Industrial Track Greenway Trail

Creepy Trail Ride

August, 2018 by xcrunner1401

Found nothing scenic or enjoyable on this trail. Rode thru questionable areas, not enough light in the tunnels to see the ground, crossed two busy roads, rode the trail right next to the women's prison.

Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Nice easy ride for greater miles

August, 2018 by jackieaustin

My husband and I decided to check this trail out (without our kids) so we could come back more informed. We found plenty of parking at nearby Sawmill Creek Park where there is a connector trail to access. On a summer Sunday it was busy, but we were able to move at our pace and enjoy 9 miles of the 13 before turning back to the beginning. The trail is paved and while we encountered one rough section, there were signs indicating a re-paving effort underway. An easy ride, there was lots to see and the interesting bridges that took us over roadways and streams were fun. Lots of families using sections of the trail accessing them by small connecting trails to neighborhoods. The trail was nicely marked with cross street signs and information at popular access points. We found a great pit stop near Riggs AVe.; a shopping Center with a bike shop, pizza/sub place, creperie, frozen yogurt shop, coffee shop and steak sub place. Something for every hungry biker and lots of racks for bikes. Every shop welcomed riders to refill water. Our first 18 mile ride; certainly won't be our last here.

Chester Valley Trail

Beautiful, well-kept trail

August, 2018 by dykins744

This is my new favorite trail. It is flat, shady and immaculately maintained. Not one rough spot in the paving, not one piece of trash on the entire 14 mile length. There is lots of green space on both sides of the trail so that most of the time you don't realize that you are in the middle of quite a built-up area. We've started at both the Exton end and the King of Prussia end (2 different days) and in both cases rode about 7 miles to Media, where we had lunch, and then did the return trip. The Exton end is very flat while the King of Prussia end has a few not-too-difficult hills. There are a few road crossings but they are well controlled by lights and the drivers in this area seem to be familiar with the trail crossings and often stop before you get to push the button for the traffic signal. The only crossing that is a real pain is going over Route 100 if you want to ride past Main Street at Exton. We won't bother with that again. The trail is well used by walkers and bikers on weekdays but there was not so much traffic to make it feel crowded. (Not sure how busy it is one weekends.) We love this trail!

Trail Blocked by downed trees at Suburban Kiosk N of New Castle

July, 2018 by beachlynn

Road the trail from the Boulden trail head towards Wilmington and was stopped at the new bridge. Workers there still doing replanking and it is closed. Went south towards Olde New Castle and found the trail blocked at the Suburban Kiosk about .75 miles from New Castle. Did see a deer on the trail. Can't wait until I can do the trail end to end.

Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail

Beautiful Scenery, rough trail surface

July, 2018 by joelkring

Now that the restaurant in Monkton is open, with a delicious healthy menu, my wife and I try to ride this trail once or twice a month. We would ride it more often but its an hour and 45 minute drive to New Freedom just to get to the trail. The scenery is great as the trail follows a creek that is 1 to 2 feet wide near New Freedom and grows to 20 to 30 feet wide by the time you reach Cockeysville. We have seen lots of wildlife including a red fox. The trail surface is in dire need of improvement. Almost as soon as you cross from PA into MD you notice the difference, from a wide path smooth from edge to edge to a rougher surface with lots of pot holes. If you ride a recumbent trike you're in for a rough ride as much of the trail is two single tracks. The transitions from trail to bridges and at road crossings are also very rough.

Chester Creek Trail

pleasant trail

July, 2018 by kjnerz

Well maintained trail, nice scenery along creek, relatively flat, well designed bridge over Chester Creek. I believe there are plans to extend it another mile or so on the Lenni end. Only drawback is its length. Up and back is 6 miles, so if biking and you want a longer ride, you'll need to do trail a couple of times. Great local trail for those who want to walk the dog.

South Shore Trail

Soon!

July, 2018 by arendt

Real construction (paving) is happening on the Phase 1 segment from (almost) MD-3 to (almost) I-97. It looks like this section will be fairly nice, though short. The road connection west to Odenton and the WB&A Trail via MD-175 has a decent shoulder. The connection southeast to Annapolis also has a shoulder, but more traffic. From Bestgate Road to downtown Annapolis the route is tricky. The fully completed trail, whenever that happens, should be great. (Expectation of *** for Phase 1).

Industrial Track Greenway Trail

definite progress

July, 2018 by kjnerz

Was on the trail today with my wife for first time since tunnels have been opened. Great connection to go uninterrupted from Christiana River to old colonial New Castle. The lighting in the tunnels was not on and even in the daytime they are dark, so use caution, however it is a big improvement now that the two segments of the trail are connected.
We wanted to ride to the Christiana, but were not able to do so because of crews paving the last half mile of trail. We are grateful for their efforts and to see the trail progress "live." According to an engineer on the site, the bridge and connection to other side and downtown Wilmington should be completed in 6 weeks! Very exciting! Once completed you will be able to start at the northern end of the Greenway north of Wilmington, cut through downtown, hop on the trail on the Christiana riverfront, cross over the river and finish in New Castle. Can't wait!

Northwest Lancaster County River Trail

Northwest Lancaster County Trail

July, 2018 by tom.cathi25

The portion from Falmouth to Bainbridge is not currently bike friendly. i'm told it will be soon, but there's no evidence yet of work to be done. It is dirt, rutted and washed out dirt and heavy gravel. It's a hiking path. On the contrary the 11.7 mile ride from Columbia to Bainbridge is great. It's asphalt 99% of the way; the other 1% near Marietta is RR right of way you can get around. There are narrow windy sections with close vegetation but overall it's a great ride. Plan to stop in Marietta for food. We rode on a Sunday afternoon. The trail's crowded with all types, but it's not really bad. Not recommended for class A "club" types.

Industrial Track Greenway Trail

OK

July, 2018 by sfarring_tl

Ran the trail from the parking area off of Boulden Blvd to the Christina river bridge. The trail is fully open and paved all the way to the river. However, the lights in the tunnels under the highway weren't working which was a little disconcerting. The Christina river bridge appears to be "kind of open" with an open gate but construction equipment still around some work still to be completed. Beyond the Christina river I was told that the trail continues for another half mile or so before being fully blocked by construction. Apparently at some future date it'll connect all the way to the Wilmington train station.

Overall, it wasn't the most scenic environment passing among other things - a prison, the Delaware state potters field, a psychiatric hospital, a couple of highways and lots of high tension lines. It was a reasonable option as I was staying at the Fairfield Inn nearby. Next time I stay in the area I'll try running the trail south of the parking area to the Delaware river.

Cross Island Trail

Great Ride

July, 2018 by m_kokonut

We caught a break from the heat wave and had beautiful weather. Started from Terrapin Nature Park and caught the Cross Island Trail and took it all the way over to Kent Narrows. Had lunch at the Jetty. The best part is that we were able to bring our puppy in the pet trailer and the Jetty was pet friendly with outdoor dining. Such an amazing day. Was a bit tougher on the return but only because we have not been out riding this season. The trail is relatively flat and mostly shaded. We spent some time on the beach back at Terrapin Nature Park to recover before heading over to Queenstown for the outlets and then returning home. Great day trip!
