T. J. Evans Panhandle Trail

T. J. Evans Panhandle Trail

August, 2017 by abharrell

The trail is not hard to find. However, the parking is a little confusing because you have to drive on the trail for about 100 feet passing the “No Motor Vehicles” sign. The Parking area is neglected and overgrown with weeds. My suggestion is parking on nearby Main Street and making the short ride to the trail head.

The trail itself is in decent shape. A drawback to this trail is that the tree canopy drops a lot of debris onto the trail. You will have to keep one eye on the ground to avoid some of the larger sticks and twigs. The trees do make a nice shaded trail if you are riding in the heat. Like many of the previous reviewers the entire trail is along a chain link fence and takes away from the natural scenery.

Blackhand Gorge Trail

Perfect for biking & hiking.

August, 2017 by kennkiser

Definitely worth the 1-hour I drove to reach this trail. It's 8.52 miles round-trip, so I rode it twice on a recumbent trike & enjoyed it just as much the 2nd round. Depending on your bike, you might opt to walk it across the damaged section, which is ~100-yards long. There are numerous trails not open to bikes, but the scenery they offer is amazing. All trails are mostly shaded. Dogs are allowed on the paved trail but must be on a leash. Most of the unpaved trails I saw posted signs forbidding bikes & dogs. More info may be available on the website.

Camp Chase Trail

Great trail

July, 2017 by michaelshepard1975

I am a new 43 year old rider on a Mountain Bike. I started this trip at Wilson Rd end, I rode to Columbus. This trail was amazing to be on, I encountered many pleasant riders and walkers. The trail did get confusing at I think it was Battelle park where I encountered Mt. Everest (LOL) was not expecting that hill but enjoyed the off-road ride through the woods. Over all I am planning on riding this trail again only starting in London next time. Over all I finished 22 miles and enjoyed it very much.

Heart of Ohio Trail

Wondering where it connects to Sunbury?

June, 2017 by purejoyriding

I had the joy of riding this trail out of Mt. Vernon last week. I started at the train depot, a marvelous trail head by the way, and rode the Kokosing Gap Trail to Danville and back. Of course, on my return i had the delicious pulled pork at the chuck wagon that is parked there in Mt. Vernon at the trail head. Then i rode the HOOT for the first time. What a wonderful time. Sadly the trail abruptly ended south of Centerburg with no indication of where one might go on the open roads to get the next section. Of a positive note also the Centerburg Church of God has a nice rest station canopy just off the trail, with sign on trail noting same, and a fridge filled with free bottled cold water and also a box to leave prayer requests. What a wonderful example of the ministry of Jesus. All in all a delightful day but i look forward to finding the connector so i can ride to Columbus from Mt. Vernon someday.

Ohio to Erie Trail

Ohio to Erie Trail

May, 2017 by debgreitzer

A friend and I rode this route in May 2017, from South to North. Signage is excellent in Cincinnati and as far as Columbus. Once we hit the waterfront in downtown Columbus signage was sparse, and we ended up missing the turn onto Neil Rd, which takes you to the area near the Arena, and instead rode several miles along the Scioto River trail before we realized our mistake.

Signage was also sparse (nonexistent) at the Cleveland end. We ended up following signs for the Towpath, which took us through a questionable part of town, and eventually reconnected with the end of the trail, off of Franklin. Signage even after we returned to the route was nonexistent all the way to the end at Edgewater Park.

I will say that the recent maps, issued in February 2017, are excellent and now include designations for bike shops, definitely a plus.

The route was for the most part fabulous riding. We were self-contained and did fairly short days, taking about 10 days to complete the route. We also did a spur up to Springboro, which was gorgeous horse country riding, and although on roads, fairly low traffic. We especially enjoyed riding around Millersburg and sharing the trail with buggies. All the trails were in very good shape, and even the crushed limestone (the Northernmost two days) was well maintained and relatively smooth to ride.

The State of Ohio definitely deserves kudos for what they’ve put together. It’s amazing to be able to ride across a state almost entirely on bike path. We came from California just to ride this route, and it was well worth it.

Alum Creek Greenway Trail

Excellent Addition for Central Ohio Greenway Trails

May, 2017 by pammcpat53

My husband and I enjoyed biking along this trail for the first time for Memorial Day today. This scenic, well marked trail was a pleasure to ride. We started in Bexley on Main Street and rode approximately 11 miles north to Westerville. Riding along the creek and in the woods provided lots of shade on a sunny day. All the bridges we rode over were awesome. We can't wait to go further north next time as we will start at the Easton soccer fields and venture further north.

Olentangy Trail

Great Ride

April, 2017 by prhelt

The trail could use a little better marking. I never missed a turn by much, but I did miss several as you could not always tell which way to go at a fork. Pretty level and we'll paved. I rode the north and south sections in one ride. I usually don't like to go on a road, but the short road section had no cars in it.

Hockhocking Adena Bikeway

Well worth riding

April, 2017 by bruceamiller@comcast.net

In April 2017 a friend and I rode the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway from west of Athens to Nelsonville (about 12 miles each way). The trail is paved and generally good (occasional bumps from roots). Route is shaded and follows the Hocking River with mile markers every half mile. Bluebells and trillium were putting on a show - thanks to the folks who planted them! At Nelsonville the trail peters out - would be nice to have directional sign to Fullbrook Cafe or other eateries. Bring hydration as nowhere to stop in between towns.

Rode it in its entirety today before too many trees have many leaves. Surface is in good/great shape, especially notable in Madison County (north). A cross wind was very noticeable both directions as there is very little to stop a breeze. Also very little to shade the trail and an early case of sunburned arms as a result. Few rest areas and water/bathroom stops --only in London, S. Charleston, Cedarville and Xenia, so be well stocked.

T. J. Evans Trail

needs maintenance.

This is a very straight trail with a deceiving incline heading north. The bad part is on a road bike it will beat you up. Lots of roots, potholes and grade variances
