I liked that the trail followed the creek so it wasn't so straight. Having both parks and parking lots gives trail users quite a few options. I drove into the Schwartzkopf Park, even though the GPS in my vehicle told me to go a bit further south. It made me wonder if I was really at the southern endpoint. I finally found a sign for the trail, but it was small and located on a post by a trash can. Maybe a more prominent sign is in the dream phase.
Straight line from Friendship Park to end of trail (connecting through Creekside and run through a neighborhood (.3 miles)) about 4.5 miles. If you take the turn off and run around the other trails and the park it might be worth another 4 miles.
Well maintained and a great 50 miles down and back. Very well marked.Just be slow on the curves. You never know who will be on the other side.
10.6 miles? Maybe if you drive to each section. There are some nice parts, but very short, as the trail is broken up in to smaller sections.Creekside Gahanna is nice and the section by Hoover has a nice view.
A new section of this trail was created probably last summer/fall. We rode this today and the new section is probably 2-3 miles. it runs south of Meredith State Rd alongside US 36/Rt 3 crossing over 605 and stopping just about halfway between North Condit and Sunbury. Also, at the northern terminus it looked like some clearing was underway to connect it to the heart of ohio trail, but thats just a guess. Anyway, its real flat and mostly tree covered with a nice little ravine at one point. Good stuff
Very disconnected. Multiple small trails intersections and signs are not clear going north to south.
wonderful trip across America
Rode the segment from Mt Vernon to Gambier, and back. It's early in the season, so the foliage isn't out yet, but you can see where this would be a beautiful ride.
I rode this trail on March 9, 2021 after having parked at the Depot in Sunbury. The Sandel Legacy Trail started just NE of the depot, went behind the building and seamlessly connected to the Thomas W. Hopper Legacy Trail, also or previously called the Galena Brick Trail. Only because of the signs alongside the trail, did I know that I was on a different trail. Signs identify various trees are along the trail. There are also many extensions going into the subdivisions being built. It also went by the Galena Shale and Brick Factory. Once I got to the end of the trail where it met the road in Galena, I turned around, pedaled past the Depot and on some of the streets in Sunbury until I got on the Meredith State Road Trail. Then I turned around and went back to my car. The total distance on the three trails was 6 miles.
I had the chance to ride the whole NCIT from Genoa (newest part of trail) to Elyria. So many great restored train stops, bridges, and even railroad museum right on the trail. Active rail line next to trail for about 10 miles.
Most of trail is paved now but with some sections of loose gravel or even large ballast I would recommend at least a gravel or cross bike/tires.
This trail is amazing!! You can get more miles if it’s taken from Plumb road past Groveport.
I found this trail to be pleasant. The write up said it was 1.5 miles, but I continued following the asphalt trail and went 2.5 miles between the park in Loudonville and the entrance to Mohican State Park. Nice trail.
