Shenango Trail 1/18/2022

January, 2022 by joseph_torok

Beautiful snowy day on the Shenango Trail. Temperature was a balmy 32° after a frigid previous week. Sunshine made for a very comfortable but sweaty hike. Trail was covered in a 12+ inch snowfall from previous day/night. Lots of animal tracks but no evidence of human activity. Parking lots were unplowed and access was dificult.

Frigid hike-12°, on Shenango Trail from mile marker 4-New Hamburg to mile marker 7 near the pipeline crossing off River Road. Only two other adventurous hikers on the trail and 4 hunters in parking areas. Trail frozen and dry the entire length except for seepage from Beaver pond.

Trail Maintenance and Development

November, 2021 by joseph_torok

Several projects gave been recently completed and several are still in the planning stage. A new Puncheon walkway was installed 2.5 miles south of Kidd's Mill trailhead. An expansion of the older puncheon walkway is partially completed. Informational kiosks will be installed before the end of the year at Big Bend and New Hamburg through the efforts a local boy scout in fulfillment of his Eagle Scout project. A much needed bridge near Kidd's Mill trailhead will be installed early next year by a girl scout in completion for her culminating Gold Award.

Early November 2021 Ride

Lovely fall day with temps near 70. Biked from Orwell to Austinburg and back for a 30 mile round trip. Leaves were pretty much changed/fallen but as always, a fantastic ride on this trail!

Biked this trail at least once a week in the Fall to experience the fall foliage. Always a great ride though a beautiful State Park.

Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway

Good, enjoyable route, but signage could be better

October, 2021 by rxkn5jbwk5

I rode a complete round-trip on the bikeway (East 185th & Lakeshore to West 117th & Edgewater) for the first time after wanting to for quite some time. This took me about 3 hours saddle time. The route is well-planned enough, keeping close to the shore of Lake Erie. A mixture of road cycling and trail cycling is required, but bike lanes added on Lakeshore Blvd in recent years in Cleveland make this easier. Signage downtown is poor and the routing there is a bit awkward, but anything west of downtown is quite fun as long as you know to access the path next to the Shoreway beginning at W. 25th.

Enjoyable route, poorly signed at parts, but I expect the Bikeway will probably be improved in the future. Worth riding for the experience.

October ride

Chilly and breezy Fall day but the sun was out! Parked just off of Route 88 in Bristolville and rode down to South of Sunside and back then up to the Ashtabula/Trumbull county line. Round trip 30 miles. Leaves starting to change but not as much as they should be for this time of year.

Headwaters Trail

Not a 5 star trail

October, 2021 by davidmaggiehome

With all the beautiful trails nearby, this one should be last on your bike trails. Not much to see, most mile markers are missing. The park at the east end road is in poor condition. I recommended finding a better trail to ride.

Road trail with bafang mid drive motor and climbed hills like they were flat ground. Got a good workout by not using too much assist but the ride was pleasant.

Chardon connector is open-September 2021 Ride

September, 2021 by vicki1960

This trail is divided into 3 sections: Central, North and South. Central and South have been connected and now the 1.5 mile connector though Chardon to the North section is completed. You can ride 20 miles and remain on the trail the entire time. New trailhead on Park Avenue in Chardon has restrooms, parking and picnic area.
Parked at Headwaters Park and biked North including thru Chardon to where the trail ends at Girdled Road.
There is also a parking lot at the Big Creek Park spur.
Hilly section is the North section which follows Route 44.
Great ride from Headwaters to Girdled Road, 30 mile round trip.

ERNST BIKE TRAIL

September, 2021 by faithschleifer

Just finished this trail. My only advise, DO NOT start at the bailey trailhead. It is fine for a walking trail but definitely too rough for bikers. Otherwise this was a beautiful, easy ride. Start at krider road trailhead or bean's trailhead. Either way you go, will be an enjoyable, easy ride.
