If you have researched the GAP at all, you already know this was among the first trails inducted into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame. Many riders continue to go back to ride it again. That speaks volumes to the experience of riding this trail. If you are an end-to-end rider, and not a camper, you will need accommodations. I would like to highly recommend Cardinal's Roost B&B in Rockwood, PA. You will not find more amiable hosts than Jennifer and Chris. The accommodations are spotless, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The breakfast is out of a 5-star restaurant. They have a huge garage to store your bikes with plenty of space to do maintenance if need be. Jennifer and Chris are bicyclists themselves so they understand needs of cyclists. If passing through Rockwood on the GAP or just enjoying the beautiful scenery, you cannot go wrong with Cardinal’s Roost.
We are doing the trail now. It is beautiful with the colors changing. This trail is so well kept, with the surprise statues, just a joy to us and the dog.
The crown jewel of trails in Ashtabula County Ohio!
Love this trail and it is open all year round.
I suggest starting it at the Munson Hill Trailhead or the Austinburg Trailhead. Rent an E-Bike during the summer at On the Lake Electric Bike Company. They drop off the bikes at the trailhead.

First time on this trail and the first bike packing trip for my daughter. The temps had dipped for the 2 days we were riding. We rode from Franklin to Emlenton and back. Camped near Franklin. The scenery is great, the trail grade is essentially flat. There are sections with tree root bumps that slows the pace a bit. The short gravel section is passable. There were a few branches on the trail that needed to be cleared to pass, most likely from the previous weather. All in all, a good ride.
I will change this if it posts. My first detailed review disappeared and didn't post.
I’m from Ohio and the Ohio side is awful- so I’m not knocking OH ¿But overall decent ride and beautiful scenery! The trains are pretty cool too
I liked this trail. A little rough in spots. Had to take it slow. Views made it worth slowing down for.
I used to frequent this trail for the views. One of the most beautiful Pittsburgh sunrises can be seen from the edge of Washington landings. Well I recently went back and the area just didn’t seem too biker friendly anymore. It seems like the rocks and gravel have tripled. You have to take a very slow and methodical pace to complete this loop. Please be careful when going to Washington Landing
We live close to this trail, but had not tried walking it in many years! We read the last review and it sounded good so we went a little over halfway and turned around. We started at kids Mill at the covered bridge. We walked to the new hamburg bridge and then returned. The trail is very well maintained…..we were greatly pleased! We met Joe on the trail, he does a lot of maintenance volunteer work and had a great by lot really nice conversation with him. He was busy working on the trail today.
Only 3 stars cause of dog poop on bike tires every time we go. Trail itself probably a 4
An ABSOLUTELY beautiful trail! We are SO glad we listened to friends and have this a try. Well worth the hour+ drive from Clearfield! We'll be back!!
