Pine Island Bike Path

Pleasant ride

January, 2022 by garzahousehold

Parked off of Pine Island Road and only had time to go north or south since it was the end of day near sunset. Decided to go south to St. James. Most of the route was well paved but we had to be alert near most intersections, especially closer to stores near Pine Island Road. Not much to view but the sidewalk was paved the majority of the route. Biked 17 miles there and back. It was a pleasant, easy bike ride.

Cape Haze Pioneer Trail

Trail is straight, but narrow. Rode from the trail head to the entrance to Boca Grande and then continued on the road to Gasparilla State Park. Round trip was a little over 32 miles.

Boca Grande Bike Path

Loved it!

We drove 1.5 hours e/w to ride this trail. Had a wonderful day,l! This rating is for our overall experience, not just the trail. Even though it was a sunny Saturday, it was not crowded. We drove over in a 25’ Class C motorhome, Bridge toll to island is $6 for cars and $11 for RVs. Found a free place to park around 18th. Later saw RV/Bus parking signs around 5th. Rode our e-bikes down to the state park, through downtown, past 2 lighthouses, stopped to sit on the beach. $2 per person for bikers entering state park. Sunset drinks followed by dinner at South Beach Grill which was great. Beach/restaurant not dog friendly so we left our pup in the RV, but the trail and overall experience were great and one of our faves so far!

After striking out at the Moore Haven and Clewiston sites (closed), we went to Belle Glade and road up to Pahoke. When this trail is finished it will be magnificent!

Pine Island Bike Path

too many intersections

January, 2022 by nowlinco

Started at Pine Island Rd NW and Stringfellow. All-way stop but narrow escape from being hit by a car. Rode south to St.James City. Lots of intersections requiring almost full stop because of obstructing landscape.

Hope?

Talked to Clewiston COC. They say that the trail is open in Belle Glade. We’ll check it out tomorrow.

Cape Haze Pioneer Trail

Love this trail!

January, 2022 by nancy.anderson

Although it is very straight, the landscape on both sides is beautiful, so unlike what I’m used to in the upper Midwest. Everyone on the trail is super courteous. It’s perfect for a 10-12 mile workout. And we always see some amazing birds when crossing the Coral Creek.

Venetian Waterway Park

Perhaps I didn't go the right direction on this Trail but I walked it and it was all concrete. There is almost no shade in this is back in August so I was miserable on the white pavement.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

I hope they get it all sorted out.

So far , 9/25/21, from my own personal experience, the longest stretch of paved trail that you can ride on without being blocked is from Port Mayaca to Taylor Creek. Which is about 19 miles. Recently, I got on the trail at South Bay. I could only pedal a very limited distance before the paved part ran out or the path was blocked because of construction. As other people have stated, you might want to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

Is this some kind of a joke?!!

September, 2021 by davidehand

I pedaled from Port Mayaca to Taylor creek. The good is that part it was well paved, and I didn't have to contend with traffic. Also, I saw a pair of grey foxes. The bad part is you can't go any further on the trail at Taylor Creek. I couldn't just follow the road back to 441 because they had a chain link fence there that was locked with no way around. I had to go south on the trail to find a way over to the highway to get water. To make my way back to the trail, I had to get past this other gate that had a high curb and locks. The way they make it a big hassle to get to the road from the trail and vice versa seems like someone doesn't like cyclists? I understand having gates to keep cars off of the trail, but why are they making it hard for cyclists?
