Definitely a trail I will come again. Very nice and well kept area. Emergency markers are all over the place.
This trail was beautiful especially for a fall ride. Everything is paved with a couple bumps far and few in between. There is plenty of areas you can veer off and explore. You can start near Platt Road and end in downtown Saline for lunch, a drink or take Maple Rd straight to the Dairy Queen for Ice cream! Everyone you come across is considerate nice and the entire trail is very safe!
The paved portions of this trail are a nice ride although at times you may need to 'portage' over (instead of under) the bridges at Van Dyke Ave, Riverland and M-53 due to standing water beneath.
North of M-59 you pass ballfields and go through a tunnel then watch on your right (east) side for a dirt path heading up a slight hill. This leads to a one-way bike/mountain bike trail which winds through the woods. There is good signage as you cross a few other trails. Good river views and surprisingly pretty views of the Clinton-Kalamazoo canal flowing by.
This is mostly a flat stretch until you reach Riverbends Park. Turn around here and take the first right (west) for a more challenging return ride. You can choose between green, blue (one) and yellow trail options along this stretch which serpentines and switch backs alongside the river. There are several built features on this stretch including log jumps, whoop di doos etc but all can be avoided by going around if you choose. There are a few tighter tree squeezes and a couple descents and climbs that could have you off your bike so take care the first time through.
Near the end of this SSE route you can easily loop back to the first (north north west bound) trail so this area is convenient if you'd like to do several 'laps' and make your visit most worthwhile.
Trail surface is primarily packed dirt with a few rocks, minimal sand and of course hundreds of roots!
At 60 years old I am not a 'rock-hopper' nor jumper so this trail is a very nice option where I can challenge myself with speed and trying not to put a foot down while staying safe.
I've only been on this trail during weekdays when very few people are around. Most folks are on the paved portions so you may have these trails mostly to yourself! As always, be on the lookout for hikers and 'wrong direction' riders.
Three of us rode this trail in 4 out and back rides. There are several waypoints along the way where I met my companions over several rides. Very smooth and easy riding since it's a rail trail and is well maintained by Pinckney Recreation area.
I used to live right off of 14 Mile Road, West West Maple in Walled Lake back in the late 90's and used to walk the railroad when it was still a working railroad. My wife's niece and I road its Memorial Day weekend (May 2026) and it was a great rail-trail. Definity worth your time, that bridge is tough to get over.
I pick up this trail by riding in the new bike lane on Tremainsville Rd. and picking up the Chessie Circle close to Start High School. The path is all paved and very smooth. Yes it does have quite a few streets to cross but they are very navigable. It travels through residential areas mostly. I usually bike to the University of Toledo and then around Ottawa Park (on a multi-use trail) until I get back to Kenwood and bike through the Old Orchard neighborhood. Then I reverse to get back home. This is my go to trail when I want to bike from home. Love it!!
Thank you to whoever removed all the downed trees on the Macomb Orchard Trail west of Armada! Now if we could get the county to trim all the overhanging branches and vegetation from the trail.
As I said a year ago, this trail needs maintenance. Trees and bushes need to be trimmed. Sinking pavement needs fixing. Trail is getting rough in spots - assume from under trail tree roots. I trimmed a bunch of overhanging branches (and got "Thank You" from about 6 people), but no way can I trim all the branches from the whole trail.
I rode this trail on July 11, 2026. Note: Beginning of trail is closed. Trail needs maintenance, looks like it has been neglected. Over hang needs trimmed, some areas bumpy. All in all a good ride. Signage would help a lot.
Awesome trail for a nice easy ride, very little elevation, good pavement, good scenery, kind of nice going through Clyde and other areas.
Parked in pickney. Turn left vs right. Stopped so much going right. Left had a few crossroads woth major traffic then it went to a park, but also gravel. Still was nice. Just prefer trails that aren’t stop and go. Decent shade coverage.
