Deep River Rail Trail

Wonderful setting

February, 2017 by jackritterskamp

We biked the main part of the trail and loved it. The access from the parking area down to the trail is steep in places and not suitable for narrow tires in the loose gravel area. The trail itself is hard-packed gravel and well maintained. There are benches and trash cans. We look forward to the extension.

Nice, but nothing fancy

February, 2017 by jackritterskamp

We parked at the city park as suggested, rode south to Main St then doubled back and along US 52 to Salisbury Ave (using the wide paved path made, bumpy by tree roots). After crossing the train tracks we explored and went north across Salisbury to the end of the greenway. This section is not on the trail map since it is very difficult (the gravel is loose so we parked and walked much of that section). Turning south from Salisbury is the best part of the ride as it's an old rail bed and is well paved. Near the middle of that leg is the Glenn St parking, accessed by a walking ramp.

Great for brisk walking!

December, 2016 by simbut1

Wide, smooth crushed gravel surface on level trail on old railroad bed. Great for brisk walking! Please do not pave this trail. We have many other paved trails in Marion, but no other resilient surface for 77 year old legs. Cudos to McDowell Trails Association and the City of Marion.

Thermal Belt Rail-Trail

Getting better each time!

December, 2016 by neverest

GREAT improvements to this trail, got to commend Rutherford Outdoor Coalition for their oversight & the Committee that helps guide the management for the future of the trail. New mile & 1/2 mile markers are great for those who want to keep up with their fitness goals. There are 4.5 miles of compacted gravel for hikers, runners, bikers & equestrians to be "in the country" and 3.5 miles (but more in the planning) of asphalt that access the more developed areas. Something for everyone and the BEST part is that its a project that the public can have input into & help make into their own!

Love the diverse topography of this trail! My lab and I love exploring along the creek and in the fall, the color is full of yellows, oranges, browns and some beautiful reds! Also a nice mix up of easy and moderate hiking.

Muddy Creek Greenway

Good Trail

Short, but very good trail. Only 3 miles from end to end, we get a six-mile ride with a flat, well-paved asphalt surface. Several good parking areas and easy access for bikes, walking or jogging. Nice peaceful and relaxing setting.

Reedy Creek Trail

Challenging 4.5 miles Loblolly

October, 2016 by cdesigns4u

The Loblolly trail from Reedy Creek parking lot to the Reedy Creek bridal trail and access road is approximately 2.5 miles. Taking the bridal trail to the Reedy Creek Lake then turning back to the parking lot and service road adds about another 2 miles... For seniors citizens, the length of this hike was doable, but very challenging. The graveled service road alongside the lake to the paved service road is uphill the entire way. Might be better to do this hike in reverse...could be more interesting.

Great Run

Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail

Awesome Trail

This trail was moderate in difficulty but the scenery was very nice. The best part was that there was not a lot of people here and the suspension bridge was an added bonus
