Suncoast Trail

Rolling Trail

February, 2018 by tjprosseda

Biked this trail from the Rt 50/98 Trailhead on a Sunday morning. Signage was available in locating the trailhead which was helpful. The building had restrooms available, however, there lacked much information regarding the trail itself. No maps, no idea of mileage points at this trailhead to determine # of miles to the north or south, elevation and so forth. Biked on the southern end from the trailhead which was a little hilly in spots then crossing a 4 lane highway could be hairy. I am from Pa biking the Pine Creek Rail Trail where the grade is 2% so the Suncoast Trail did give me a workout. I enjoyed the path itself for riding and the availability of shade here and there. I'm not likely to go back only because of the hilly terrain for me. Great trail for training to bike long bike trips.

Flatwoods Park Trail

Visitor Biking

February, 2018 by tjprosseda

Positives of this trail would be it's flat, clean and easy to access to the trail, has restrooms and parking available if you get there early on the weekend.
There really isn't much to see in terms of wildlife on the trial but it is a good trail to do some training in terms of mileage. I went on a Saturday so there was a significant number of people walking, running, skating, biking including a group that was speed biking as a group. If you want less traffic, I would suggest going during the week when school is in session. I did enjoy putting in some miles for my exercise.

Withlacoochee State Trail

Take your time!

January, 2018 by coconutbay

This is a very long trail and we were a bit overwhelmed by the length of this trail, since we live almost two hours away. Where do I start? Where do we grab lunch? What if we break down?

I invite you to read the other reviews. I hope this helps fill in some gaps.

Here's what we did:

Broke it into three sections. Day one we started at the red caboose. Google the address for David's World Cycle and you can find it easily a stone's throw away (There's another bike shop about a block away. Very nice people there as well.) We rode south almost to Hernando County. On the way back we stopped at Robin's Country Kitchen for a bite. (See TripAdvisor for review).

Day Two: Weeks later we nearly froze as we started at the Owensboro Trailhead (no restrooms there, by the way) and went north into Citrus County. The Townsen Lake Preserve had a sandy trail to it, so it was impossible for us to get the TerraTrikes all the way there. Met the ranger at Ridge Manor and he was a friendly fellow who advised us about possible wild turkey sightings.

Day Three: Yesterday we parked just north of 486 and scooted north to finish it off. Just before 491you can turn left (unmarked) and end up .5 mile later at a nice county park. (Central Ridge )On Saturdays there's a lot of soccer action, but you could grab typical concession stand fare: burgers, dogs, cokes, fries, etc. there if you want. 491 is a very busy crossing with no lights to help. You can't pedal down to the light without jumping on the highway (no bike lane there, either.) Just be careful and bring your patience.

INSIDER INFO:
1) Just north of 486 there's a place called Burger Station on the east side of the trail. We stopped after other cyclists' gave a good recommendation. It was very busy and only saw burgers so we left. Had a great aroma though!
2) If you break something on your bike, there's an Ace hardware store at the corner of 486 and 41.

Cady Way Trail

Hardly Worth it

January, 2018 by buffettbike

My wife and I rode the trail round trip on January 20, 2018. We started at the fashion Square Mall. Construction (no doubt temporary) has destroyed the trail start and parking lot near the post office. We had to ride around the block and intercept the trail where it intersects Maguire. No big deal, but an annoyance nonetheless. The only worthwhile aspect of the next segment of the trail was the the fact that you could connect to a very nice trail that runs around Lake Baldwin and passes the community's downtown area as you circle the lake. The rest of the trail itself up to the big bridge overpass is quite forgettable. From the big overpass to the end of the trail is not even worth riding. Near the end of the trail there is an overlook at Perch Lake. The overlook was populated with a bunch of seedy looking people, although they seemed not to pay any attention to us on bikes. This trail gets one star for just there actually being a trail there and the other star for the access to the Lake Baldwin trail.

West Orange Trail

Winter Garden Trail Portion

January, 2018 by vidman10

An earlier review suggest that the Winter Garden portion of the trail prevented 5 stars. Sad, as the small town has an excellent historic museum, interesting train museum, excellent and tasty restaurants. Slow down, stop and smell the roses. Biking is not only an adventure, it is meant to be enjoyed as well.

RUSA Trail Ride 10/28/2017

November, 2017 by sir_randall954

I rode the entire length trail out and back as part of a RUSA randonneur ride this fall. It was a few weeks after Hurricane Irma hit and the trail was clear of all debris. Kudos to the local trail clubs and the State Park service on maintaining the trail so well. Plenty of resources along the trail for water stops and bathrooms. Trail is well marked and road crossings are decent. Several sections are have plenty of tree canopy to keep you cooler on hotter days. Drove up from South Florida to ride this trail.

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

What a big surprise

November, 2017 by gregride

I was in Orlando FL area for the Thanksgiving Holiday week. So I decide to bring my bike and ride some of the trails in the area. I started with the Van Fleet and boy what a surprise I got. The trail was well maintain and had bike repair stations about every 2 to 3 miles. The restroom was super clean , well the one I use at the Green pond road trail head. There was Park Rangers on duty, That's a big plus. I talk to a lot of friendly people on the trail. This trail is straight and flat. Makes for some good tempo and SST rides. I rode the trail all week and did not bother trying out the other trails.

Cross Seminole Trail

Wish it connected to Wekiva Trail @ I-4

There are many busy intersections. It’s not as shady as Wekiva Trail either, so I can’t go as far with my dog.

Flatwoods Park Trail

November, 2017 by debbie.porte

A wonderful Sunday morning trail.
The 7 mile multi-use loop lives up to its name. I always prefer a loop. It's so nice to be able to park, cycle and return to the vehicle without having to turnaround.
This is a wonderful paved flat trail surrounded by wonderful Florida wildlife. Rest and water stations are plentiful.
This trail now has automated parking meters that can accept credit/debit cards as well as cash. $2 for the day includes all Hillsborough County Parks.
