We left Lewisburg and got about five miles in and it's closed. They are resurfacing parts of the trail.This was Memorial Day 2026
I drove out today as I was excited for a nice long trail but 2 miles in I was going to turn around because the stones were so large, it was a very bumpy ride. I went out 5 hoping it would improve but it did not. Ugh then 5 back. If paved it will be great. It was also 2 1/2 miles of unpaved dusty, potholed road in which was also a big turnoff.
Level, thin tiny crush stone on packed earth trail. Rolls easily, just a step below paved. From small old town of Newville through woods and farmland 10 mile ride to small university town of Shippensburg, with a couple small villages on the way. Horse path is next to bike/pedestrian path. You may see horses and riders on path. You will see farms, barns, cows, sheep, horses, cats, birds, assorted other animals, louse distant mountains. You will smell manure. It is not 15.8 miles. It is 10 miles from park at Newville to Shippensburg. You can add a couple miles by going east from Newville to a dead end. It's a nice ride. In Newville you can park at the park at Cherry & McFarland Streets
They had a ceremonial opening from Wellsboro Junction into Wellsboro today. Only allowed one day to explore the new section then closed for a couple of weeks to complete construction of a fence between the trail and the still active rail line.
We had a beautiful morning on this great trail! It started off cool( in the high 40s) but warmed nicely by noon. Watched some trout being stocked in the river on our way back to the car. I’m looking forward to coming back and seeing more of this area.
We were looking for an afternoon on the bikes and found this great trail. The Parking lots are very well marked and plenty of spaces to leave the car. Entire trail is well groomed asphalt. Very small amount of plastic bags/bottles but otherwise very clean. Beautiful ride along the Susquehanna river! Yes it was along the highway also, but the river was a great distraction. some Canada geese, a Coramont but no ducks. Bridge crossings were a little challenging but short uphills and very well marked to get back to the trail. Only complaint was that there were no {marked} restrooms along the route. We took advice from another reviewer and did a small loop at the South end of the trail in a residential park of South Williamsport. Beautiful park with a very clean restroom facility. After completing the route, we doubled back from the south parking lot and took the Market street bridge back to the north parking lot to complete the ride. Really enjoyed this.
This was a good trail, but the length shown is only including the improved part of the trail. I found the trail on this app and was biking to it from the north at Montauk Circle. This put us at the unimproved end first, which was ok, but had larger stone and skinny trails. We faired ok, but I think road bikes would have difficulty. It clocked almost 5 miles total from end to end. It was a little disheartening to get to the end and see it’s quite literally up hill both ways from there on the McKee/Clinton bike path. Still we love an adventure and the trial was fun, and if you hit Tofttrees just right the beer cart will be there for a water or Gatorade!
It was kinda rough for a paved trail. The pavement was bumpy in many places. Most of the trail is impressively wide. Be prepared for many on-street sections and crossings, some of which are busy. Wildwood park has restrooms and water. I enjoyed the ride and will be back someday.
My wife and I rode from Newville to Shippensburg today. It was @ a 10 mile ride to the Shippensburg Trailhead. We continued for 2 more blocks on Earl St to King St. On the corner of Earl & King is the King St Diner, good and good prices.
Well-maintained and shady. It was very pleasant, even on a warm summer day! This is definitely worth doing.
