Paint Creek Recreation Trail

Current trail closing at paint Creek between Anderson and Frankfort

July, 2020 by info364

We love this trail! A nice mix of shady spots and sunny fields. The path is well paved. It’s pretty sparsely traveled except for the area near Chillicothe. Just today we were attempting to go between Anderson and Frankfort and found that the trail is closed for 1.5 miles, where the bridge begins over paint Creek.

2020 trail update

June, 2020 by chadley109_tl

Just rode this trail, June 26, 27. Got on the trail at mile 13, camped at lake hill, (5 stars) and rode toward Washington C.H. it’s in great shape and flat yes a few roots but nothing major. The bad news is the ice cream shop in Frankfort is closed. Very few people on the trail. It’s a great ride. Then the next day we rode toward Chillicothe, two trees over the trail should have been a sign. At 12 mile the trail is closed, you can get around that and continue on but in 1 1/2 miles the bridge is closed and you have to climb over or turn around. We saw lots of wildlife and birds.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

bridge out

June, 2020 by tandemspeaks

We planned to ride from Shaw Wetland parking lot to Frankfort but at mile 20 the bridge was out so we returned to parking lot. There was no warning prior to coming upon large plywood board blocking path. There was no easy way around - it looked like downed tree had destroyed part of bridge. It was eerily quiet for Saturday summer afternoon, we saw no bikers or walkers or traffic on roads we crossed. The bridge being out probably contributed to lack of bike traffic. The path was in decent shape with some bumpiness from tree roots. It did need trimmed, there was several areas where weeds narrowed path and low branches caused us to duck or ride single file. Overall, it was a nice very quiet ride.

North Bend Rail Trail

Could be a great ride...

June, 2020 by jtkilcoin

I biked the North Bend Railtrail this past week. My summary:

Happy Valley to Petroleum: trail quite manageable, however some areas have gravel that is too large for a rail-trail, but not quite as large as comment below.

Cairo-Ellenboro: very nice, smooth

Westbound Wolf Summit- Ellenboro: first 16mi to Smithburg characterized by very soft surface with numerous large vehicle ruts in the trail—very little gravel-based portions. Would recommend for only the most hardy of bikers.

Smithburg- Pennsboro: smooth and in good condition

Pennsboro Tunnel (tunnel 8)– MM36: a total disaster—gravel the size of rail ballast. Whoever decided to cover the trail with ballast-sized gravel has never ridden a bike on such! Remainder to Ellenboro manageable.

Hockhocking-Aden’s Trail

June, 2020 by egable7

Great Ride! Flat ride. Very enjoyable. Started in Nelsonville at Rocky Boot. Lots of wildlife on this June day. Cool under the canopy. Hot in the sun. Fellow bikers friendly. And courteous. Will definitely return!

Pickaway Trail

nice trail for a short ride

June, 2020 by info364

My son and I rode our bikes on this trail and found it to be a fun, short morning ride. Some of the trail has shade, some passes through cornfields and it’s sunny. Some is gravel, other portions are grassy and a bit bumpy, but still passable on bike. We took the trail just past 104 where it became too grassy and itchy for our legs. We talked to a worker at the canal park who said they were taking bids for paving the trail from the parking lot to 104. That will make it much nicer for biking.

Wow

June, 2020 by rwest1

This trail was a real treat! We started at the east end trailhead and at first I wasn’t impressed. The commercial area only lasted for a few miles. Next up was Ohio U which was beautiful. This area wasn’t shaded so bring plenty of water. After passing the school, we entered a gorgeous section with a tree canopy. The birds were very active and vocal. Nelsonville was an interesting old town. We rode the gravel bikes, but could have easily ridden road bikes. The trail was in great shape.

Zane's Landing Trail

We ride it three days a week, but it needs some love!

June, 2020 by rekcur

The ZL Trail is 5.6 miles if you go to the end and back, so we usually ride it twice. It's pretty bumpy from tree roots, and it REALLY needs to be resurfaced. We've been riding on it 20 + years now, and though it's very pretty and shaded in places, it needs some work on its asphalt base. Regarding the fencing--we were there when a company replaced part of the fencing with entrances to the path from the sides.

Ohio Canal Greenway

nice trail- lots of ticks

May, 2020 by pekejane1

Nice, flat grass covered path. We parked at Canal Park ( porta potty and picnic area) then headed south. Walked the 1.9 miles to the covered bridge then headed back. We had our dog with us and are finding a lot of ticks on her and the kids. Really enjoyed- just check yourself after the trail.

Athens-Belpre Rail Trail

Ok trail

March, 2020 by rewhited

The trail is straight and a little boring but would be great for horse back riding. It’s roomy with a mix between grass and gravel. We only went on a small portion of it that ran along the highway so other portions of the trail could be more interesting.

Gallia County Hike & Bike Trail

The trail through the woods

January, 2020 by stalkerz00

From Haskins park towards Walmart could use a bench or something but otherwise a very nice trail. Small tributary nearby and several side trails into the woods by pple and animals. See a lot of birds and deer on the main path itself. A few walnut trees right along the trail. I see several people traveling on it every time I'm there.
