Creekside Trail

Not what I expected

June, 2017 by elspair

I spent more time off the trail than on while passing though Dayton. Horrible detours down horrible roads with broken glass, tree limbs and rocks. Poorly marked detours. Not for road biking at all. Take three or four spare tubes if you do go....you WILL need them.

Ohio to Erie Trail

Ohio to Erie Trail

May, 2017 by debgreitzer

A friend and I rode this route in May 2017, from South to North. Signage is excellent in Cincinnati and as far as Columbus. Once we hit the waterfront in downtown Columbus signage was sparse, and we ended up missing the turn onto Neil Rd, which takes you to the area near the Arena, and instead rode several miles along the Scioto River trail before we realized our mistake.

Signage was also sparse (nonexistent) at the Cleveland end. We ended up following signs for the Towpath, which took us through a questionable part of town, and eventually reconnected with the end of the trail, off of Franklin. Signage even after we returned to the route was nonexistent all the way to the end at Edgewater Park.

I will say that the recent maps, issued in February 2017, are excellent and now include designations for bike shops, definitely a plus.

The route was for the most part fabulous riding. We were self-contained and did fairly short days, taking about 10 days to complete the route. We also did a spur up to Springboro, which was gorgeous horse country riding, and although on roads, fairly low traffic. We especially enjoyed riding around Millersburg and sharing the trail with buggies. All the trails were in very good shape, and even the crushed limestone (the Northernmost two days) was well maintained and relatively smooth to ride.

The State of Ohio definitely deserves kudos for what they’ve put together. It’s amazing to be able to ride across a state almost entirely on bike path. We came from California just to ride this route, and it was well worth it.

Little Miami Scenic Trail

Disappointing

May, 2017 by hile

We rode this trail because of all the 5 star reviews. Our experience was definitely different. The trail is flat, boring, and exceedingly overgrown, and, there are too few comfort stations. The only bright spots were the towns along the trail and some of the eating and drinking establishments in these towns. We will not return.

Great Miami River Trail

Tale of two trails

April, 2017 by jmk355

I rode only the northern end (Huber Heights to Piqua and back approx. 60 mi) and found it to be quite scenic and interesting ride. Surface generally in good shape and smooth. The southern portion of my trip, especially in Montgomery county was well signed and easy to follow where the trail diverts and how far to the next notable trailheads. The middle section (especially around Troy) was very poorly signed and more than once did I need to double back to find where the trail continued. The trail is marked every 1/4 mile, so in theory if you go on too far without the next mileage mark, you should wonder if you strayed, but that's not a reliable system. I particularly note the lack of signage at the Eldean covered bridge about the trail crossing the street and going behind a baseball diamond as an example. Signage picked up somewhat around Piqua.
The loop around Piqua made the perfect turning spot and provided many interesting sights throughout town.

Prairie Grass Trail

Green Acres

April, 2017 by jmk355

Rode it in its entirety today before too many trees have many leaves. Surface is in good/great shape, especially notable in Madison County (north). A cross wind was very noticeable both directions as there is very little to stop a breeze. Also very little to shade the trail and an early case of sunburned arms as a result. Few rest areas and water/bathroom stops --only in London, S. Charleston, Cedarville and Xenia, so be well stocked.

Great Miami River Trail

First sentence is wrong

April, 2017 by daytoncapri

No, the Great Miami River Trail DOES NOT run from Piqua all the way south to Fairfield.

It comes to a dead halt at Middletown, and then picks up again in Hamilton, going south. That's a major gap, with no clear, safe way to bridge it.

It's a fine trail. I've ridden it often. It's particularly pretty along the river from north of Dayton to south of Piqua.

Dearborn Trails (Aurora - Lawrenceburg - Greendale)

Nice Trail

April, 2017 by mlehoffie

This trail was a nice trail for the beginning of the season. I am a casual rider and it is fairly short and flat trail. Nice tunnels and bridges. One thing I don't like is that it is not marked very well and if you are riding along the flood wall towards Hollywood Casino the trail just dead ends although the map says you can go further. If you ride into Aurora, the path is not marked and you have to make your own path through the town once you cross the large metal bridge.

Cardinal Greenway

March, 2017 by kirk 1

I rode the trail from the Super 8 motel in Gas City which accommodated parking my vehicle there for the overnight. The road portion was OK but GPS is pretty much a requirement. I rode the trail on a fairly heavily laden touring bike to The Seldom Scene Meadow B&B. Leighanne was a great hostess and the place is very nice. The Cardinal is a very fast trail and was in great shape for early in the year. Lots of twigs on the trail but that is to be expected on a rail trail. There are places to reprovision water and snacks near the trail all the way. The only thing I didn't care for about about this ride were the many busy road crossings and the presence of busy highways nearly the length of the ride. Everything else about this trail is exceptional.

March 13, 2017: Good news for GMRT users. The I-75 renovation project in downtown Dayton is complete and the GMRT is no longer re-routed onto city streets. The original bike trail has been repaved and is open to riders.

PLUS, the two River Run Projects in downtown Dayton are nearly finished (Grand Opening of the River Runs scheduled for May 5th, 2017) The GMRT runs right past the two canoe/kayak river chutes next to RiverScape metro park.

Lebanon Countryside YMCA Trail

Great for a Workout

March, 2017 by mike.c.brothers

I wouldn't recommend taking someone who wants a casual ride here, but for an actual workout with varied terrain it is great. There is no truly flat mile, and the wind often is in your face going towards the bike trail (which is downhill). There are some road crossings but the number of cars are minimal...and its Lebanon, people are normally willing to let you through.

But yes, if you are out of shape, be willing to walk. I'm in decent fitness and I max out going 8 mph on the 150 foot 7-10% grade hill located at mile marker 2 (0 is at the loveland trail). There is also another 150 foot hill with 5-7% grade hill at mile marker 5.5.

So in short, if you want a workout, great trail. If you want to take your little kids or Grandma and Grandpa...I'd drive to the Little Miami.

Little Miami Scenic Trail

Best trail in US.

January, 2017 by scott leisz

My wife and I have ridden this entire trail many times in segments as well as connecting trails. All trails are paved. Trail follows Little Miami River, and is generally tree lined so can ride it year round. It is very pretty. So I will divide this into 3 sections south middle and north. SOUTH segment--Trail has been extended to about 3 miles south of the golf center where it ends roughly east across the river from Lunken airport. Stay at the Mairimont Best Western if doing south section. From the hotel Trail is 1 mile away down 50 west. You can ride to it or drive down and park at the new 50 West brew pub. South segment is busiest segment. Ride north by Milford to Loveland which is a very cool bike friendly town. Can eat at Julian's or Paxton's both on the trail in Loveland. Bike shop in Loveland too. But no place to stay in Loveland. North of Loveland is prettiest part of trail with very few road crossings. We go up to about Lebanon then go back south. MIDDLE segment--if doing middle section can Stay in Lebanon at Hardy's B & B or the Golden Lamb hotel. Lebanon is a very cool town too. You have to take the Lebanon trail 8 miles to connect to Little Miami trail. Lebanon trail has a BIG hill on the way back. Or drive to the Little Miami Trail and park at Lebanon trail head. If go south from there can go to Loveland. Going north go through Morrow then on to Oregonia. There can eat at Little River Bar-- a bikers bar but very cool. Continue north by Waynsville through Spring Valley to Xenia. Not much in Xenia. Waynsville is 1 mile off the trail but a cool town and can get something to eat there too. Middle segment is not heavily used. But very pretty. In Xenia can get the Ohio to Erie Trail to go on to Columbus. NORTH segment--Here can stay at Yellow Springs at Morgan House B&B or at a new hotel Mills Park Hotel. Several places to eat and drink in town. Yellow Springs is a Very quirky cool bike friendly college town. Trail here is new and wide. Not very busy either. Going south from Yellow Springs takes you to Xenia. Can go as far south as you want. Or pick up Ohio to Erie trail in Xenia towards Columbus. Can turn around at Cedarville another cool town. In Cederville can stay at Hearthstone Inn. Going north from Yellow Springs you go through Springfield an old town that has seen better days. A little sketchy through this town. Then can go north all the way to Urbana. Nothing in Springfield.
