Holmes County Trail

July 2019

July, 2019 by pcturner0277

This is a really wonderful trail. We rode it from Fredricksburg to the Bridge of Dreams and back to checkout the newest section. The trail between Millersburg to Killbuck has a couple of gaping potholes at the edge of the trail due to erosion underneath. They have been spray painted with orange but if you arent paying attention and hit one you will likely crash. Stay 18-24" away from the edge!

From Killbuck to Glemnont the route is on SR 520. A couple small rolling hills but an easy drive. It was chip and sealed recently so its not smooth asphalt but in good condition. Traffic was light but it was a Sunday.

The newest section from Glenmont to Gann was awesome. Its steady 2% grade uphill from Glenmont about 3.5 miles with short but steeper section as you get to the top of the ridge then downhill to Gann. And then the same in the opposite direction but the ridge is about 4 miles uphill from Gann. Very nice trail through the woods. Watch out for the bollards on the way down. One bollard is missing but the steel plate is still in the pavement. Dont hit that!. We made the little picnic area at the Bridge of Dreams our turnaround and lunch stop before riding back to Fredricksburg.

June 2019 Millersburg-Killbuck & Holmesville Sections

July, 2019 by vicki1960

Great ride on the section of the trail including Millersburg to Killbuck and Millersburg to Holmesville. Trail is very flat and wide. On a hot summer day the shady sections are welcoming. There are also open areas of the trail. Trail services include shops in Killbuck, just off the trail. Millersburg within feet of the trail. Also in Millersburg there are a few fast food restaurants steps away from the trail.

Our Go To Trail closest to home

July, 2019 by fisch724

A one and one half hour drive to Athens to ride this trail from our home in Huntington, WV is always well worth it. The majority of the trail is canopied and keeps the temps 10 - 15 degrees cooler than what is reported. Only the campus of Ohio University is entirely in the open and can be hot in mid summer days with a cloudless sky. A stop at The Eclipse Company Store, at mile marker 7.5, is a must for cold libations and fuel for the ride- before, during or after. We have found that starting at Nelsonville makes for a better and more enjoyable ride as this is the most shaded part of the ride and less headwinds, coming or going.

Nice Quiet Ride Through Nature

June, 2019 by bryan.pitts

We started on the Nelsonville end of the trail. Rather than trying to find a safe spot to park at the true end of the trail, we parked in a nice spacious lot near Route 691 and went from there.

The trail is nice and flat and very much tree-covered which makes all of the difference on a hot summer day. This trail really takes you away from the stresses of life and deep into nature with a nice variety of scenery from rock cliffs to swamps to woodlands to open fields.

A couple of tips, we did notice that it seems to be a constant (slight) downward grade from the Nelsonville end going toward Athens. We're very leisurely riders, so next time we'll probably start at the other end so that the second half of our ride is easier.

Also, don't miss out on stopping at the Eclipse Company Store right on the bike trail at the Jackson Drive crossing. It's a great place to stop, relax, and have a drink and/or bite to eat.

Great skating trail

May, 2019 by schn09

One of the best trails for inline skating in the Columbus area. The open farmland keeps the trail mostly free from leaves, sticks and other “hazards “. It has only a few crossroads.

Westerville B&W

A model network

April, 2019 by jmk355

Rode more sections of the Ohio to Erie Trail today and loved the options I found in Westerville. This network of trails is well marked and takes you to a wide variety of areas with very little road riding. I only missed one turn all day and found the I covered a lot of ground and got to see a large swath of the Westerville community. If only other suburban trail systems could be so well integrated.

Centerburg to Mt. Vernon

April, 2019 by cooltuck7

Did Centerburg to Mt. Vernon on this trail today. Beautiful day, beautiful trail with spring in full bloom ¿¿. There was a big tree that had fallen and was crossing the entire path not too for Centerburg so as long as you can carry your bike you can pass. I didn’t realize I was going downhill until the way back and it was definitely a long incline but doable. I stopped @ lunch for Barbs diner in Mt. Vernon for lunch. Not bad diner food, friendly staff. Plenty of parking in Centerburg and there is a trailhead about midway with parking as well.

Invest in Signs that Denote the Trail

March, 2019 by enialesirrah

All of the trails I have walked thus far has signs posted. This trail had none. My friend, my dog and I walked along a busy road that had dotted yellow lines that ended at a corner of shopping center in front of a pharmacy. We returned to Hanner Park to our car but not before we walked just up and down the street facing the park trying to find out where the trail is.

The State of Ohio put a chain link fence across trail and a criminal traspassing beyond this point sign. We went back to car and drove overto the east trail head and walked in 2.5 miles and turned around. bill n tina.
