My son and I just returned from riding the Pumpkinvine for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The word to best describe it would be bucolic.
The trails is great, the scenery is great (especially Krider's Garden in Mulberry), and it's nice to be among the Amish and learn more about their lifestyle.
Highly recommend!
This trail serves as bicycle friendly way to get you from Elkhart down to Goshen to connect to the Pumpkinvine trail. The route goes along a road and through the cemetery. It gets you from point to point. It is better than not having a trail if you want to get somewhere along here but would not travel out of my way to ride this trail.
Follows along river and through parks. Connects with other trails but would be nice if there was a way to extend over to Elkhart.
Nice trail. Could use some better signage by E. Madison to stay on trail route.
Some areas could use some resurfacing but overall good trail.
I was trying to connect from the other trails to the southwest to make it into Michigan City and thought this might be worth trying. I made a bad assumption that since it was in a National Park it must get maintained well. I was wrong and maybe next time I will find another way.
I think for this trail to be viable it will need to be elevated so the water drains off. At the moment it sits so low that it will continue to be a rough gravel stretch with a string of pot holes. But if you enjoy that sort of thing this might be something worth trying.
Some areas could use some resurfacing but overall good trail.
Nicely paved and shaded trail. Restrooms at the south end. Parking lots on either end. Rolling hills.
We parked at the SP going west, it’s downhill for a few miles. Much of the crushed stone is like pavement, a few sandy spots. Riding a tandem going 10 miles each way. A nice ride with some history and much shade. The last few miles coming back are up hill,a bit tough but a good trail. Frankie
Road the full trail, both ways, and our app tracked 22.5 miles. Paved trail is a little longer on east end than map shows. Asphalt is wearing and sinking in several spots on west half. Nothing to see on east end; it just dead-ends at a road. Portable toilets and trash cans would be a good addition. Hope they can extend this some day and add some amenities. Based on some previous reviews we were expecting more shade but we were disappointed - maybe 20% shaded between 11 and w:20
