Just arrived and the trail is closed. Guessing they are paving it?
Rode this trail by bike and by car. Overgrown with Mangoes and underbrush. Very boring cannot see a darn thing Rode up to Sebastian state park and going over bridge ( over the inlet) is unprotected and windy and dangerous park ranger Whois a local resident advised not go over bridge. She also only gave us a 30 minutes pass to ride thru the state park.
I ride this area at least twice a week. The trails are wide & the scenery is pretty good. It is great place to ride at night if you enjoy that. The neighborhood is always well decorated at Christmas.
Cute little trail. Very smooth with many boardwalks. Perfect short ride after a day at Kennedy Space Center. Blessed with a red shoulder hawk!!!!
Has cute scenery! Lots of it is boardwalk, but smooth even as a boardwalk! As a distance skater, it was still easy and enjoyable. Averaged 9 mph on skates. Easy surface and saw a red shoulder hawk which is always a treat :)
Rode from the north end, parking at Pelican Island Nature Preserve. (Note that start point described by gps wasn’t available as there was just a locked gate.) There was hard rain two weeks ago, which might have caused or worsened the surface. Bumps, potholes and some ruts. Couldn’t just steer around many decayed of passing cars and pickups. Miserable for a bike ride.
Dec 15, 2023 Visiting from AZ in our RV/jeep/Ebikes. We did this trail sort of by accident last year and liked it. This year we parked at the Lake Monroe Boat Park (nice bathrooms and picnic area and fun to watch the boaters). You can ride directly on the bridge over the St John river-very wide path protected by a concrete barrier. The ride along the Lake is a nice wide sidewalk path and you are right on the water. I read an earlier review that said you could actually work your way around the Lake and that was the goal but it was SO WINDY we had to abandon that idea for another day.
Nice paved trail for a short ride. We parked at the visitor center and rode the southern section. It will be if/when both sections are connected.
we had a blast riding in a group, enjoying the shade and sunny skies.
We rode this path from a beach park on south Hutchinson Island to downtown Vero Beach. It was a big ride for us 8 miles one way. Lunch and a drink made it worth the trip. It was mid July and a bit hot. A nice quiet afternoon. We will do it again in the Fall
We reviewed this awesome trail three years ago and agreed with most others that it is indeed a wonderful resource for getting out and exercising in Volusia County. The only criticism we had is that it didn't have - and still doesn't have - any posted trail rules and etiquette reminders. Thus, an otherwise 5 star trail is rated a 4 by us. As a result of this neglect, there are a growing number of users - mainly inconsiderate and speeding bicyclers, now joined by the rapidly growing population of e-bikers/trikers - that make the experience far less enjoyable than it should be.
While we both bicycle and walk all segments of this great trail, we mostly walk. In doing so, we are routinely met/overtaken by bikers/trikers who seem to think that it is our responsibility to make room for them, rather than the other way around. The latest irritant (and danger) are the swarms of of e-trikers (mostly older folks) who want to ride 2 and even 3 abreast, oblivious to anyone else out there. And the alarming speeds some of these folks often attain simply have no place on a trail that is supposed to be free of motorized vehicles. We have repeatedly reported this activity to the responsible county manager and have asked that some very basic and random usage guidelines be posted. We've been told that they would look into the matter, but so far nothing.
