bald Eagle Valley Trail

Nice and easy ride.

May, 2019 by etown4sale

Rode this trail yesterday. Very nice and well maintained trail. Mountain, river and farmland views. As of now it is 2 segments for a total of 5.5 miles. Will be a great trail once all segments are completed and connects with the Pine Creek Trail.

Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail

Main portion of trail still ends at Rt 422 in Lebanon

May, 2019 by royhoffer

As of May 18, 2019, trail appears to still end at Rt 422 in Lebanon. There was a sign on the North side of 422 saying "trail ends" or similar.

Hence, the posted photo of a white bridge:
"Lebanon Valley Rail Trail
This tunnel carries the Jonestown segment of the trail under Route 22. As of 2018, this is the north end of the trail. No connection to the road has yet been built.

appears to be in error as of this date, as there is not yet a clear path to continue north of Rt 422. Perhaps the trail does begin again somewhere north of Rt 422, but it wasn't obvious to me from the location of the intersection of the trail and Rt 422.

I hope this helps.

Stony Valley Railroad Grade

One of the most beautiful trails ever

March, 2019 by matweller

Seriously, I think of PA as God's model for Heaven. And this trail may be the most beautiful part of heaven. I couldn't stop raving about it in my head for the first 11 miles or so, and then only stopped because I was beginning to realize what I was in for. It's a 25 mile trail, and a 50 mile out-and-back was more than I was really ready for. Thank goodness I turned around at the parking area at mile 17. The last 5 miles of the 34 total was all will, no skill. But even then I was in awe of the beauty. I camped in one of the camping cottages at Cowan's Gap, and it made for a beautiful weekend. I highly recommend it!

Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail

Section under construction

January, 2019 by joelkring

I was looking at the map of the trail and saw a short section of trail that I was never on between N. 25th Street and Long Lane, just north of where the main section of the trail ends (at US 422 aka Ben Franklin Hwy). I drove there to discover that it is currently under construction, large dump trucks and front end loaders moving about. Look forward to checking it out in the spring.
