Mike Levine Trail

December, 2023 by ferretnutz

Nice paved path from Pettysville Road and M 36 marshaling area through Pinckney. The path turns to fine crushed stone near Anderson and was quite a chore to ride on due to wet, low light areas which had not dried out. Not great in this area for bikes on a leisurely ride. Nice dry, sunny day of 50 degrees. The path will probably not dry out here all winter.

Falling Waters Trail

Falling Waters Trail

If you like water, wildlife, serenity, and long, straight, flat trails enveloped by a canopy of trees, then this is the trail for you.

I started at the Concord trailhead, and as I made my way past the north branch of the Kalamazoo River, along the trail beneath the canopy of trees, and eventually to the causeway across Lime Lake before another canopy of trees to Jackson, I kept thinking to myself how great it must be to live nearby and to enjoy this trail year-round and its four seasons.

I experienced it on a brisk, early October morn and enjoyed the beginnings of fall color and the golden brown, leaf covered path. As a visitor from suburban southern California, I don't really get to enjoy that Autumn color back home.

I especially appreciated the clean air, picturesque scenery, solitude, modern whimsical sculptures near the Jackson trailhead, and the outgoing and friendly locals utilizing the trail.

The bike ride was only a twenty-two mile round trip, but it was certainly worth the journey for me from SoCal to enjoy this idyllic setting!

Pumpkinvine Nature Trail

Pumpkinvine Nature Trail

November, 2023 by thejake91739

In my quest to ride my bike in all fifty states,I drove over 2,000 miles from southern California to ride thirty-four miles on this trail in early October. I was not disappointed! This is truly a five star trail, the quintessential Rails-to-Trails experience! There aren't enough superlatives to describe this trail!

In simplest terms, this curvy trail through the Indiana countryside made this sixty-eight year old guy happy. I realized I was actually smiling as I pedaled through the woods upon a carpet of golden brown leaves. The corn fields are amazing, as are the farms and their pastures of grazing horses, cows, and sheep.

I especially enjoyed my interactions with the friendly Amish community. Whether on their bikes, walking, in their yards, or passing by and waving from their horse drawn carriages, they comprised at least 75% of the people I encountered. I think the trail should be nicknamed "The Amish Trail" in their honor. There sure as heck aren't any pumpkins!

Elkhart County, you are to be commended, and your trail deserves Hall of Fame status!

Great Trail

October, 2023 by rick888

This trail starts at Whitmore Lake and goes all the way to Jackson prison. The trail is mostly crushed limestone which is smooth and flat. Nice scenery the whole way. The trail goes very close to the prison. You can even see the inmates exercising in the yard. It was like a movie set.

Falling Waters Trail

Great fall bike ride

This is my new favorite trail. Sparkling clear lakes appear on one or both sides of the trail with spots for sitting and enjoying the views. We saw several pairs of swans.

Unique Trail

October, 2023 by jim_harding45

I biked the trail from Middlebury to Shipshewana. It was a beautiful ride through Amish country. However, the trail itself was nice and flat, but was peppered with horse manure, and very buggy! In addition, it was very heavily used which made the ride much less relaxing than others. Keep in mind, the access to amenities is limited in on Sundays, so riding the Pumpkinvine take a little planning. Otherwise, enjoy the meandering trail some of the best of what Indiana has to offer!

Beautiful trail

September, 2023 by jgabos

Very nice, well maintained. Great great trail for getting the miles in. Shipshewana to Goshen is as good as it gets. Coming back...whew, mostly entirely uphill to varying degrees. I'll be back in the fall for the colors.

lovely ride

August, 2023 by tjmodd

We started at Whitmore Lake Road and biked 3 miles past Gregory. The parts of the trail that are paved are excellent. And road bike worthy. The crushed stone path is also very well-kept. There are some leaves and debris across the trail but nothing alarming. My husband and I were on mountain bikes. However, we saw many people on road bikes on the crushed stone. Beautiful scenery. We will ride this again.

Fishing Line Trail

Was on this trail for the first time and definitely won't be my last time. This tree covered trail is beautiful and definitely not busy. The asphalt trail is very smooth for cyclists. And the amount of Porta potties is a plus.

Rieke Park Trail

Great trail.

July, 2023 by vboyddevine

This trail is really nice. It's paved and very well-kept. The park in front of the trail is also a very nice park with pavilions and lots of sports activities and clean bathrooms. If you take the trail north of the park you can use sidewalks to connect to the DeKalb trail. If you take the trail south of the park you can end up in town and also go on an adjoining path to the reike park lodge and pond. It was a great trail that was very wide and pretty.
