Okeechobee Trail wasNice Enough for Skates,Needs Porta Potties ...Bathroom has No Light, and NO Toilet Seat.SHAMEFUL.
This is a bike path for people that want to get out and enjoy a ride in Florida on a sunny day with no snow and no below zero. You all have a nice day on your bikes and tell every one that you can enjoy Florida and be a "SNOW BIRD" just like us when we go up north on vacation we are called "SANDBIRDS FROM FLORIDA"
This was my first ride on this path in over twenty years with a e-trike and I think some of the people who ride e-bikes need to slow down. Some speed up the bike path at over twenty mile per hour and some do not even let you know that they pass you by with out a word or even ring the bell on their bike. I yell out passing on your left and even ring my bell,
The path is what it is a path to enjoy the day out in wonderful Florida.
Was a great ride, very busy with, bike walkers, jogging etc. Can’t wait until they complete two bridges under construction that will take you above highway and avoid cross walks
We parked on the north side of the Port Myaca dam and biked seven miles traveling north on the ridge of Lake Okeechobee. Then, we biked back. It was a wonderful ride on the paved trail. We saw one alligator, three racoons, caterpillars, birds and a beautiful view. We loved it and look forward to biking there again soon!
Rollerskated this entire trail. The first mile was amazing asphalt quality. It’s gets a little rough, but never intolerable. Lots of amazing views and great nature. Saw iguanas & manatees by the fishing pier at the end. Just a few intersections but they aren’t too busy. A couple clean facilities along the trail with restrooms & water fountains. Very neat trail and would recommend!
We just finished about 14 miles (round trip) yesterday. We really enjoyed it even though we encountered a little rain. Trail is straight, smooth, and well kept. We also rode the Boca Grande, not a fan! If you want a nice ride, ride the Cape Haze.
Nice flat trail. Lots of access points and bathrooms, benches, and picnic tables along the way. We didn't see very many people on a Saturday afternoon. We did see a gpher tortoise and black snake. No shade, wear your helmet/hat and sunscreen.
We rode this trail yesterday, and really enjoyed it, there really isn’t any place to park at the beginning of trail on the north side. You really have to go to the southern end of the island and use one of the parking areas there. It worked out fine though as it allowed us to also stop over to the beach when we were done. Much of the trail runs through the center of the island and it is nice because it doesn’t immediately border the road. However, it is pretty heavy with golf cart traffic so you have to watch out for the. We saw many Iguanas and a couple of turtles. We also took a little side trip out to a fishing pier where there was an old railroad and lots of people were fishing and then we also took a side trip through one of the neighborhoods at the very north end of the island where there are some very beautiful andexpensive homes.
I travel the Florida rail-trails as a distance skater (I do quad & in-line). This trail is gorgeous ! Saw a bobcat on my way down to Venice. Started in downtown Sarasota and went the entire route to Venice’s Depot. Venice Depot is gorgeous …you cross over some water but it is amazing. Great trail surface. Beautiful scenery. Little elevation gain except two bridges near the Venice end. 10/10 recommend especially for fellow skaters
We parked at Alvin Ward Park in Moore Haven. The trail is attached to the parking area. The park has a good parking lot with bathrooms and boat ramp. The trail is a nice flat asphalt on top of the dike. We saw a lot of wildlife on our ride including alligators, armadillos, quail, blue herons, 3 bobcats, seagulls, hawk, ducks and buzzards. We rode almost 12 miles to Clewiston Picnic Area at Herbert Hoover Dike and then turned around and return back to Moore Haven. The Clewiston picnic area has picnic tables along the water. I did not see any bathrooms December 2023
