Courtney Campbell Trail

Wonderful views the whole trail

March, 2021 by sandymo

Don’t miss this one. The views are amazing of the water and birds. It can be windy but you’ll fly going the opposite way. We rode from Clearwater Beach and used connecting trails to ride this one. Even if you just ride end to end and back, it’ll be a great ride. The little rises and not steep at all so don’t be worried at all.

Ream Wilson Clearwater Trail

A piece of the puzzle

March, 2021 by sandymo

Used this trail on our ride from Clearwater Beach to Tampa and back. It’s so great several trails are connected to make such a great route. Highly recommend.

Druid Road Trail

Great connecting trail

March, 2021 by sandymo

Road from Clearwater Beach to Tampa and back today. This trail is a key piece. Everything was well signed and clear. That made for an enjoyable ride. There are some busy at grade crossing but the crossings at easy with push buttons and crosswalks.

Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail

Clearwater Beach to St Pete & return

March, 2021 by sandymo

Another great ride on the Pinellas Trail. I love that the detours are well marked. I also like the signs over the trail with the town names. If you make it to St Pete, don’t miss Dr BBQ. It’ll make the trip even better. There are several overpasses this direction so be prepared for a little shifting of gears. ¿ However, they are very short and you get the downhill, although the traffic engineers took the fun out with all the speed bumps.

Clearwater Memorial Causeway Trail

Great Trail to access Pinellas Trail

March, 2021 by sandymo

We loved staying in Clearwater Beach and using this trail to access the Pinellas Trail riding North one day and south the next. It’s pretty well signed if you watch closely. The only negative on the trail was that someone had cut the air hose on the air/tool station at the bottom of the bridge. Hopefully, it’s monitored and will get fixed soon. Great views from the top of the bridge!

Withlacoochee State Trail

Great trail!

March, 2021 by cathyham

Nicely maintained, smooth trail through the wilderness area. We started out on the Good neighbor trail and the road north from there on Withlacoochee. Did 35 miles RT Total. Lots of shade and some nice benches or picnic tables. Yes, plan on drinking your own water, so pack accordingly.

Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail

Clearwater Beach to Pinellas north end &return

February, 2021 by sandymo

Great ride today over the Causeway to the Pinellas Trail. Then took it north probably pretty close to the end, north Tarpon Springs. The detour scheduled to be open March 1 probably won’t open as it wasn’t near completion today but the ride around is easy and well signed. Came back on the trail and rode out to Honeymoon Island as well. The trail wasn’t super crowded. This a great trail and there are many great eateries along the way. Highly recommend Ed.

Flatwoods Park Trail

Fun ride, well maintained paved surface. Several points of interest along the water. Saw nesting bald eagles. Nice to ride away from the highway noise. Highly recommend this beautiful trail.

Chain of Lakes Trail

Basic Trail

February, 2021 by terence2

The paved trail is pretty flat with the exception of some bridges across busy streets. From the parking lot at the Chamber of Commerce on the Winter Haven side to the end of the trail at W. Haines Blvd in Lake Alfred is 5.1m out and 5.1 miles back. It's pretty basic, but I would like to add some suggestions to make the ride slightly more enjoyable.

1) Try and time your ride for the third Saturday of the month. There is a free water ski show on Lake Silver. The show time changes so check the website for the Cypress Gardens Ski team. I suggest that you do your ride first and hit the show on the way back into Winter Haven as the bike path goes right past the lake.

2) Instead of just dead heading out to where the trail ends in Lake Alfred, take a little detour off the path to the Mackay Gardens and Lakeside Preserve. The preserve is a better destination than just the abrupt end of the trail in downtown Lake Alfred. It's about a mile east of the trail.

3) There's not a lot of shade on the trail so stay hydrated and bring sunscreen. There is a "splash pad park" along the trail in downtown Winter Haven where you can cool off under the misters so DEFINITELY bring a change of clothes.

4) Enjoy Winter Haven at the end of your ride. Again, bring a change of clothes...and explore the downtown area. There are public restrooms for changing near the splash park for changing. They have nice restaurants, coffee shops, a brewery, antique shops for browsing, and live music on Saturdays (once Covid subsides) - It's a cool little area to walk around after your ride.

I think it's a great way to kill a Saturday afternoon if you're looking for a leisurely ride. A good portion of the trail is through industrial areas, which is to be expected as this was an old train track bed, but if you're looking for a nice 10 or so mile easy trail, this is a good option.
