Pymatuning State Park Spillway Trail

One mile is newly paved

September, 2021 by vicki1960

Brand new asphalt pavement, September 2021. They were finishing up the work the day we were there. Trail is gravel coming out of Linesville. At the spillway parking lot, the trail starts asphalt pavement and runs smooth to Fries Road. All in all, about one mile is asphalt paved.
Plans are in the future to pave more of the trail and even extend it.
In the meantime, enjoy the fresh new asphalt.
Great for a short bike ride, wheelchair accessible, roller blading, walking, jogging and strollers!

Another nice ride

September, 2021 by vicki1960

Labor Day 2021: Parked in North Bloomfield along Route 87. There is a small parking area there for about 10 cars. Biked down to Sunside Trailhead approx 11 miles South and back then up to Orwell and back for a 31 mile round trip.
Some leaves are beginning to change already and some dry dead leaves on the trail.
Most of the trail is shaded by trees but there are a few areas open farmlands.

Biking the Erie area

September, 2021 by sawbuck25

This trail is a beautiful loop around the peninsula state park, well shaded and plenty of water holes and bath facilities. For those that want to bike the Erie Pa area and have camping or rv equipment, I highly recommend Lampe campground in downtown Erie on the bayfront. There is a bike trail that connects the campground to the Bayfront connector trail. This trail will take you along the bayfront and has a designated bike path to connect you to the Karl Boyes trail around the penninsula. 34 miles round trip (that's stopping at some nice watering holes along the way.)

Good and Bad, Summer 2021

August, 2021 by vicki1960

The 3 miles paved portion of the trail out of Spartansburg is great! It goes 1.5 miles North of town and 1.5 miles South of town. Very good condition flat asphalt paved trail.
Traveling South from Spartansburg, 1.5 miles, you will cross over Route 89 and the trail goes for an additional 2 miles. it is dirt, and mud, and gravel. Very rough on a Hybrid. There were a few downed trees blocking the trail that look like they've been there a short while but able to go around. There is also a cement bridge to cross and it's in poor condition. Crumbling cement, and big cracks.
From what I have heard, Clear Lake Authority owns 15ish miles from Spartansburg to Hydetown and will someday, not any time soon, be a completed trail.
Summary of it all: Park in the quant little town of Spartansburg, bike North 1.5 miles to the end, and bike South 1.5 miles to the end of the paved section before crossing 89 to the gravel section.

Maintenance Done yesterday

August, 2021 by bfrazier766

Trail maintenance was done yesterday morning at the beaver pond. But the whole almost 9 miles of trail is finally wide open to foot traffic!! The trail is in great condition considering the flooding we had. Some bridges did get damaged but the small stream crossings are easy enough to cross by foot. You may get a wet toe. And remember, it is summer, you are in the woods, there are bugs. Now go take a hike and enjoy the trail!!

Summer 2021 Ride

August, 2021 by vicki1960

Biked from Corry PA to Clymer NY. A rough ride on a Hybrid but the beauty made it worthwhile. Trail is 5.8 miles in length and goes through a lot of wooded area which is peaceful and serene. A few sections of the trail literally go through cornfields, those are the grass sections.
Most of the trail is nothing more than 2 paths through the woods. I think it would be a great Mountain Bike experience or to hike or trail run. In the winter would be good for snow shoeing.
The only portions of the trail that are paved are a few hundred feet where the trail crosses the paved roads.
Trail surface is crushed stone, dirt, some sandy spots and grass.
Coming from Corry to Clymer you bike approx 5 miles to get to the New York border. There is no sign or anything!
We parked at the easiest lot to find once we got into town which is on North Center Street less than 1/10 of a mile from Tim Hortons. The North Center Street lot is mile 0 of the trail. The trail crosses over Sciota Street but there is no where to park. Another great place to park is on Hereford Road. No parking at the North end in Clymer NY.
This is a great trail if you would like a peaceful quite ride. I would not recommend on a road bike. Enjoy!

Maple Highlands Trail

A fantastic trail

August, 2021 by eislemike

Well paved, changing scenery, wildflowers. It was a great trail. A welcome break from the Ohio Erie Towpath that was almost unbearably bumpy on my recumbent.

Shenango Trail

Trail Status 8/10/2021

August, 2021 by joseph_torok

The trail is recovering from the torrential rains of July. Flooding has receded from all sections. The lower section from Big Bend to New Hamburg was the worst hit. Two bridges, numbers 2 and 6 were partially destroyed and will require extensive work or complete rebuilds. The streams at those two areas can be crossed with some effort. Mud at mile 1.1 from Big Bend is very thick and can swallow your boots/shoes if not securely tied. Bridge 1 is muddy and evidence of flooding is apparent. All other bridges are in good shape. The northern section from Kidd's Mill to New Hamburg is completely clear of fallen trees from recent high winds and is weeded and open to travel. The area near the Beaver Pond is scheduled to be cleared; but can be navigated. The bog at New Hamburg continues to be a challenge to cross. See the Shenango River Watchers Facebook page or website for workday anouncements.

Summer 2021 Ride

August, 2021 by vicki1960

Enjoyed a day at Presque Isle State Park. This park, along with all of the other 120 State Parks in the Commonwealth of PA are free. Presque Isle is located on a peninsula with Lake Erie on one side and the bay on the other side.
Flat paved trail goes throughout the park which also offers several beaches, hiking trails and picnic areas...and fishing and boating as well.
Along this trail you will pass 2 lighthouses. Most of the trail follows the main park road which the speed limit is 25 mph and strictly enforced. Some of the trail goes through wooded areas which remind you of being in a forest.
Since the trail is about as flat as they come, no need for an e-Bike! Manual pedal power is all you need.
At the entrance of the park there is a diner which has burgers. hot dogs, fries and ice cream. Next door to it there is a pizza shop. Camping is nearby also.
Seasonal bike rentals in the park. Rent a bike, surrey or even try rollerblades.
If you'd like to experience the bike trail, it would be best to go on a weekday. It's not very wide and can be extremely crowded on weekends. Enjoy!
