Trolley Line #9 Trail

Well maintained and interesting trail

September, 2023 by a.hansen800

The paved path is wide with slope gentle enough for manual wheelchair to navigate. We started at wheelchair-accessible entrance off Westchester Ave, turning back at Oella Ave bakery. Round trip was about 1-1/2 hours. On a hot weekday afternoon in August the path was cool (thanks to tall tree canopy) and quiet (a scattering of runners, bikers, stroller pushers). Love the sense of unspoiled nature and history this well-conceived trail provides.

Northwest Lancaster County River Trail

Go and ride this trail

September, 2023 by dan.duggan

My wife and I drove up from Maryland to ride this trail and it was worth it. We’ve done a lot of trails but this was one of our favorites. We started at the Columbia Crossing River Trail Center and completed the full 14 miles. Except for the first 1/4 mile or so at the start with some street crossings, the trail is extremely well marked and maintained. Mile markers and info signs along the entire route. Plenty of benches with shade trees. The trail had a few bumps from roots but not many. The views of the Susquehanna are fantastic and most of the rider is shaded.

Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail

Suggestion

September, 2023 by jemsnyder66

Nice trail but definitely take the time to plan the off-shoot into Mt Gretna. Grab a bite at The Porch Pantry and also bike through the aection of gingerbread style homes located behind the Mt Gretna Playhouse. You'll have a nice view of the lake as well.

Cumberland Valley Rail Trail

beautiful trail!

September, 2023 by barmont1107

New to this app, but walked this complete trail in late July from shippensburg to newville, it’s well maintained along with beautiful scenery along the way.

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

It could be a 5 star

September, 2023 by jdietz4361

We rode a 10 mile section of trail north of the Williamsport visitors center. Sunny day, high 60’s. It was the day after a 30 minute rain storm. Trees were in full bloom. Why 2 stars when it could be a 5? The trail needs a good layer of hard packed stone. Any rain will turn many spots into mud, as we encountered. The trail rides along the Potomac River. You could just about see otherwise the trail is under cover. To make it a 5, make sure the trail has dried out and the leaves have not bloomed or the have already dropped. It would sure be a 5.

Rock Creek Trail (MD)

First long bike trip

September, 2023 by sbfvptbdvq

We loved the challenge. New e-bike riders.

Capital Area Greenbelt

Overall, the ride was frustrating because of poor signage.

September, 2023 by kokomo36

Overall, the ride was frustrating because of poor trail signs. I wouldn’t do this ride again. Although we passed through several parks where the path was pleasant and well shaded, we also rode city streets and sidewalks. There were steep hills (8.5%) that will make the ride challenging. Initially, trail signs were pretty good but farther along several important directional sighs were missing or hidden. In my experience, this isn’t unusual for an urban trail. Thankfully, there was a payoff of riding north along the Susquehanna River for several miles.

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

Adventure awaits...

September, 2023 by kilroy55_tl

If you are a history buff, esp. of the civil war, this trail is a must, and I highly recommend making Antietam Battlefield part of your trail ride. The surface is bumpy in spots, but overall, a very enjoyable ride and something to be experienced, esp. seeing Washington DC magically appear at the end of a long journey from Cumberland, MD to DC. Favorite spots were the boardwalks bordering the Potomac River and Harper's Ferry, be sure to stop at HF see the surrounding start of the Shenandoah Valley and Harper's Ferry from the bridge connecting the trail to HF.

Stony Valley Railroad Grade

Never Again

September, 2023 by cd98pfshvj

Starting at the East/Lebanon end we walked to Rausch Creek and along the AT for a bit. Round trip was only about 8 miles and the only pleasant part was the AT. The trail is newly covered with large stones and the camber is extreme. The size of the rocks would make for an uncomfortable bike ride, too. We were both pretty miserable by the end. I gave it an extra star for the shade.

B&A Trail

Very pleasant ride

September, 2023 by shcavan_tl

Highly recommend this trail. It’s well kept, smooth service, partly sunny, partly shady.

Jones Falls Trail

Not a favorite

September, 2023 by shcavan_tl

This trail is poorly marked in numerous areas, not all areas are kept up, and there are many switchbacks. Just not a very enjoyable ride.
