Paul Henry-Thornapple Trail

terrible “trail “!

July, 2021 by jplaweck

We visited GR for a bike vacation and the trail from Kentwood going south for at least the first 5 miles was the very worst bike trail we’ve ever experienced anywhere! Terribly maintained, poorly signed, narrow and bumpy! Plus a long stint right next to a very loud interstate! I mean right next to it!! We found the trail so unenjoyable that we rerouted ourselves back to our car off the trail after only 5 miles! With so many other great bike trails in the area, don’t waste your time on this one!!!Truly brutal!!

Musketawa Trail

Asphalt needs repair / resurfacing

July, 2021 by utahfoto

Nice ride mostly in the shade from the 8th Avenue trail head up to Ravenna (12 miles). Also a nice trestle just south of Ravenna. The asphalt is in better shape after Ravenna and in to Muskegon for the last 13 miles. The depot in Ravenna has a vending machine with ice cold water and soda. It was a life saver for me because I became dehydrated on the return trip. The depot had 3 shaded picnic tables so it was a good spot to cool off and rehydrate.

Muskegon Lakeshore Trail

mixed delights

July, 2021 by ellenives

We started at the Lake Michigan beach parking lot ($7/day, no hourly rate) and biked east toward Muskegon. The first two miles were through a residential neighborhood, along a road that was pretty busy for a cool, foggy, mid-day week. At Mike two(where we wish we had parked) the trail became more of a dedicated biking trail and the reconstructed section along the Lakeshre was delightful.

Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park

Reed City to Leroy

July, 2021 by stevej371

Biked this section of the WP trail a couple days ago.
The section (.4 mile) of unpaved trail near Ashton, was being surveyed.
One of them said the culvert under the trail is due to be improved and the rest of the trail paved...in the near future.
Already some heavy equipment parked nearby.

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

Scenic Ride but very bumpy asphalt

June, 2021 by ejschreur62

I rode from Greenville to Edmore. Averaging 15mph on a road bike. The asphalt was too bumpy for me. There was a stretch nearing Edmore that was nice, but the majority had cracks every 25 ft making the ride teeth rattling and head/neck jarring.
Other than that, it was very scenic. I saw a deer, a mother possum with 3 babies following along, many chipmunks and birds. Hopefully they'll be able to resurface it soon.

Muskegon Lakeshore Trail

Reconstruction work is completed - June 2021

June, 2021 by grandpotentateuniverse

It is open again! As noted elsewhere, there had been some serious damage to the trail due to high water and weather. In addition, a portion was rebuilt as part of cleanup of former use of the shoreline by long-gone industry. This has been completed and improved. The trail is complete again.

Hart-Montague Trail

May, 2021 by joelschekman

It’s true what other people said , the trail is incredibly smooth except for a few hundred yards at the beginning in Montague. Also stop in at the Country Dairy farm about half way along the trail between Shelby and New Era. Great food and restaurant and good place to rest for a bit . Definitely the smoothest trail I’ve ever been on

Muskegon Lakeshore Trail

Disappointed

May, 2021 by wbschnug

We were excited to try this trail, and enjoy the views of both Lake Michigan & Lake Muskegon. We started from Beachwood Park, and took the Boardwalk Loop to connect to the trail. We were only a few miles in before discovering the trail was closed. There were no suggested detours, and heading north, we could find no way back to the trail. On the way back we rode the boardwalk - scenic , but very short ride.

Fred Meijer Pioneer Trail

Not your typical rail trail

May, 2021 by tim36r

Starting at the end of the Musketawa trail that is a true rail to trail, this follows a rail bed for less than a mile. The next couple of miles are along side a rail bed but go up an down at their own pace. Cross under the highway and you get a long down hill winding back up to 3 mile road. Next couple of miles are on concrete along 3 mile road with hills up and down. Completed in 2020 the last section is a twisting down hill to west river drive. Overall a great trail but be ready to climb hold

Fred Meijer Flat River Valley Rail Trail

Great trail option for staying off roads!

May, 2021 by abandonedbrain

Previous reviewer had it pretty accurate for the Lowell to Belding stretch. Paved in the cities, leads to hard-pack (like crushed gravel/old asphalt but highly compressed) with some dirt mixed in. Mtb bikes, hybrids and gravel bikes will not have any problems here; I rode an average 15MPH from 4 Mile (Lowell side) up to north of Belding and back on a gravel bike, very few soft spots and they were marked for repair. And I'm a larger guy, but no worries about tires. Land around the trails was beautiful!
