Nice Trail for a Quick Ride

May, 2026 by ronr1

This is a nice trail for a quick ride, but nothing particularly special. It is well maintained with several parking areas along the trail. The easiest to access are the ones near USF at the northern trailhead and the other just south of Clubhouse Dr.

Punta Gorda Harborwalk

It opened recently. Its a great trail to walk or ride. Some areas have a lot of people. Then from Fisherman's Village you can follow a trail thru Punta Gorda.

Not a Trail

April, 2026 by tbobx

This is not a trail. This is a bike lane on a two lane road on a busy barrier island. In snowbird season it is more crowded with cars.

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Solitude plus!

February, 2026 by gmerens

There don't seem to be many outdoor spaces left in crowded central Florida that offer a quiet, removed experience. This trail has it in abundance, however. Running straight as an arrow through grazing lands, forest, and wetlands, it's almost a Zen-like experience as you cruise silently along the miles. Most activity is near to the trail starting points, so after a few miles away from those, you're left to yourself. One of the best, for sure.

Legacy Trail (FL)

One of the Best

Opinion: electric motor bikes and trikes should be banned from bicycle and pedestrian paths. Dangerous. Ridiculous. Why not just drive a car or truck on the road. What's your hurry anyway? Rode from terminus Sarasota to Scherer State Park and back, around 27 miles, completing the trail as we did the southern part a couple days earlier. Perfectly maintained wide paved rail trail, from city through suburbs, wild woods, and along intercoastal. Flat except from a few steep overpasses. Several crossings on the Sarasota half but well controlled by signals and warning lights. Not too crowded on a February weekday but probably gets busy. A couple of odd things: vast majority of vehicles are electric motor bikes and trikes, many of them ridden by people dressed as Amish. Some fat tired superfast dangerous electric motorbikes

Superior Ride

We rode from Oscar Scherer State Park to the south end of Venetian Waterway Park, about 19 miles round trip on mostly level (except for a couple steep overpass ramps) on perfectly paved surface, through tropical woods and along the intercoastal. Real nice in February. Probably very hot in summer. Only "complaint" is 90% electric bikes.

Legacy Trail (FL)

excellent trail!

Great paved surface, used by riders and walker/runners. Nice and wide, well marked. A few road crossings with crossing signals and several “overpasses “ over really busy roads. Definitely worth the ride!

Venetian Waterway Park

Great Ride!

It’s a natural extension off the Legacy trail. Good pavement, well traveled. Highly recommended!

Nicely paved, several street crossings. There and back 16+ miles. Great ride!

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

BORING

January, 2026 by jcparker914

The trail was about 10’ wide And definitely no bathrooms. Very desolate very very few people around we went on a Saturday afternoon. Cloudy it probably would’ve been hot if the sun was out it was 75 and cloudy if you like cows and trees you would enjoy it. We went about 7 miles and turned around. We sort of liked this path but other than that it was boring I thought and so did my wife. We started on the south end by Auburndale Trail and continued on to this trail about

RELAXING

¿. You can ride along The path and see the huge sports complex. Beautiful dog park fenced in and playgrounds - all types of stuff for people to do - benches for sitting on the sides of the trail. The trail is blacktop about 10 foot wide very smooth besides some spots. We started at the south end and went north to General James A. Vann Fleet State Trail and continued on that trail for another 15 miles then turned around and came back

Lake Jackson Trail

I didn't care for this trail. Its all on uneven sidewalks in front of houses and you never know when someone pulls out and stops in the bike lane. Then you have to ride on route 98 which is also on sidewalks with busy ass traffic.
