Southern Links Trailway

fantastic trail

April, 2020 by pbazely

Started in Columbiaville, ride to Millington, turned around and rode back to Columbiaville. Honestly, if it hadn’t been one of my first rides this early season, I would have gladly rode back. This trail is a hidden jewel of a ride. Blacktop the entire way, in fantastic shape with well maintained wooden bridges and great spots to stop in Otter Lake and Millington. Saw turtles, snakes, kids on bikes and roller blades, walkers, dogs, etc. if you’re looking for a well maintained nice trail, check it out.

Applewood Trail

Nice

March, 2020 by wonderwomanajams

A nice trail used by walkers, runners, students, locals, as well as cyclists. It connects to the ever expanding Flint area trail system and is a nice way to tour the Flint area by trail.

M-21 Non-Motorized Path

An option to use if needed

March, 2020 by wonderwomanajams

As a local, I no longer use this trail due to the expansion of the Flint area trail system. However, this trail is useful if one needs to connect to specific neighborhoods and businesses in the area. Can use the Genesee Valley Trail (no cars) to connect

Kettering Gateway Trail

Genesee Valley Trail

Great Trail

March, 2020 by wonderwomanajams

A great trail that connects with several other trails in the Flint Area. Love how there are various sections of different scenery that allows for variety. Close to various shops, stores, restaurants, and the mall, in case one needs to buy a forgotten item. Used by walkers, runners and locals throughout the year.

Chevy Commons Trail

great smooth trail

March, 2020 by wonderwomanajams

Nice trail that connects to several other trails within the city. Nice view of Kettering University campus, the Flint River, and State Historical Site of where the General Motors Sit-Down Strike occurred. Runners, walkers, skate boarders and people just enjoying the green space share his trail with cyclists.

Flint River Trail (MI)

Interesting ride

February, 2020 by bret1lurvey

It's a fairly good trail, its good to know that the trail runs on both sides of the Flint River and also goes through some rough areas of the city. It is one of the more interesting trails I've rode, depending on where you go there's a lot to see, such as Stepping Stones Falls, Bluebell Beach, The Abandoned Flint Water Plant (Don't try to enter) and a lot of other cool things. It's also good to know this trail connects to other trails when it ends so you should know when you want to stop. The trails worst part is between the University of Michigan Flint and Dort Hwy, This area runs through a rough neighborhood and the trail needs repairs but it is a short ride. If you're riding north and reach Dort Hwy make sure to take the trail behind the water plant, if you take the trail of E Boulevard Dr it will take you behind an abandoned school and then end. I've probably rode this trail a hundred times by now, I've never had an encounter with someone who wanted to rob me, but it does happen occasionally, so stay cautious and try to bring somebody with you. Other than it's a good ride with some city sights, some beautiful nature, and some history.

Black Creek Nature Trail

Nice trail

This is a very pretty trail. A short, paved trail that follows the creek. Many benches along the way and there are restrooms at the dog park.

Road bike (15mph) from Jackson Landing to Stanton. Trail in good condition with some cracks at regular intervals. Leaves covering some of those cracks made it interesting at times. Peaceful setting.

Fred Meijer Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Trail

103 Mile cyclocross.

October, 2019 by mvanvleck

I biked the entirety of the improved portion of this trail yesterday 10/9/19.
I started in Ovid, where there was parking by the trail but no public restrooms and headed west. As anticipated, the trail was improved and very nice until Smith Road just west of Owasso (about 7.5 miles). Past Smith Road, the trail was overgrown with grass 2-3 ft tall and trees growing across--impassable without a machete. I turned around there and rode all the way through Saranac, where the trail ended at mile marker 133. Past there, the trail had original railroad ballast with large stones, not passable even with a mountain bike. I then turned back and returned to my car in Ovid. The most beautiful part of the trail was West of Pewamo, as it was along the Grand River valley. East of Pewamo to Owasso, it is primarily farm land sheltered by a line of trees in most places. There is parking and restrooms along the trail in St. Johns, Fowler, Pewamo, Muir, Ionia and Saranac. The trail was beautifully, newly paved asphalt within all of the towns, and hard-packed crushed limestone in between. It was perfect for a cyclocross bike or mountain bike and most likely entirely passable with a road bike (some rare soft spots in the crushed stone could be difficult). I will definitely ride this again. 51.5 miles of improved trail total, for a round tip distance of 103 miles.

September 2019 Ride

We parked at the Jackson's Landing Trailhead in Greenville. Biked a few miles North on the Heartland Trail. This was after we biked on the Flat River Trail.
The Heartland Trail is newly paved and in very good condtion.
In Greenville there are places to eat and other services.
Hope to do more of this trail in the future.
