Kokosing Gap Trail

Kokosing Gap Trail

August, 2017 by jmanuel_tl

This is one of the best trails I have biked in Ohio. No kidding. It's got so much variation and surprise the entire route is interesting. The high point was stopping at the Kenyon College garden at the Brown Family Environmental Center. It's located just off the trail after passing Gambier going toward Mt. Vernon from Danville. The flower garden is quite stunning and I highly recommend spending some time there. If the 26 or so miles round trip is not quite enough, you can link to a couple of other trails in Mt. Vernon. Definitely worth the drive from Cleveland.

T. J. Evans Panhandle Trail

The trail is not hard to find. However, the parking is a little confusing because you have to drive on the trail for about 100 feet passing the “No Motor Vehicles” sign. The Parking area is neglected and overgrown with weeds. My suggestion is parking on nearby Main Street and making the short ride to the trail head.

The trail itself is in decent shape. A drawback to this trail is that the tree canopy drops a lot of debris onto the trail. You will have to keep one eye on the ground to avoid some of the larger sticks and twigs. The trees do make a nice shaded trail if you are riding in the heat. Like many of the previous reviewers the entire trail is along a chain link fence and takes away from the natural scenery.

Richland B&O Trail

Been riding this Trail every weekend from start to finish. a very easy relaxing ride. Me and my wife ride later in the day and light up the trail as the sun goes down. Hardly any bumps or hills.

Blackhand Gorge Trail

Perfect for biking & hiking.

August, 2017 by kennkiser

Definitely worth the 1-hour I drove to reach this trail. It's 8.52 miles round-trip, so I rode it twice on a recumbent trike & enjoyed it just as much the 2nd round. Depending on your bike, you might opt to walk it across the damaged section, which is ~100-yards long. There are numerous trails not open to bikes, but the scenery they offer is amazing. All trails are mostly shaded. Dogs are allowed on the paved trail but must be on a leash. Most of the unpaved trails I saw posted signs forbidding bikes & dogs. More info may be available on the website.

Kokosing Gap Trail

Beautiful Trail but ...

July, 2017 by dpljmassaro

It was beautiful trail with plenty of trees, benches, deer but very few "friendly" people! It was funny because my husband and I thought it would be the opposite but, ... sorry, it wasn't! It was a beautiful ride from Danville to Gambier until the return ride and my son lost his phone. So, we went back to Gambier and he went towards Howard and he only found the battery and the back of his battery cover on the bunch that someone put there! (That was one friendly & thoughtful person!) :)

Besides from that; the ride was good! The train was really cool, the restrooms were very clean! And, this rest stop even had a little bicycle repair set up kit! It was really nice!

Loved the wooded areas! Crisp and cool!

Camp Chase Trail

Great trail

July, 2017 by michaelshepard1975

I am a new 43 year old rider on a Mountain Bike. I started this trip at Wilson Rd end, I rode to Columbus. This trail was amazing to be on, I encountered many pleasant riders and walkers. The trail did get confusing at I think it was Battelle park where I encountered Mt. Everest (LOL) was not expecting that hill but enjoyed the off-road ride through the woods. Over all I am planning on riding this trail again only starting in London next time. Over all I finished 22 miles and enjoyed it very much.

Heart of Ohio Trail

Wondering where it connects to Sunbury?

June, 2017 by purejoyriding

I had the joy of riding this trail out of Mt. Vernon last week. I started at the train depot, a marvelous trail head by the way, and rode the Kokosing Gap Trail to Danville and back. Of course, on my return i had the delicious pulled pork at the chuck wagon that is parked there in Mt. Vernon at the trail head. Then i rode the HOOT for the first time. What a wonderful time. Sadly the trail abruptly ended south of Centerburg with no indication of where one might go on the open roads to get the next section. Of a positive note also the Centerburg Church of God has a nice rest station canopy just off the trail, with sign on trail noting same, and a fridge filled with free bottled cold water and also a box to leave prayer requests. What a wonderful example of the ministry of Jesus. All in all a delightful day but i look forward to finding the connector so i can ride to Columbus from Mt. Vernon someday.

Marion Tallgrass Trail

Now 11.22 miles long and is a beautiful and well maintained trail

June, 2017 by rramey

Now 11.22 miles long and is a beautiful and well maintained trail. I have rode the trail 3 times this week and have seen plenty of wildlife and heard many types of bird singing along the trail. It is great to see all the new benches and new blacktopped trail. The local community has done a great job developing the trail. I can't wait to see the next section done all the way to the Hardin County line.

Muskingum Recreational Trail

Nice little trail

June, 2017 by jvalentine05

This was our first trip on this trail. We found signage in the town of Dresden to be confusing. We finally found parking and hopped on the trail. The trail is tree lined which keeps you out of the sun. It also left the trail littered with tree debris, including some small trees lying on the trail. The trail does not seem to be heavily used. We encountered only two other cyclists. You can glimpse the Muskingum river through the trees. It's quiet and serene. I would have appreciated restrooms at the end of the 4 mile ride, but there weren't any. Still, we will be returning to this nice little trail.
