Sylvania River Trail

This trail is a pleasure to walk. Calming scenery. The walk underneath Route 23 is rather neat. Can't wait to walk it in spring.

I road the trail the few miles of it NW out of Elmore and then back to just the other side of Lindsay. Nice flat trail and relaxing country / farm scenery.

North Coast Inland Trail (Sandusky and Ottawa Counties)

four wheel traffic

Twice now we have had to get off the trail for a tandom axle tank truck to drive down the trail from CO. RD. 74 to the Elmore golf course to pump out their ports johns and drive back down the trail to CO Rd 74. Not only is this dangerous I would think this would be damaging to the trail and in violation of the no motorized vehicle signs. How can this be stopped. This is a beautiful trail. I would like to see it stay that way.

hidden gem

And what a surprise! Smooth. Covered for long stretches. Elmore offers a fantastic trail-side bike shop - SpokeLife Cycles. Low traffic. Few cross stops. Park in Elmore. Ride east as far as you like. Return. Arrive back before 2:00? Get some quiche at the local diner - Christy’s Corner Cafe.

Richland B&O Trail

great ride

I enjoy this trail whenever I’m in the area. It’s well maintained. Scenic with lots of wildlife - watch out for chipmunks! If you don’t stop at Fast Eddie’s in downtown Belleville for a draft, you’re missing out! (They have excellent food too!)

Wabash Cannonball Trail

Pleasantly surprising

July, 2022 by jmk355

Parked at Keener Park, which has a lot of parking, restrooms and water. Rode east until turn on southern leg, went to Fulton-Lucas Rd (CR1) where the pavement ended. Turned north on CR1 for 4.5 mi and only had 4 cars pass me on a Saturday late morning. Turned west when rejoined the northern leg and rode thru pavement end, before trying to go further about a mile over coarsely crushed stone surface and grass.

Turned back and proceeded past Keener Park and past south fork to Wabash Cannonball Connector trail which winds past mall and over freeway to Fallen Timbers monument area. Down the hill to the trails in the Side Cut Metropark along the muddy Maumee River. Then back up to Keener Park- about 52 miles.

Although my plans had been to ride further west until the trail became too bumpy even on my hybrid, adventuring over to Fallen Timbers and the park more than made up for my disappointment. There is a lot of history and scenic things to see that I might have otherwise missed had I hit my distance goal (50) sooner.

Not a destination trail yet as the unpaved surface needs improvement, but certainly a great day trip and one I would repeat in the future.

Hidden Gem

Well groomed gravel. Very smooth. Well maintained. Deer. Birds. Chipmunks. Start at Waterville. Stay in Grand Rapids. Grab lunch at Knucklehead’s. Lots of tree cover. No road crossings. Lightly used. It’s our new NWO favorite trail. N.B. - Not for skinny tire bikes.
