Great Miami River Trail

Great ride

November, 2025 by timfitz256

I started in Trenton and rode to Piqua, spent the night there and road back the next day.. my trip north.. it was good until I got to Dayton.. somehow I didn't quite get on the right trail, I run two apps on my phone so as I was confused, I used my GPS for help.. it took me through a neighbor hood I wouldn't travel in at night.. but after I while my GPS put me back on the trail.. sort of the same thing in Troy but not as bad.. the trails go be better marked.. I really started likeing the trail more once I got through Troy.. very beautiful are.. and it was a great ride.. 69.28 miles one way.. I was very tired and very sore at the end of my ride and slept very well that night LOL.. on the way back south.. I found the trail somewhat better marked and easier to follow especailly though Troy and Dayton..
got down to Franklin.. and seen 4 to 5 American Bald Eagals.. what an awesome sight.. sadly by the time I got my camera out, all but one had flown off.. I was disapointed.. I waited around, hoping they'd come back.. but the didn't.. not while I was there.. I had to leave, it would be getting dark on me sooner than I like..
All and all.. it was a great ride.. very tired and sore but it was worth it.. I will probably do this ride again maybe next year... but got a lot other trails to ride before coming back to this one.. :)

Great Miami River Trail

Piqua to Tipp City

October, 2025 by jatomei

Incredible find. Beautiful trail. We parked in Tipp City and started on mile 3 in the city park. Rode to Troy where trail splits but actually takes a left turn to historic downtown Troy (sign). Then in Troy trail splits again by river and to continue on to Pique you must stay on the right. Not under bridge but over it. There signs will show GMRT to continue on to Pique. (We follow trail going by Treasure Island. ). Trail ends at Lock 9 in Piqua. You are right downtown. Ate at Crooked Handle which is off trail.

Pretty Good

This mostly sunny trail offers an excellent round trip distance so you can get a good workout, but doesn't offer much in term of sightseeing.

Great Miami River Trail

Fairfield to Timberhill Metro Park

Loved this section of the trail. It's such a lovely ride with beautiful views of the canal, many bridges, winding paths through the trees and along the canal... Just a gorgeous and fun ride. We ebike and pedal mostly the first trip... Thet shows the trail stopping at Renschler Park, but you can ride to Timberhill Park. Stopped at Hamilton via the Marcus Park exit & had a Salmon Egg, roll appetizer & drink at Tanos Bistro. Definitely recommend. Delicious. They're was a festival going on, but we didn't feel like walking. Very nice part of Hamilton. If you want to make a day,, this Park is always busy & had a stage for live bands

I would not suggest parking at the Trenton Trailhead. There are Cracks all the way across the trail for the first 8 miles or so, which means constant bumps. Also, no shade at all for those first 8 miles out of Trenton.

Lower part of the trail.. great ride

road the lower part of the trail.. I was disappointed that the whole trail isn't connected.. but you have a good 10 miles (20 round trip) of the trail.. nice paved out trail that runs along the river.. there's a park along the way which was nice.. the trail wasn't over crowed.. I enjoyed this trail very much.. there is a hill near the end of the trail but wasn't too bad.. I ride an e-bike so it handled it pretty good..

Alum Creek Trail

nice but a bit difficult to navigate

July, 2025 by scott123180

Started on the north part of the trail going south. It switchbacks around a lot of major road infrastructure, but I didn’t have to cross a major road in any of the sections. I ended up getting a bit lost multiple times, but after about 3 miles in, it got a bit easier to navigate. It’s all paved and the part I road on was mostly good with a few sections of bumps. Definitely close to nature - i saw deer, rabbits, and a hawk catch another bird.

Slippery Elm Trail

Very Nice Trail

While coming across OH on our way back to PA from IN, we stopped at this trail. Had lunch in Bowling Green (OH). Parked at the Montessori school trailhead since school was not in session. Biked South to North Baltimore and back. It was a hot and sunny day. There isn't much shade coverage as this trail goes through mainly farmlands once out of Bowling Green. First few miles appears to be newer asphalt pavement but the further South, the more sealed cracks there are but it wasn't bumpy. Wood County Parks District does a great job maintaining this trail with trash cans (that they empty) and park benches along the way. Grass was cut too! North Baltimore end of the trail has parking and real flush toilet restrooms. One block from town for water/food if needed. There are quite a few road crossings but not a lot of traffic.

Love this trail from outside of Piqua near the lake and dam, to Troy. Was a paved trail with a few bridges and hills. Little challenging if you are not use to grades on trails. Few Porta potties along the way. Benches too.

Hellbranch Trail

2025 Review

The southern part of the trail that starts at the Spindler Road Parking Complex or Dog Park has plenty of parking. From Spindler North to Franks Park the trail is gravel, and not great for road bikes. A lot of locals run, walk, or ride causal bikes on this part of the trail. If there is a heavy rain sections will have puddles. There are a few water features along the route which can be active with ducks, geese, and other birds. Franks Park has a parking lot as well.

From Franks Park North, the trail is asphalt. Until you reach Hilliard Rome Road. This section is more of a wide sidewalk than a multi-use trail. Once you reach Colonial Park Condos and turn into the Hilliard Municipal Park, it becomes asphalt again. There is a cross walk with lights on Scioto Darby and drives tend to respect as there is a lot of traffic here. The trail ends at the Heritage Trail, which can take you to Old Hilliard or out towards Plain City Ohio. The Hilliard Municipal Park has plenty of parking and also has trails for running and casual trail riding.

I ride this trail 10-15 a year at minimum and have road it a few times in 2025 already and trail is in decent shape. Great for runners and casual riding. I don't recommend Road Bikes south of Franks Park.

There is a project going on at the Municipal Park that may extend the trail West and another project that may extend the trail further south.
