Portage Hike and Bike Trail

Connects with Freedom Trail

July, 2025 by vicki1960

We accessed this trail at Middlebury Road in Kent at the new trailhead. We also rode the Freedom Trail. Newly constructed shared parking lot on Middlebury Road for both trails. We took the new pedestrian bridge and switchbacks to connect the two trails. 1324 Middlebury Road GPS addr.
This trail is nicely paved and scenic.

Dam Race 5k

July, 2025 by vicki1960

Evening race held every July, the dam race 5k. Runners and walkers can go across the dam. Bugs and gnats weren't too bad that evening. There definitely is an issue in Sharpsville with gnats and bugs, even in town where the plaza is as well as far away as the schools. Seems North of the dam it's not as buggy. Volunteers did mow along the last 1/2 mile of the trail in South Pymatuning Twp.

Great new connection to Portage Hike & Bike Trail. We parked at the new trailhead on Middlebury and biked West to Lions Park and back. Most of the trail is shaded. We went the other direction out of the parking lot and took the newly installed pedestrian/bike bridge and used the switchbacks down to the Portage Hike & Bike trail into Kent. Great trail, the bridge is awesome!

Trail end improvements

July, 2025 by davidmaggiehome

The north end now connects to the Portage Bike & Hike trail. They added a bridge and a cascading trail. The south end is under construction and will eventually connect to the Ohio & Erie Trail in Akron, they did add an access trail to a road and you could connect the Ohio & Erie trail via this, need a good gps device, the existing trail is in good condition. homeless people

Rocky River Reservation All Purpose Trail

A gem of a trail from Royalton Rd to the Marina. I’d probably avoid during weekends or after work due to increased foot traffic. Smooth tarmac except for detour near Cedarpoint Rd bridge reconstruction but fun gravel.

Enjoying this nice new trail

July, 2025 by vicki1960

Getting out and enjoying this nice newly built paved trail. We parked on Maple at the police station and headed Northwest to Leon road. There isn't much shade, goes through a few small/short wooded areas but mostly farmlands. Came back into Andover and navigated through town to connect to the Southern section. There is no set route through Andover, it's not that big of a town! We connected to Mill Street at the Car Wash on Main Street. Will say we waited at least 5 minutes to get the opportunity to cross with traffic. Hopped back on that trail at Mill St. and continued Southeast to Marvin Road. That section travels through wetlands and again mostly farmlands. Trail services in Andover: Grocery Store, gas stations, pizza shops, sub shop and ice cream stand.

Trout Island Trail

A lot of mosquitoes and gnats.

We went for a quick family ride with grandkids last night. The trail had a large amount of tall grass on it that had mowed onto the path. The bugs were bad.

Great trail

Very nice trail, hilly and punchy. You will get a workout. Well maintained, recent fresh asphalt. Almost entirely in the shade on a hot June morning. Meets up with the hike and bike trail at the lower end.

Pyamunting Valley Greenway

It's open and it's awesome!

Pymatuning Valley Greenway Trail: Great little trail in Andover. We parked at the police station (they offer about 10 spots worth) and headed Northwest to Leon Road. Trail is flat and asphalt paved and pavement is very smooth since it's so new! This section is about 3.5 miles in length. Some wooded offering shade but most of it is through open farmlands. Parking at the Leon Road end for approx 20 cars. Great new pristine trail. The section that runs Southeast out of Andover is a little less than 2 miles in length. You can connect the two on your own navigating though the Village of Andover, there's a few block gap. This trail is maintained by Ashtabula Metroparks. It's been under development for a few years and happy that it's open and operational. While in the area head on over to PA and visit the Pymatuning Spillway Trail and feed the fish at the spillway. Trail services in Andover: Ice Cream, Food, Convenience Store, Pizza place and grocery store.

Beautiful Spring day for a ride. Got through that rough Winter and mostly rainy Spring now time to enjoy the trail. Parked at the North Bloomfield trailhead on Route 87. Headed south for about 10 miles and turned around then North to Orwell and back. Enjoyable trail and ride!

Week before Christmas walk on the trail. Been watching this trail develop and they've done a great job so far. A few finishing touches and the ribbon cutting will be in the Spring.
