Allegheny River Trail

Very Nice With a Few Bumps

June, 2022 by welleslobb

Rode Franklin to Emlenton (55 mi round trip) on a sunny day with no humidity. Loved river views, two long tunnels times two, wildlife sightings, low trail traffic, and Belmar Bridge that carries the Sandy Creek Trail over the Allegheny River and Trail. Disliked bumpy trail surface south of Kennerdell Tunnel. Really disliked .75-mile rough gravel road detour at Sunny Slope resort community.

Stavich Bicycle Trail

Nice trail on the PA side

June, 2022 by bethredeker1

Rode the trail today and most of it was great. It is mostly sunny so if it’s hot outside make sure your water bottle is full. Started at the head on the PA side but only made it a couple of miles into OH and decided to turn around. The trail definitely needs attention and if your on a road bike you have to take it slow to be safe ( and keep your teeth ). Overall I’m giving it a 3 because of the Ohio side. My advice would be to turn around at the first Ohio town. Beautiful though nice gradual incline’s and decent’s and decent scenery.

Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail

Deb and Norm Rode Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, 4 June 2022

June, 2022 by peasenh

We rode the trail from South end-point to the Northernmost end-point on a street bike and a three wheeled recumbent. The trail is really flat with very few elevation changes but it does have a few spots where the tree roots have raised the tar surface but overall condition we'd rate the trail is a 4.5 out of 5. SHADED!!! Very few spots where you'll need protection from sun exposure because of the huge tree canopy over 98% of the trail. Very remote trail with very little chance for assistance if needed, but there are three restrooms (start, end and middle). Watch out for the squirrels!!; that's why we wear helmets, 4 close-calls!!

Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail

Great and relaxing trail

This trail is a true hidden gem. Of course always be mindful of the road crossings. Don't let that scare you away. Definitely feels like a ride through a state park.

Panhandle Trail

Be careful - little small tacks on trail (WV into PA) - flat tires

June, 2022 by crableg300

Last year we went to a pancake breakfast in McDonald PA and had a great time. We did a lot of the Panhandle trail and rode over the trestle bridge on the Montour as well. We decided to come back and do the rest of the Panhandle from the WV starting point (Weirton - Harmon Creek) to the town of Burgettstown. We encountered a few bike riders outside the WV part (Washington County) that had flat tires - they showed us these very small tacks. They are very hard to see and you would not be able to see them riding. On the way back, I had a flat too and my brother this morning found one in his tire as well. We have reported this to the Panhandle people and the WV trail folks too. Please be careful - The trail is nice and we got some good pull pork sandwiches at Walden's in Burgettstown. The pancake breakfast was awesome again too - we may make this a tradition each year

Started at champion heights and rode to rock creek. Few other riders, lots of shade and wildlife. We saw a mink and lots of warblers. At Rock Creek you have to ride on the highway. We saw no signage of the way. The trail is paved and in good shape.

Portage Hike and Bike Trail

2022 update

Rode from eastern end of the trail, Ravenna to Kent. 7.5 miles, then no signage in Kent. You had to ride on busy street if you where to connect. No clear indication of where to go , no bike lanes. But North Waters brewery is just before the bridge in Kent across the railway tracks. Side trip to Towners park included a nice walk to a mound. Busy the day we rode because of fifth grade bike ride. Surface was paved and in good condition nice information signs along the route.

Allegheny River Trail

Did 23 miles on the trail today with my husband and son. Gorgeous trail and the river is so beautiful. Tunnels are very dark. Bring a bright flashlight. No bathrooms or places to stop to get supplies so be prepared but so so beautiful.

Hiked from Kidd's Mill trailhead 3.25 miles south to the beaver pond. Trail is very dry despite recent rains. Spring wildflowers are everywhere! Weeds not a problem yet. Be aware ticks are present especially if you stray into the brush. Several hikers and dogs on trail. Evidence of horses on Kidd's Mill section very unusual!
