This trial is mostly nice for biking, but the one negative is the 1 mile section of wooden bridge. The slats are quite worn, noisy and hard on a road bike with thin tires. A mountain bike, however, would handle it well. You definitely wouldn’t want children to get ahead of you on trail as the crosswalks can be busy and dangerous.
This trail, we had high hopes for after big Talbot Island, but there were way too many cars too close to the street and way too many parking lots that you had to cross over it was not a relaxing ride
The trail officially begins at N 1st St and Main. This part is not so interesting. The interesting part starts at the railroad station and going north and then west from there. Parking is easy at the railroad station, too.
This is a nice trail running from St. Augustine to Palatka. We started at the trailhead in Vermont Heights and we rode to Palatka. The trail is well maintained, smooth and restrooms along the trail. We enjoyed this trail very much and if we’re in the area again we would probably ride this again.
Rode this trail from St. Augustine to Palatka last week. It’s a nice trail, smooth and wide and well maintained. There’s restrooms/water along the trail. Parts of the trail parallel a busy road/highway so take care in crossing as the trail crisscrosses the highway. We rode to Palatka and had an early dinner. It was a nice trail! Bonus was going past the town of Hastings, Florida where it was called, Florida’s Potato Capital!
Great trail when to crowed. Shaded all the way to the bridge. Started at Peters Point ended at Little Talbot Islanders approx 22 miles. Took the street back due to trail being crowded by walkers and beach cruisers. Really nice trail .
Pro flat, shaded, not too many road crossings, well maintained. Con Not a lot of scenery, isolated, no food or drinks anywhere around.
This trail was wonderful. Very smooth ride, not very many people and beautiful scenery. I rode from Hastings to the north end and back. I will ride this again.
According to the eastcoastgreenway’s Instagram feed the 7-mile Extension to St. Augustine has been completed! Gotta get down there to ride it this winter. ¿
Weather was unusually perfect at 70F for our ride, a small cool window. I could imagine the cooling of the forest canopies on much hotter days. Trail was exactly as described and suited me and my wife very well. I think we had more Fall debris on the road than expected. Four stars from us. Started at trailhead Twin Lakes and headed both ways eventually to put on the miles.
Mid October ride was cool in temp but even a warmer day would take advantage of the shaded trails for cooling. Parked at the COVID closed convention center as were many other areas. Closed water park reminded me of Wally World. FYI entry to the island cost for all day parking. 8$ did not see this on the other reviews, maybe I missed.
