Kokosing Gap Trail

Trail update

July, 2020 by fish_boat

Myself and another reviewer said the parking lot at Mount Vernon is closed. The other day we started at the other end in Danville and rode to Mount Vernon and the parking lot is now open. In my last review I forgot to say at the 9 mile mark if you start in Mount Vernon there is a great place to stop and relax with a small play ground for the kids. Great bike trail!

Darby Creek Trail

Beautiful trail but far too many “boulders “ and too much sun

July, 2020 by eshawger

Nice shaded trail for the first 1/2 mile or so through a beautiful forest at the south end of Battelle Darby Creek Trail. Then it was 95% sun to the north end and back. The crushed limestone trail wasn’t crushed so well at many points and one of those “pointy bits” likely gave me a flat front tire. Urgh. Fortunately it was a slow leak that I was able to pump back up a few times instead of walking back or breaking out the tube repair kit.

Kokosing Gap Trail

Some road construction

July, 2020 by bcyclgeezer

The trail itself is still beautiful and well maintained, but the State of Ohio is doing a very extensive bridge-building project which has cut off access to the parking lot in Mount Vernon. I suggest you park at the Mount Vernon railroad station (Columbus Avenue) and get on the trail there. You have a push-button to cross the busy street, and Kokosing is about two miles away, a pleasant ride through the town park. (Or you can go the other way on Heart of Ohio Trail - HOOT).

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

Current trail closing at paint Creek between Anderson and Frankfort

July, 2020 by info364

We love this trail! A nice mix of shady spots and sunny fields. The path is well paved. It’s pretty sparsely traveled except for the area near Chillicothe. Just today we were attempting to go between Anderson and Frankfort and found that the trail is closed for 1.5 miles, where the bridge begins over paint Creek.

Blackhand Gorge Trail

Easy Scenic Trail

June, 2020 by linzphilipv_tl

It is almost a straight trail. It is next to the river. It is covered by trees on both sides. The river can be seen in between. The trail can be done at any time of the day. There is not much change in elevation.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

2020 trail update

June, 2020 by chadley109_tl

Just rode this trail, June 26, 27. Got on the trail at mile 13, camped at lake hill, (5 stars) and rode toward Washington C.H. it’s in great shape and flat yes a few roots but nothing major. The bad news is the ice cream shop in Frankfort is closed. Very few people on the trail. It’s a great ride. Then the next day we rode toward Chillicothe, two trees over the trail should have been a sign. At 12 mile the trail is closed, you can get around that and continue on but in 1 1/2 miles the bridge is closed and you have to climb over or turn around. We saw lots of wildlife and birds.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

bridge out

June, 2020 by tandemspeaks

We planned to ride from Shaw Wetland parking lot to Frankfort but at mile 20 the bridge was out so we returned to parking lot. There was no warning prior to coming upon large plywood board blocking path. There was no easy way around - it looked like downed tree had destroyed part of bridge. It was eerily quiet for Saturday summer afternoon, we saw no bikers or walkers or traffic on roads we crossed. The bridge being out probably contributed to lack of bike traffic. The path was in decent shape with some bumpiness from tree roots. It did need trimmed, there was several areas where weeds narrowed path and low branches caused us to duck or ride single file. Overall, it was a nice very quiet ride.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

Trail closed

We started in Chillicothe. Just north of Mound 25 the trail was closed. Our plan was to go to Frankfurt and head back, about a 30 mile round trip. A bit disappointed...

Kokosing Gap Trail

Best Trail Ever

My favorite trail so far. Clearly marked trail heads and parking. Beautiful views of the Kokosing River. Long enough for a great workout. Highly recommend it.

Alum Creek Greenway Trail

Scenic Trail

June, 2020 by brianaalbert528

I rode from the very beginning of the trail in Westerville to the Easton soccer fields and back. The views on this trail cannot be beaten. Beautiful bridges and a mix of sunny and shady spots. There are plenty of parks to stop at along the way. I do feel that the trail is a bit narrower than some of the other trails I frequent, such as the Camp Chase Trail, Robert's Pass or Heritage Trail. This trail is one of the more crowded ones I have been on, and people do not always follow/know trail etiquette. Encountered a few people walking on the wrong side of the trail. On the soccer fields, there was a group of spectators standing on the trail to watch the game. At one point, I rang my bike bell to signal I was passing another cyclist, and on approach, he rode his bike into my path, almost causing me to fall off. He then blocked me from passing for about 30 seconds before he finally gave up. I also witnessed him intentionally swerve in front of a walker walking towards us. Still, a lovely trail and definitely a must-try - hopefully you don't run into the people that I did!

Simon Kenton Trail

Nice Trail

June, 2020 by brianaalbert528

Rode from Bellfontaine to about 2 miles West Liberty. Only encountered about 5 other people/groups of people. Lovely views - rural setting with lots of farmland. Saw some cool birds, groundhogs, rabbits and a lil toad. My only complaint is that the trail would be so much better if it were paved. This part of the trail is made with crushed stones. I have a hybrid bike and rode on the trail pretty easily, but the noise is quite awful and some of the little rocks got in my eyes (I recommend wearing sunglasses even if not sunny). There is also little place to rest or stop - I rode 9.5 miles one way and there was only one bench. I will ride again for the views, but probably won't be a regular for me until/unless they pave the trail.

Roberts Pass Trail

One of My Favorites

June, 2020 by brianaalbert528

I love this trail. It's not the most scenic trail out there, but still beautiful; lots of densely covered areas and wildlife. It's mostly flat and straight. At the end of the trail is the city of London, a cute little town with some local shops that are worth checking out. This is probably the least crowded trail I've been on - I rarely see walkers and maybe about 5-10 cyclists every time I have ridden the trail to London and back. Definitely recommend trying this one out.
